Thanks to my friends I was able to upgrade my PC and I've never felt happier.

    Posted: 25 Jul 2020 10:56 PM PDT

I was running a 5 year old PC which I had upgraded once to put in some more RAM and a new graphics card and storage. At some point I realised my old CPU (i5-4690) was the bottleneck in my rig, so I started looking into upgrading it, which then I found out I needed to update my MOBO to do so, which then I found out is a pretty big operation. And that's when I gave up for a while.

Now, thanks to my friends I was able to buy the new parts I needed and we set it up together yesterday. It even booted up on the first try! And the performance boost was just amazing. Seeing Monster Hunter World running at 1080p 60fps on high was amazing.

I'm more of a software guy, but working on hardware yesterday made me appreciate that it's not as hard as I made it out to be. I hope I'll get the chanve to try working on more builds in the future.

    My new Build:

    • MSI B450 Gaming Max Plus
    • AMD Ryzen 5 3600
    • 8GBx2 Corsair Vengeance Memory
    • GTX 1060 6Gb
    • 650W Corsair PSU
    • 500GB SSD
    • 1TB HDD

3 months of issues with 5700XT...

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 08:43 AM PDT

    Hi all

Built a new PC in April for the first time. Since then, I get black screen restarts every day/few days and I've almost tried everything to fix it. Tried speaking to 3 PC repair specialists in my area, all refusing to attempt to repair this due to it being 'too complicated...'

As you may see from my post history, I've been posting about issues for months now, trying to fix this. I've finally RMA'd almost everything and it seems the GPU is the issue.

    The issue is as followed:

    • Game runs fine, no issues
      • Screen randomly turns black, with seemingly no pattern as to what causes it to black out. Sometimes in games, sometimes cutscenes, high and low intensity games etc
      • Keyboard LED and Mouse LED stays on for a few seconds whilst screen goes light black/grey (screen is displaying black rather than being completely black/turned off)
      • PC and keyboard and mouse turn off
      • Entire PC turns off for 1 second then turns itself back on, runs fine afterwards (until next crash)

This mostly happens when gaming, but the GPU seems to be fine in certain games. I've never crashed playing SMITE, but will crash playing minecraft, Fifa, GTA, Warzone, and browsing online.

    Specs: - R5 3600 (RMA'd) - B450 Tomahawk Max (RMA'd) - Gigabyte 8GB 5700XT OC - 2x8GB C16 LPX vengeance Corsair - TX650M Corsair PSU (RMA'd) - 1TB SSD M.2 - WiFi card

    Things I've tried:

    • fresh windows install
    • DDU resinstall drivers
    • install newest drivers
    • go back to 20.4.2 drivers
    • ultimate performance power plan
    • turn off hard drive sleep in power settings
    • change power setting to [typical] in BIOS
    • turn on XMP profile/turn off XMP profile
    • undervolt CPU
    • 2 PSU cables into GPU
    • RMA PSU
    • RMA MOBO
    • Remove SSD/HDD
    • rebuilt PC 3x, ensuring thermal paste was sufficient/fan seated
    • tuning GPU on AMD Software
    • increasing fan curve and checking temperatures constantly

I've below attached my imgur, which shows my system settings on CPU-Z, as well as the GPU tuning I've tried on AMD software: https://imgur.com/user/davidsmoth42

I purchased the card from CCLOnline who are refusing a refund/replacement. They said all they can offer is a repair which may take up to 60 days. I'm using the R5 3600 CPU which doesn't have integrated graphics, and I need the computer for working from home - I cant send the GPU back for a repair because then simply won't be able to use my PC/work.

If anyone can help I will literally be eternally grateful. I'm so stuck. I can't send it back, nothing I've tried has fixed it... I don't know what to do.

TLDR - New build PC with 5700XT, RMA'd almost everything and getting black screen restarts under heavy + light loads. Merchant (CCLONLINE) refusing to replace/refund. Tried everything under the sun. Completely lost

My sound wasn't working on my new pc for 3 days

    Posted: 25 Jul 2020 02:42 PM PDT

I tried everything, lots of googling, deleting and reinstalling the drivers. I went in the sound control panel probably 20 times. After a lot of time, I decided to open up my pc and look at the sound cable.

Will Ryzen 3000 and Nvidia 2000 Prices Go Down? Also, Do GPU's go on sale on black friday?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 03:36 AM PDT

So im looking to build my first ever pc this year and was going for something like a Ryzen 3600, B550 DSH3,RTX 2070, 16GB RAM build. The total for the pc (Excluding Case and Storage as i have it) was about $1500AU. Now i was going to buy the parts one at a time until i found out that AMD is releasing 4th Gen Ryzen and Nvidia is releasing 3000 Series GPU around September/October. But i have 2 questions:

1- Should i wait and buy all the parts together?

2- Will prices drop/Go on sale on sites like Amazon or even local pc stores due to new release.

Im fairly new to this sort of thing so i dont know what prices are like on new release. And one last question i had was on Black Friday/Cyber Monday, do Graphics Cards go on sale and if they do, how much % is it usually reduced by, as the gpu is about $800AU and a 2080 Super is about $1000 but if the 2080 goes on sale and comes around the $800-$850 mark i might buy it.

When you spend all your money on your pc and monitor so you have to use a CD player as a speaker

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 09:30 AM PDT

It's not actually that bad, given that it was like £30 and bought 5 years ago. Kind of annoying though as it means I have to move my monitor forward to get central sound. Also I have decent headphones.

PC suddenly won’t post. Please help!

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 10:45 AM PDT

    Hi all,

Recently built a PC with a 10900K probably 2 weeks ago. Everything was going pretty well, until this morning I decided to put it under CPU-ID stress testing to check max temps. I had done this before with no issue. Everything went well and it didn't go over 60 C. As soon as I stopped the test, the PC shutdown. When I turned it back on, I get a Q code of 00. I have tried removing CMOS battery and resetting but nothing. Have been able to get to BIOS once, but when I exited it went back to 00. At first some of the MOBO indicator lights lit up, but now nothing. I'm not sure how I determine if this is a board or CPU issue. Any suggestions? Specs below:

    10900K stock 32 gb 4000mhz cl18 ram Asus z490 e gaming H150i AIO Corsair hx1000i psu Asus strix 1080 ti WD 2tb m.2 ssd

UPDATE: removed two DIMMs and the graphics card to see if power might be an issue. This allowed it to get to BIOS, everything looked fine. Exited BIOS, and Windows said it need to restart. Did that, and PC shut down at the windows login screen. Then Q Code of 00 again. Removed the usb plug from the pump, and it started to post again, shut down at the bios screen, and code 00 again.

First Gaming PC and First Ever Build Complete!

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 10:31 AM PDT

So I've always been interested in building a computer but I never really took the plunge. I've always had a console of some sort, PS4 Pro and Xbox One currently. I find they're fun but I always wanted a bit more. I've also been in the market for a new laptop, but honestly, my iPad Pro pretty much covers the work I do on the go. So I said just build a computer already! I am very happy with what I put together and it fired up on the first try! My wife did come up and say she hoped this didn't go like a Christmas Vacation, Clark Griswold scenario with nothing happening.

    CPU: Ryzen 3700x

CPU Cooler: Wraith Cooler that came with the CPU (I've ordered a Noctua NH-U12A)

    Mobo: ASUS Rog Strix B450-F

GPU: EVGA Super XC Ultra 2070 Super

Ram: CORSAIR Vengeance RGB PRO 32GB

    PSU: CORSAIR CX750M

Fans: CORSAIR iCUE SP120 x3, one stock NZXT case fan

    Case: NZXT H510i

    Monitor: Viotek GNV34DB Ultrawide

I didn't realize how crazy all of these RGB lights looked so I've toned it down quite a bit. It also took me a bit to figure out how to get the lights on the Mobo to turn off when I powered the computer down. It's been great so far and seems crazy fast for anything I've done so far.

I thought I'd share since it's fun and my wife didn't seem all that impressed. Haha.

Edit: Couldn't figure out how to include a picture in the post.

    A tale of two PC's

    Posted: 25 Jul 2020 11:58 PM PDT

My new build is complete! My new build is a gift to myself, a reward I promised myself for finishing residency. The planning was going swimmingly, then the wrench of COVID19 hit. My plan was originally to build this computer back in April/May, but when the pandemic hit, my life got kind of crazy. Not only that, parts were impossible to find. Well, about 5 months of work and social distancing later, My new build is finally done.

Now the question became what to do with my old rig. When I was in my first year of med school, I was broke as hell, and my brother-in-law gave me his old gamimg PC. It had an Athlon II and a GTX760 which did me over long enough until saved up enough to build my own computer in 2015/2016. It had a i5 6600k and an R9 390. Over the last year or so, things started to show their age with the old system. Coolermaster GTS V8 fans died and they dont make them any more so I replaced it with a 212 black edition. Also the fans on my 390 died and I ended up getting lucky on a Midweek Madness 980TI for about $60. I can finally somewhat repay my brother-in-law as my old rig is now going to go to his son, who is dying for a machine to play Minecraft and Fortnite. I'm planning on surprising him for Christmas with it all in pieces and assembling it together, all while teaching him about computers along the way (he's 7).

    Low Power GPU (Preferably AMD)?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 01:37 PM PDT

I've currently got a 1050Ti, and I got it because it had no external power connectors. Low power, but it can display a picture on the screen and play hardware accelerated video.

I'm looking for a modern AMD equivalent - preferably no external power connectors, or only one 6pin, and if possible, passively cooled. I looked at the RX560, but it seems there are a lot of variants and some of them are so bad they're just a waste of money. Is there one of the current generation that fits my wants?

It doesn't matter if it's an AIO or Air cooler, I'm just wondering if there is any CPU coolers better than what I have right now (DRP4) and if it would be worth upgrading.

    Ryzen 5 2600 vs 3600

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 11:58 AM PDT

Hi there everyone, I'm looking to put together a budget PC and the decision of a CPU has me stumped. On one hand I can get an r5 3600 new at micro center for $159, but someone in my town on Facebook is selling an r5 2600 for $125. Is the difference in performance worth spending more on the 3600? I'm using the PC solely for gaming on a 1080p 240hz monitor, and also I'm looking at a Gigabyte b450m ds3h, which I know id have to update the bios for to support 3rd gen ryzen, and I'd like to avoid that if I can.

It would be really helpful if you guys can let me know your comments.
