Missing pins on just bought Ryzen 5 3600

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 05:20 AM PDT

    Troubleshooting Help:

Just bought an AMD 5 3600 from amazon, listed as new. Came in a obvously repackaged box. 2 centrals pins are missing. Link to the proc pic

My first instinct is to just send it back to amazon, not even trying to plug it in. This is not the normal appearance of this processor right ? Plus at least 5-6 pins were bent. I don't think that's normal, or is it ?

Edit for more info : It was not from a seller, but indeed from Amazon. Customer services points to AMD moreover. For shipping and return, it was shipped from amazon.de ( germany) to France, which might cause some problem for the free returns. Also link to the box it came in : link Did the bad review things with the pics.

A Supercar PC That Refuses To Go Past 2nd Gear

    Posted: 28 Apr 2021 11:53 PM PDT

    Most important specs:

EVGA 3070, Asus ROG Strix Gaming z490 MB, 32gb of ram, intel i9 10900k

I have the computer running, I can play games, I can stream, but it just doesn't feel right. Here's the prime example, the current problem I'm facing. I'm trying to play on an RP server of GTA5. I have never played the game before, so all my knowledge was fresh. When I log in, I'm getting 15fps (point of reference, my friend who introduced me is getting 90fps on a "worse" rig, I don't know his specs) I figure I just need to optimize some settings. I google that, optimize, and get a whopping 17fps average.

Yes, I have looked up all my drivers, all are up to date. My MB is up to date as well, I literally cannot find any reason why GTA5, and most my other games too, won't perform to the level of previous hardware. At this point, my 1060 laptop is running these games better than my new "beast". Nioh 2, run an average of 55fps with frequent drops to under 30. FF14, never higher than 45, and those are just a few examples. I am at a loss at what to do. I had an expert help me build it, I ran into no problems with booting it up when the build was finished. It's been a week now, and I have not found a solution, so I am asking for ANY insight into what might be my problem. I just wanna play my games lmao, thats the whole reason I built this pc the way I did.

I really hope that my lack of building experience is the factor here. Maybe just some setting I've missed, obscure driver, or something. Thanks.

Edit 1: here are the userbenchmark results, seems like I'm way underperforming.

    https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/42539644

i've also added the second power supply cable to my card, since i had an extra, why not use it?

This might be a dumb question but hoe can i change the colors of my fans? (Ezdiy)

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 09:56 AM PDT

I got a new pc for Christmas and I've been learning more about computers since then. But I'm not all caught up yet so if you could dumb down the explanation for me that would be nice. The fans i have are nice its just the controller only has a few colors and nothing i would actually want. I have and aorus motherboard. I tried downloading the software for aorus hardware but i can only change the light on my motherboard. Is there any software i can use to actually change the fan color?

    Is upgrading from i7 2600, 8gb 1066 ddr3 to I3 10100, 16gb 2666 worth $350?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 01:17 AM PDT

I have the i7, mobo and ram from an asus desktop from 2011 in a giant case from many years ago(C2D). Got all my fans and drives and whatnot and a 2060. I've been wanting to join you folks here in the future for a while. Problem is the wife knows my rig "works fine" and I have my 1650 laptop. So I'm looking to go cheap ass and maybe bump up the cpu once these weird times have passed.

    Anyway, I'm looking at: I3 10100 $130 Asrock B560 pro4 $125 Hyper X Fury something 16gb 2666 $70

Take all that, slap in my case, play some games, make some terrible metal music and YT videos no one watches. Hell I might even stream to an average of 1.4 viewers on twitch. Would I actually see any real benefit in doing this? I was gonna go 11400 and Z590 for upgrading to an OC cpu later. The wife scoffed at $600 in upgrades and I don't think I'm interested in OCing anymore anyway. I'm old and I'd rather play fort nite with my kid.

Thanks for any input. I've been out of touch for quite a while now.

Edit: you guys responded a WHOLE lot more Han I thought you would. I'm going through the thread as I can. Thanks for all the input!!!

Edit 2: Reading responses and Realized I forgot to mention I want a full atx mobo. I have a FireWire card I need for my outboard audio equipment. That's why I'm looking at $123 for the mobo.

    Are my components fried?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 06:42 AM PDT

Before I begin, please dont judge, I Already know im stupid.

So in one of my daily zoom meetings, I got bored and was fidgeting with a charging cable connected to my pc. In my mindlessness the type b end of the charging cable fell into a socket on the surge protector on my table. This tripped the breaker in my house and since then i have been unable to start my computer. There is no light, no fans spinning, no sound. What all components can i expect to be fried?

I tested the psu with the paper clip method and the psu fan is spinning and a molex fan connected is also spinning. Is it a foolproof method to check the psu?

How do I know if my motherboard supports my ram?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 06:30 AM PDT

Hello! I'm trying to build my first PC ever and I've been trying to learn about all the components that I need. Everything has been great, only that I encountered a question that has stumped me. When I looked at motherboard specs, it sometimes says things like:

    "Supports 1R 2933/ 2666/ 2133 MHz
1DPC 1R Max speed up to 5000+ MHz
1DPC 2R Max speed up to 4500+ MHz
2DPC 1R Max speed up to 4400+ MHz
2DPC 2R Max speed up to 4000+ MHz"

Firstly, I tried to search for videos and forums with similar questions... but I didn't understand. I really just wanna know how do I know which motherboard will support my VENGEANCE RGB PRO 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 DRAM 3600MHz C18 Memory Kit? I wouldn't want to buy RAM with more MHz than my future motherboard will support. I might even choose 64GB of Ram instead, but I wanna be sure that the motherboard supports it. I hope somebody can clear me out.

A Bad Time to Build a Good PC: A Challenge (budget approx. $7,000)

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 11:04 AM PDT

    Hello helpful people,

I understand now is probably the worst time to build a PC/ buy PC components. However, I come from a very isolated country and am visiting the U.S. for a couple of weeks in the coming month. I have wanted to upgrade my decade old gaming PC for many years now.

My budget is around $7,000 (but if monitor suggestions are included, approx $8,500). Since I will soon return back to my isolated home, I will not be able to upgrade much in the future. As such, I am hoping to have a rig which can accommodate the growth of VR (and current high-end VR gaming).

I also run a lot of in-house servers for my friends, so I do end up using a good portion of my ram running those servers while playing simultaneously.

I have no interest in streaming.

Please let me know what I need to know. If you think it is impossible to secure components right now, could someone please suggest a good place to buy high-end prebuilds?

    Thanks!

Window Shopping - How's it look so far?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 10:19 AM PDT

So I've been researching for about a week now, this is my first attempt at building a new PC. Made a previous post but it was to vague and didnt give enough information.

I'm totally open to suggestions and criticism. I don't plan to overclock and this will be pretty much be for gaming, potentially streaming, and some other minor software things.

Here's what I've come up with so far..

    • AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 3.8 GHz 12-Core Processor

    • NZXT Kraken X63 98.17 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

    • Asus ROG STRIX B550-A GAMING ATX AM4 Motherboard

    • G.Skill Trident Z RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory. (Would it be better to go with 4x 8g instead to fill the motherboard slots, or does that even matter)

    • Corsair RM (2019) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

    • Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case

I'll be taking the the GPU and SSD from my current pc and putting then in here.

    • EVGA Geforce GTX 1080 ti

      • SK Hynix Gold P32 NVME M.2

So right now I'm sitting about 1100-1350 for the total, my budget is capped at about 1500. Figured the last 100-150ish could be used for some good fans for the PC

Not sure on the fans, was maybe thinking a few.. - NZXT AER RGB 2 52.44 CFM 120 mm Fans?

What do you guys think so far, am I missing anything? Thanks for taking the time to read and discuss this with me

Psu only has 2 six pin and 1 four pin, Can I connect this to a 24 pin motherboard?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 01:29 PM PDT

I am trying to upgrade my HP pre built and am trying to reuse the psu. My new motherboard needs a 24 pin, and I was wondering if there is an adapter or a way I can rewire the cable for this to work.

Need advice building my first AMD PC! (AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960X)

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 10:50 AM PDT

EDIT: Yes, this build is way beyond overkill. Thank you, everyone!

Hi everyone! I am building my first AMD PC (and the second PC overall. I built my first one many years ago and haven't gotten around to a rebuild). I'm jumping from an Intel i5 to an AMD Ryzen 3960X (huge leap!). It was between this and the Intel i9 10980XE, but after many reviews, I settled on the AMD. So far I only have a case and before I buy anything else I wanted to get some second opinions on my build. What do you guys think? I'm in BC, so all prices are in CAD :). I understand that there's a shortage of some of these parts so I'm fine with buying it little by little and building it once everything arrives.

    CPU: AMD Ryzen 3960X ($1899)

MB: ASUS ROG STRIX TRX40-XE ($769)

CPU Cooling: Thermaltake Water 3.0 360 Liquid Cooling ($209.99)

    RAM: Corsair Vengence 32GB 3200MHz ($284.99)

    PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000W ($299.99)

GPU: ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 3090 ($2479)

I've also picked up a Thermaltake Pure 12 Radiator fans (x3) that I've mounted as top fans. They run at 3.6W and 4.8W. What do you guys think? Appreciate your help!

EDIT: In terms of storage, I'm going to continue using a 1TB SSD from my previous computer. My old SSD kicked the bucket so this one is only 5 months old.

Bad FPS on a high end computer

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 02:16 PM PDT

Hi, about 2 months ago I decided to build my very first PC with the help from my friends. My specs are a ryzen 5 3600, rtx 2060 6gb, 16gb of 3000mhz ddr4 ram, and a b450 gaming pro carbon max wifi motherboard.

My friends assured me that these specs should be able to run my vr headset that I own and most high end games. However, my vr wouldnt connect to this pc at all with a headset issue that i solved with a pcie usb expansion card. With this, I frequently need to restart my beat saber as after about 5 minutes it begins to lag very badly, and I run vrchat on 14 fps. As well as this, i only run apex legends at about 40, where as on my old pc with a worse gpu and cpu, i could run games perfectly fine both on desktop and vr.

I have tried so many things which after 2 months im forgetting what i have tried to list, but if you have anything at all to help me, i would massively appreciate it <3

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 09:39 AM PDT

as the title is saying I am thinking of building a pc for lighting design/ gaming/ video editing.

for gaming, I mostly play Minecraft, ksp, astroneer, and cities skylines.

for lighting design, I use capture(www.capture.se) and ma lighting ma2(https://www.malighting.com/product-archive/products/grandma2/) I also use avolites titan one(https://www.avolites.com/product/t1/) for smaller projects.

I do video editing in premiere pro(for school) and Blackmagic resolve(for my own stuff).

this is my first pc after +- 3 years on a laptop so I don't know if these are good specs so I could use some help with that.

Video glitching and system freezing right after reinstalling Windows and adding an SSD on a newly built and until-then-working-fine PC. I'm losing my sanity.

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 09:37 AM PDT

I built a PC last month, and now I'm losing my sanity.
    First, here is my setup:

    CPU: i7 10700F
    Motherboard: Asus Tuf Gaming B460M-Plus
    RAM: Crucial Ballistix 3000mhz 8GB CL15 x2
    GPU: Gigabyte Geforce 1050 TI
    PSU: Corsair VS600 600W
    SSD: Crucial BX500 480GB
    HD: Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM
    Case: T-Dagger G25B

I'm going to describe the situation in detail, so if you're in a hurry, there's a tl;dr session at the end.

    1 First build
I first built this PC last month, but with a Nvidia GT 420. It worked fine... for a couple hours. I moved it from the table to the floor, and it suddenly stopped working. It wouldn't boot, and the VGA light would stay on on the motherboard, hinting it was a GPU issue.
Next day, I grabbed another GPU from my friend, an AMD RX 560, but it also didn't work. I did some troubleshoting and, with the help of a friend and his components, was able to rule out RAMs, HD, SSD and PSU. I couldn't rule out the motherboard or CPU, since all my friends are on AMD now.

    2 CPU and Motherboard RMA
As I've had just bought these components, I've sent both CPU and motherboard back to the store, since I couldn't figure out which one was defective. A couple of weeks later, they contacted me back informing that only the motherboard was defective, and they would send me back a new motherboard (same model) and the CPU I sent them.

    3 Second build
A week later, the CPU and new motherboard finally arrive in my home. I rebuild the PC with them, outside of the case first, and guess what? Same issue. No video, VGA light on both GT 420 and RX 560. I even thought the store was scamming me, but the serial on the new motherboard was different (although it's a sticker).
I then went once again to my friend's house, to test the components. RAMs, PSU, HD, SSD, RX 560 all working fine on his PC, but the GT 420 wasn't, which was odd. We tested my motherboard with his PSU, RAM and his GPU (A GTX 1070), but no success: no video and VGA light on on the motherboard, again hinting at a GPU issue. However, that could not be the case, both video cards are working fine on his machine. We tried clearing cmos, removing the battery for a couple minutes, and nothing.
Until we decided, right after removing and reseating the motherboard battery once again, to put just one RAM stick on the first slot, and it worked! We could not make sense of it. We then tried the RX 560 again on my motherboard, and it did not work, even though it worked just fine on his computer.

    4 Curent state
Not sure of what's happening, I go back home, and the next day I grab's my friend's 1050 TI to see if would work. My PC suddenly boots normally, and Windows starts just fine, with the installation I had done on the HDD the first time I built it. I used it for a couple days, played some games on it, even plugged it on my 4K TV to game, no issues.
And then it got weirder. Two days later (yesterday) I decided to put my SSD in, and install Windows on it, since it was installed on my HDD. I format both disks, and reinstall Windows on the SSD. Installation went just fine, and when it was done, I went on to install the drivers (all downloaded from Asus and Nvidia).
But, after installing one of the chipset drivers, the screen blinked, and then started to glitch, like in this picture. After a couple of seconds, the PC froze and restarted. When it turned back on, I noticed the 1050 TI item on device manager had an exclamation mark on it, that can be seen here. The PC froze and restarted again and it will do that every time after a couple of minutes after turning it on.
I then proceeded to restart it, restore BIOS to default settings, clear CMOS, remove battery, disconnect and reconnect the GPU to the PCI-E slot, no success.
Running out of options, I reinstalled Windows again (a couple of times by now), and the problem will always return after either reinstalling a motherboard driver or the Nvidia driver. Whenever reinstalling a driver causes a change on the GPU (e.g. when the screen blinks) the issue returns.

I am out of ideas. I can't make sense of how installing an SSD or reinstalling Windows could suddenly cause my GPU/System to fail. I'm going crazy with all the weirdness happening since the first build, also afraid that something in the system might be damaging my components.
Any help with this situation will be greatly appreciated. And if you read all the way to the end, an even greater thank you.

    tl;dr
Newly built PC was working fine for 2 days, and then video glitches and system freezing started happening right after adding an SSD and reinstalling Windows. These problems seem to start after installing the video driver or a chipset driver. The drivers were downloaded directly com Asus and Nvidia. Also, the PC will not work with an AMD RX 560 GPU that is working just fine on my friend's computer. I can't make sense of what's going on.

Looking for a chair that is comfortable and that I can lounge in as well

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 12:23 PM PDT

I've done a good amount of searching and I still can't find a chair that fits the bill. What I'm looking for is a non-gaming chair that has a steep tilt range and can be locked in place. I use my chair for school, gaming, and watching movies and I like to lean my chair wayyy back when I watch movies. So far, the office chairs that get highly recommended (Herman Miller, Steelcase, etc) don't lean back very far. "Gaming" chairs are off the table since everything I've heard about them boils down to marketing and hype rather than good ergonomics and quality. Are there any suggestions that I should look into?

I picked up a GTX 1070 G1 on marketplace and it works great, tested it in my buddies PC. Plan on picking everything else up from a local computer store, just curious what you guys think!

First PC build... Anything that should be changed?

    PCPartPicker Part List

Hi there, I'm looking to build my first PC! I had some pointers from my friend who was familiar with PC building, but I also want to try to get an opinion from a wide range of people

I'm aiming for a £550 budget, and this PC will mainly be used for programming, video editing, audio editing and general work, but may also be used for some light gaming (Not memory or graphic intensive games).

With the recent inflation of graphics card prices, a friend has offered to lend me one of their old GPUs to use temporarily, so that part of the PC doesn't need to be accounted for for now!

    Type Item Price
    CPU AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (14nm) 3.2 GHz 6-Core Processor £129.99 @ Amazon UK
    Motherboard ASRock B450M PRO4 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard £67.97 @ Amazon UK
    Memory Crucial Ballistix 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory £74.36 @ Amazon UK

    Potentially fried my motherboard?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 12:48 PM PDT

So I just got my new Lilian Lancool 2 case a few months ago, and I've finally decided to switch everything from my old Phanteks P300 case to the newer one, but when I finished, I had the problem where my pc would on a reboot loop. It would turn off and on and I didn't know what was wrong with it. I then realized that my ram sticks were loose, and I fixed them and it then stayed on for about an hour. I reinstalled windows and everything was working fine. Then I checked my files and saw that my ssd wasn't showing up. So I opened up the case and my stupid self forgot that I'm not supposed to touch any of the metal parts on the motherboard while it's on. I reached towards my ssd thinking it might have also been loose but my finger slightly touched some other part, I'm guessing on the motherboard. and everything turned off immediately. I tried turning it back on but now it's on another reboot loop. So I'm guessing I fried my motherboard with static but I'm looking for opinions before I go spending another $100-200 on a new one.

Buying a used Gaming PC instead of building one ?(GTX 1080, i5-9600k)

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 07:15 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,
I've been wanting to build a new PC for some time now and I wanted to wait and put my first salary into it (started my job end of January 2021). But at that point the GPU market was already crazy.

I wanted to build a PC with a 3060TI and AMD Ryzen 5 3600x but it seems like the 3060TI is never going to be available around MSRP here (Europe).

I've been thinking about buying a used one with potentially older parts and maybe upgrading in a few years if the GPU situation becomes normal again.
I found one that's not increased to a crazy price (lots of desktop with 1050TI for 1200€+ on used markets) and what seems solid components :

    • GTX 1080
    • I5-9600k
    • Corsair Vengeance 16Go DDR4
    • 1Tb Crucial NVME
    • Gigabyte Z390 MOBO
    • 80+ 700Watts PSU

Is it worth it to buy a used computer now with parts already 2-3years old ?

Would like a new GPU, but not sure where to start. Any advice?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 12:30 PM PDT

    Hi,

I hope this is ok to ask here. It's kind of nebulous, so I'll try to focus my question.

Many moons ago (5 years ago?), I built my own PC. I really enjoyed it, but I had a lot of help from people around me. I can't reach out to them anymore, so I'm kind of on my own. I have an AMD Radeon R9 200 Series GPU (4 GB memory). I have disliked it since I bought it, but it was cost effective. I had to dial down the overclocking because otherwise, everything froze when I tried to run any games. I've also had to keep it on an older copy of the driver, because newer drivers cause massive screen tearing to the point that even moving the mouse becomes a problem. Which has meant that I have to keep automatic driver updates disabled, which means more and more games are saying "uh no, you can't play me cause your driver's out of date". Maybe it's a lemon, I dunno.

I'd like a new GPU that is not an AMD unit, but I'm not sure what a good option is. I'm an "average" gamer, which is to say I like to play modern games, but I don't mind if settings are reduced a bit. I have to balance cost against performance. I think my price range would be around $300 CAD.

Any advice on a non-AMD GPU in the ... uh ... "mid range"? There's so many options, I don't know where to start.

If the answer is "just get a new PC", I can live with that too. Means I know I have to save up.

    General spec: - i5-4690K CPU - 8 GB RAM - Asus Z97-A Motherboard

    Thanks!

If CRTs are supposedly better for gaming than LCDs then why is there nobody making new ones?

Wanting to upgrade my current pc

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 10:43 AM PDT

I have the Alienware x51 and i changed the gpu to an nvidia gtx 1060. I want to move into a new case, but Alienware won't let you do that easily. So my plan was to buy a bunch of new things which I need some help with since I'm new to pc building.

I'm looking for another motherboard the supplies everything you need like USB ports and HDMI, Ethernet and all that good stuff but I also need to it be compatible with DDR3 ram and must have at least 2 ram slots for a total of 16 gb. It also must be compatible with the gtx 1060 and an i7 4770 3.4 GHz. If you know a motherboard the fulfills these requirements please tell me.

With the motherboard and ram and cpu and gpu out of the way I just need a case of I'm not mistaken and a new PSU which I have one in mind. I'm new to pc building and the overall pc world so if there is anything I'm forgetting please let me know.

Curious about >12 core cpu buyers and their needs

    Posted: 29 Apr 2021 02:25 PM PDT

I have absolutely no idea what circumstances/workloads someone would get a 16 vs a 24 core cpu, or 24 vs 32. I can understand 64 cores- it's the most that's available and there's always a market for that.

So yeah, what would some instances be where someone might be weighing the pros and cons of one of these 'midrange' hedt chips?
