Multi Monitor Set-up or One Ultrawide monitor? Which one is better? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 09:56 AM PDT Just what the title says. I want to increase my desktop workspace, I do programming and a little bit of photoshop and video editing with premiere pro. Should I buy a dual/triple monitor setup or just one ultrawide monitor? What do you guys suggest? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Jul 2021 12:44 PM PDT So last night I accidentally spilled some soda inside my pc I immediately unplugged it and tipped it upside down. A good amount of soda came out, later that night I tried turning it back on but it made a weird noise so I unplugged it for the night. This morning I turned my pc on and it game me this error code saying I need to replace my hard drive. I restarted my pc and it's now working fine, should I be concerned? [link] [comments] |
Transitioning my Prebuilt to a New Case Posted: 18 Jul 2021 12:58 PM PDT My apologies for the lengthy post that will follow - I just want to ensure that I include as much detail as possible. Roughly 2 years ago I purchased a Predator PO3-600 prebuilt with a 1660TI and a i5-9400F. I've been happy with the GPU but I find the CPU often runs hot and the case / layout of the case is just terrible. I purchased a new psu and cpu cooler and in order to instal them it looks like it's going to be a ton of work (just because of the space in the case). I want to transition my prebuilt into a new case and I believe I'll need a new mobo. The goal with this transition is to have the unit as future proofed as possible so that someday I can just drop a 3060-3070 into it. I haven't been too happy with the performance on the i5-9400f either, would it make sense to buy a new mobo that fits the i5-9400f or should I buy a completely new cpu and mobo in order to future proof the build? I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestion on what to do with the mobo / cpu or if they have any suggestions on a new one that I should get? This will be the first time that I "build" a pc, is there anything I should be aware of? Will there be any compatibility issues? If I change out my mobo and cpu will I lose any data that I have or windows? I'm not too concerned about budget I just want something that I can future proof and put a new gpu into when the prices drop. [link] [comments] |
I can't do 144hz even thoa my monitor support that help? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 12:31 AM PDT So I have a dell 2716dg and a 1650 oc gpu and I run my monitor on 2560 1440 and my monitor does 144hz but when I try to change it to 144hz it doesn't pop up only 60hz so is that because I have a low gpu or something else? Update: Thank you everyone for your help I got everything working. I'm completely new to PC so I really don't know a lot and I specially didn't know about the display port cable thing so I'm glad I know that now. Reason why I posted here is because I found out on Google that my uncle monitor that he left did do 144hz and I was trying to figure out how and why it wouldn't give me 144hz. Sadly I went and had already spend money on a new 4k HDMI cable but to come and find out from you guys that the display port cable I think that what it is called help you bring out your full hz. It wasn't working at first I thought the cable was no good because it hasn't been use ever since 2019, but then you guys told me to restart my PC. Then plug in the display port cable and it should work well it did and now I get 144hz. Thank you again everyone for your help 😊 [link] [comments] |
Put my PC on hibernate, returned later and it won't turn on Posted: 18 Jul 2021 11:23 AM PDT Hi everyone I was on my first build PC like normal a few hours ago, with no issues over the last 11 months since I built it. I went out for 2 hours today and put the computer on hibernate like usual. I come back and try to turn it on... nothing happens. When my computer is off or hibernating but connected to power, the built in power button on my motherboard usually stays lit with red, but not a single light is on anywhere on the computer. Am I right in that this is possibly a PSU failure? Here's what I've tried so far, all in relation to the PSU:
Here's my parts if this is info required: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/hwyikl/first_build_complete_ryzen_3800x_geforce_2070/ Nothing has worked in getting the PC back on with the above steps I've taken. I'd appreciate this amazing community's assistance once again! This is the first problem I've come across as a first time PC builder so apologies if there is anything obvious I've missed. Thanks for any help or advice in advance. Edit: I've just paperclip tested my PSU and the fans spin indicating it's working. What could be the problem if not the PSU? [link] [comments] |
What to do about memory test error? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 12:51 PM PDT Built my own PC about 3 years ago. i7-8700k, 1080ti, 16gb RAM G-Skill. I've been noticing that my computer gets the BSOD once or twice a week for a few months now, with a memory management error. It hasn't happened during a critical event yet, but I decided to run a Windows Memory Diagnostic test. Upon finishing the test and restarting the computer, I get notified that there is an error and to contact my computer manufacturer. Is the best move right now to contact G-skill, or am I misunderstanding the error? Any suggestions would be appreciated. When I went into the Event Viewer to get the MemoryDiagnostics-Results, here's what it says:

Posted: 18 Jul 2021 12:30 PM PDT So I recently got a PC from a friend and decided to test some games on it. CPU: i5-9400f GPU: GTX 1650 RAM: 16 GBs With this alone, I was expecting it to at least hit 60 fps or more on overwatch but I can barely hit 25 fps. [link] [comments] |
Got my hands on an RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra... need help upgrading the other parts of my current rig Posted: 18 Jul 2021 12:18 PM PDT Was able to snag an RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra, and I could use some help figuring our what to upgrade next. Here is my PC Part Picker with the new 3080 and also the new power supply that I just ordered (neither of which have actually been installed yet, so idk if they will even fit my case): I am pretty ignorant when it comes to building a PC (my buddy built this current one for me), so any help would be appreciated. I'd probably be willing to be spend up to $400, but cheaper is better as always. [link] [comments] |
How do I migrate windows to another drive? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 12:00 PM PDT I tried to use AOMEI Backupper to migrate windows by cloning it to another drive. But it requires an expensive licence to clone GPT drives. Are there any alternatives or other ways of migrating windows that are free? [link] [comments] |
Rate My Setup and Suggest Improvements Posted: 18 Jul 2021 10:24 AM PDT This is my first time trying to build a PC and I wanted to come to this community of experts to get your opinion on what your thoughts are on my build, what challenges and tips you might recommend once I actually put it together (I have some of the parts, some are in the mail) and also any recommendations for anything else I can purchase to improve the overall experience. I want this PC primarily for productivity/work use, streaming netflix and sports, some light gaming, and I also want to passively try mining cryptocurrency and may hope to expand with another GPU in the future to increase the amount of profitability I can generate from this build. This is what I have so far: Motherboard - ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-Plus Wifi microATX GPU - NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3060 CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 3600X 6-Core 12 Thread 3.8 Ghz PSU - Corsair RM650 650W 80 Plus Gold Full Modular PSU Memory - 8GB G.SKILL Aegis 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM Storage - Kingston A2000 1TB SSD Case - still to be purchased (any recommendations?) CPU Cooling - still to be purchased, I'm looking for an affordable liquid cooling unit. All is compatible when I put it into pcpartpicker website. That's it! I also have a mechanical keyboard, mouse and monitor ready for the build. Do you think I a missing anything though and are there any small purchases I can make to improve the performance, longevity or overall efficiency of my PC? Considering I am a noob to all of this (only started doing some research about two weeks ago), any and all tips would be very appreciated. As for the build itself, I'm hoping to figure it out myself through putting in a solid day's work. Am I in over my head or should this be fine? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Jul 2021 01:59 PM PDT I am looking at upgrading my PC. Currently, I am just using the motherboard for my speaker, but I am getting nothing out of the sub woofer from my speakers. Do I need to get an independent sound card, or did I just waste my money with this set of speakers? It is the kind that has the independent box that is supposed to be the sub woofer and 2 satellite speakers. I think it is supposed to be a 2.1 set up. [link] [comments] |
Question on redeeming the COD on my mobo Posted: 18 Jul 2021 01:48 PM PDT I got the rog Maximus xi hero WiFi Blacks ops 4 edition mobo. It says it comes with black ops 4 and I was wondering how I claim it. Is it the little flash drive thing?? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
What kind of improvements can I expect to see? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 01:48 PM PDT My current PC is an i5-6600k on an Asus z170-pro motherboard, 16gb ram at 2400. My graphics card is a GTX 1060 6GB, and won't be initially upgraded. I've been researching and shopping around, and want to upgrade it with a Ryzen 5 5600x, msi b550 motherboard, and 16gb of 3600 ram. Again, with the same graphics card. Any thoughts on my choices? Will this make a noticeable difference in games like borderlands 3, call of duty, the Witcher, etc? I play at 1080p, not really looking to go any higher [link] [comments] |

Is it worth upgrading from i5 4590 to i7 4890k? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 01:34 PM PDT Hello, my cpu is bottlenecking my gpu rx 580 and I want to upgrade. Should I swap for the i7 or should I buy a different motherboard that supports better cpus? My goal is to spend the least and get good perfomance on apex legends, right now i get around 60 fps with dips. [link] [comments] |
Couple (stupid) questions about RAM Posted: 18 Jul 2021 01:01 PM PDT

Posted: 18 Jul 2021 12:41 PM PDT So I was building my PC and I forgot to install my Wifi antenna. I only installed it when I reached the part where I had to set up windows. When I did, nothing showed up. What should I do? (Using NZXT N7 Z590 motherboard and provided antenna) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Jul 2021 12:39 PM PDT Hello I am wondering if I could push my 400 watt power supply to run a gtx 1070? [link] [comments] |
How can I get more gpu headers from motherboard Posted: 18 Jul 2021 08:42 AM PDT Hey All, Major novice here. Helping my son build his first gaming pc. I bought him the ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus (Wi-Fi), the Cooler Master H500 computer case, and two Corsair LL120's to mount on the top of the case. I have been able to find enough motherboard connection points to get the 2 corsair fans spinning, but I cannot for the life of me figure out if there are enough 4 pin RGB headers on the motherboard to get them to light up. I am using two headers for the two 200 mm case fans and one for the cpu fan. I am wondering if there is a way to buy a proper splitter for RGB headers from the motherboard? Thank you very much. RAM won't fit into the motherboard Posted: 18 Jul 2021 05:27 AM PDT I've been working on building my PC when I noticed that the RAM isn't going into the motherboard despite various websites saying it's compatible. I've pushed quite hard a few times already and hear a crisp kind of sound, making me feel like something is about to snap. Do I need to push even harder or should I just return the memory and get something else? Below, I've provided the motherboard, the RAM, and a picture: Motherboard: https://amzn.to/3kszr7p Image: https://imgur.com/a/nX7UsyE [link] [comments] |
Are there any major differences in optical drives? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 09:53 AM PDT I'd like to hear some music on CD with my computer and I found some specs I don't quite understand. Eg write buffer and CD-ROM 40x. Also is it possible to use a blu-ray drive for CDs? Is this worth the cost? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Jul 2021 12:01 PM PDT I have enough money to buy either one but idk which one to get. Ik the 3060 is better but it seems to always be out of stock. Should I wait for the 3060 to be available or should I just buy the 1660 super? Looking to play stuff like gta and cod at 1440 [link] [comments] |
First PC build, is it fully compatible? Posted: 18 Jul 2021 11:54 AM PDT I'm currently trying to build my first ever PC for 1440p 144Hz Gaming and this is what I've settled for so far. I want to start ordering parts within the next days, so I just need some final assurance that the build is fine. Please let me know, if you'd change anything and why. Are there any compatibility issues, especially regarding the dimensions? Budget is about 1300€ total (so that leaves about 700€ since I've already bought the GPU). Thanks for your time and help!
