What happened to PC cases with BIG side panel fans? Did they die with the popularity of tempered glass windows?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2021 05:17 PM PDT

I remember my first PC having a HUGE side panel fan, easily 24-30cm, taking up 80% of the side panel. When I built my new PC, I desperately looked for such a case, but the only ones available had a tiny 120mm. I find it impossible to build a PC thats both powerful and quiet, but I know it would be easy if only there were cases with biggo fans :(

How common are redundant power supplies on servers and network equipment?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2021 04:23 PM PDT

I'd assumed that almost every server would have redundant power supplies, but then I noticed that a lot of server chassis and prebuilt servers from manufacturers like Supermicro only have mounting spots for one flex ATX power supply in a lot of their models. Same for rack mount switches and routers, where a lot of them only have one power supply.

Does this mean that for a lot of business server and networking installations, redundant power supplies aren't necessary? Are redundant PSUs actually only really required for massive data centers as opposed to individual office buildings?
