    Notes:

    • Patent application is for a machine-learning chiplet to be integrated into a package coupled with GPU cores and cache

    • The machine learning accelerator (MLA) chiplet will execute matrix multiplication operations only

    • The combined package of GPU, Machine-learning accelerator, and cache chiplets are collectively called an "APD" or "Accelerated Processing Device"

    • The APD described in this application has a chiplet of both ML Accelerator as well as a cache on the same chiplet.

    • Different process nodes are specifically mentioned as a possibility for each type of chiplet.

    • The memory modules of each MLA can be dynamically configured to be used as cache (i.e. infinity cache) or as directly accessible memory

    • The MLAs may be used as a physical interface between the APD core and memory that is a tier higher in the memory hierarchy (i.e. the MLA is physically put between the APD core and the GDDR/HBM). This may be describing a chiplet that is embedded in the substrate and used both as a silicon bridge as well as an accelerator

    Is there ANY IT industry impact assessment for what would happen if Taiwan's output is suddenly choked off by a military conflict with China?

    Taiwan is small but very important for the global hardware industry. They are entangled in a decades long complicated relationship with China where Taiwan says it's independent and China says no it's not, to the point where today China plainly threatned that independence "means war".

    Ignoring that a military conflict between China and Taiwan might quickly escalate to one between China and US, let's assume it stays local to Taiwan.

    Is there ANY IT industry impact assessment for what would happen? No more CPUs/GPUs/other chips? For how long?
