Posted: 26 Jun 2020 10:49 PM PDT Hello all! I've only been a console gamer and as a recent college grad, I'd like to gift myself a gaming pc fornthe past 4 years of work. I got so excited to finally get one, but realized that it may not be the best time to get one given the Corona situation. Idk what prices were like before the pandemic hit, so I'm not sure if I should go ahead and try to build one. My budget is $1,000. Any sort of help or input would be greatly appreciated! I Will Legit Paypal Someone $10 If They Can Fix This Posted: 27 Jun 2020 11:55 AM PDT Hey everyone, I finished my build a little while back and I've noticed something odd since. It felt to me like things were not running great considering my hardware, it wasn't horrible, but just didn't feel right. I pushed it aside because I thought it was just me, but today I confirmed it. I ran the benchmark in Shadow of the tomb raider and compared it to another benchmark that ran the exact same settings and worse hardware, yet mine performed worse. The other person had a Ryzen 3600, a 2070, and 16gb of RAM, and averaged 103 fps. I have a Ryzen 3800x, 2070 Super, and 16gb RAM and averaged 83 FPS. All of our settings, resolutions, everything, were the exact same. Any ideas on why this is happening? I did a clean uninstall of the drivers and reinstalled them but it's still the same. I'm not sure what to do from here. One thing I was thinking about is I have a 550W PSU which I know is on the low end for this type of a system, but I believe my system still only draws about 430, so could it really be that throttling it? I also have run multiple benchmark softwares and it's evident something is wrong there as well. While other people with the exact same hardware are scoring numbers like 9500, I'm scoring 6000 if I'm lucky. Would love some help, thanks for your time and effort, it's much appreciated [link] [comments]
I have never joined, nor looked at this sub. Posted: 27 Jun 2020 01:33 AM PDT I have never joined, nor looked at this sub. I didn't even know about its existence. But, 1 week ago, I decided to start buying components for my PC, starting with and SSD to install Windows 10, and bring my childhood PC to its old glory. 3 days ago, the SSD arrives and I install Windows 10. (Props to SSDs: they're extremely and impressively quick compared to an HDD, I thought people meant a slight change but I was blown away) 2 days ago, Reddit starts suggesting this sub to me, notifying me about rising posts on here. This is a great coincidence, due to the Steam discounts happening super close to me making my PC usable again. I have never joined, nor looked at this sub, but I'm happy I got to thanks to Reddit. (If anyone wants backstory, just ask in the comments) [link] [comments]
Finally achieved my childhood dream Posted: 27 Jun 2020 12:17 PM PDT Since i was a kid i wished for a PC, but never got the money and my dad wouldnt help me at all cuz "youre only gonna play and forget about everything and get addicted". But after selling a bunch of stuff, lending money from my partner and some more from work and other stuff, i made it! Well, the catch is that i reused parts from my really old pc, heres the specs: CPU | AMD Ryzen 3 3200G 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Processor Motherboard | MSI B450M PRO-VDH PLUS Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard Memory| G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 CL15 Memory Storage |Seagate Barracuda 500 GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive Case | Old Halion PSU | Really Old Halion 600w Now, this needs a bit of clarification i've only bougth the Ryzen, the MOBO and the RAM. The hard drive, the case and the power supply are reused. Halion is a local brand (apparently) The case is pretty much a box but it works, the only problem its the PSU, its 10 years old, im kinda worried it may explode but hey, im using it just fine right now! I wouldve loved to buy a new one but i just dont have the money, maybe in a few months i can save enough. Anyway, it works! And its soooo good, im loving it. Thanks to anyone reading this, i just wanted to share my happiness. PD: apparently i have no idea how to format this, send help. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jun 2020 06:00 AM PDT I'm almost ready to start building, the GPU has yet to arrive. These are my specs: Any last minute advice that I should take before I start building? Some extra precautions maybe? [link] [comments]
TN vs VA vs ISP / monitor help Posted: 27 Jun 2020 01:42 PM PDT Can anyone explain the differences between and advantages of each of these panel types? Aside from knowing prices usually go VA < TN < IPS I don't really know much else. I am also looking to purchase a good 1440p monitor to go with my first gaming pc build and so I've listed a couple I've seen recommended if you have an opinion on which is a better choice or if you have another suggestion just let me know down below, thanks! I need help picking a Motherboard. Posted: 27 Jun 2020 01:11 PM PDT I am ordering the parts to my first build and I was originally planning on getting the Asus TUF X570-Plus (WiFi) but it's out of stock. The same thing happened with my PSU but I got a different one. So I need to get a MoBo from around 200-230 USD price range. First ever PC build and set up complete! Posted: 27 Jun 2020 12:39 PM PDT Just finished my first ever PC build! It took about 5-6 hours to build but it was worth it! Only made two newbie mistakes (that I know of so far) but fixed them: -Put CPU fan backwards - had the wrong pcie cable plugged into my graphics card. the second mistake did not allow it to post first boot but after quickly fixing it, it posted perfectly! Parts will be listed below but if anyone has any suggestions on programs or games to download, let me know! I am currently playing warzone, GTA V, and fortnite. Also run MSI afterburner to monitor temps and usage. I am building my first PC and it won’t turn on Posted: 27 Jun 2020 03:23 AM PDT I am pretty sure it's because my front panel connectors arent placed correctly, but I have no idea where to place them because in every video I watch I can't find one with the motherboard I got. This is the motherboard I have and I need to place the positive, negative, and power switch cables and I don't know where they go. Can someone please help me out and tell me which pins to place them on, I have read the manual front to back multiple times and cannot figure this out for the life of me [link] [comments]

~$500 Budget, Custom Zombies and College Posted: 27 Jun 2020 10:27 AM PDT Build Help/Ready:Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do) Replace this text with your answer. What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better. I need it to do stuff for college and I want to play cod custom zombies. If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings) Just normal whatever that would be, make sure everything runs smoothly and looks good. **What is your budget (ballpark is okay)? Around $500, minus the monitor. In what country are you purchasing your parts? US Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!). AMD 5 1600 6-Core Processor ASRock B450 PRO4 Motherboard 8GB Patriot Viper Blackout RAM XFX RX 570 8GB GPU PNY CS900 500GB SSD Thermaltake Versa H18 Case Seasonic S12 500W PSU These are just some ideas of parts that I've found, if these are out of stock I would need some help on getting other similar parts. Provide any additional details you wish below. This might be overkill so other suggestions on lesser parts would be cool, and hopefully the build process isn't too hard. PC is stuck in a boot cycle with debug LEDs Posted: 27 Jun 2020 10:23 AM PDT Hi, Since yesterday my PC won't properly boot and seems to be stuck in an endless cycle. The debug/warning LEDs display red CPU, white VGA, yellow BOOT in sequence before rebooting again. The fans and and DRAM LEDs do turn on for about 2 seconds during that sequence. I've checked my CPU pins and motherboard socket, but that all seems fine. I've also tried a dry run with just one DRAM stick, CPU fan and GPU, but still didn't get any video output. Could this mean that the CPU died? Specs

Help choosing parts for my first mini-ITX gaming PC: 1440p/60fps+ target. Posted: 27 Jun 2020 09:03 AM PDT Hi all, I'm pretty technical and have performed various upgrades to different machines before... but I will soon be building my first PC starting from nothing. Some of my decisions are settled, but others I'm struggling to make -- so would appreciate any advice that you can offer. I'll be using this machine just for gaming, including RTS and city-simulation titles, but probably some AAA titles that I currently play on console for the controller input (and lack of a gaming PC). In particular, I can't decide which GPU would be more appropriate for 1440p gaming, the resolution of my current monitor. This monitor is also capped to 60 hz, so while I would like to achieve a locked 60 fps, it may be the case that a 2080 super would be overkill, and I'd like to avoid spending so much on one component if I won't even be seeing a benefit from it! Besides the GPU, the next area I am having difficultly settling on is the motherboard. Given the price/performance of the Ryzen chips and a need for a USB C front-header, the B550 chipset seems to be the way I have to go... As for memory, I don't plan on using this build for general computing, but I am interested in city simulation games, and wonder if moving from 16 to 32 GB memory would affect performance for this at all. Thanks for your help and I welcome any other comments/questions you have! PS. My budget is in the £1400-£1800 range. At present, my parts list looks like this: (no pcpartspicker link because the case etc. isn't on there)

Power Supply Problem, PC won't turn on Posted: 27 Jun 2020 10:09 AM PDT Hi all, Beginner here. I put together a PC build using Corsair RM750x power supply and tufx570 motherboard. I'm pretty sure I put everything in the right place. The issue I'm having is when I flip the power switch the fans don't run and power doesn't seem to flow through. I listened closely to the socket cable that connects to the power supply and it is kinda faint. Any advice would be nice. [link] [comments] |
