Which m.2 SSD manufacturers have half decent firmware for encryption?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 07:13 PM PDT

Does one have to do to enterprise grade SSDs to get half decent hardware encryption from an SSD? It's not a specification that's easy to find and most reviewers don't cover that. How does one find information on the encryption implementation of an SSD's firmware?

    Filling an old aio?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 10:15 PM PDT

I did a quick video on what I've been doing with old AIO's for years to get them on the cheap and re sell them, I've never had one come back doing it this way

Great way to save some cash if your doing a budget build

Do you agree HDD is way behind the PC evolution game?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 12:47 AM PDT

It seems CPU has been leading the way since the i series, RAM is always enough is good, more is better, and GPU seems to be always evolving. But 1 thing seems to be lagging behind and that would be storage. The rise of SDD is actually a step backwards in terms of storage space despite it's superior speed, and it seems HDD makers are happy with the slow increase in mechanical drives, because "hey even the latest micro SD card only offers 500GB of space". With 4k gaming getting common, 1 game can easily take up 70GB just for the 4k textures, and it's no longer uncommon for games to go over 100GB. So even with a 4GB HDD, you can only store that many games. And with console gamers, it's even worse as 1TB seems to be the norm for them.

With games being so big, it is really troublesome to uninstall them, and redownload and reinstall them with all the patches, mods etc just for the sake of replaying it abit. But if you don't uninstall them, either you need to upgrade for bigger drives or get some docking system and buy more drives (if you run out of sata ports).

HDD management has now an issue for me as i need to install new games on different drives and shuffle them so at least games from the same series are in the same drives. And since consoles nowadays also enforce full installation, you can't just skimp on HDD because you can run the disc on the fly like the old days.

One RGB controller to rule them all

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 12:45 AM PDT

So I'm planning a case, cooling and RGB upgrade. I'm not upgrading components as my system can still handle games fine but my GPU is running quite warm and my case is boring. So, I've basically decided on the Lian Li Dynamic case. For a couple extra bucks, I can get the razor edition which adds some nice light strips built in. Then I want to add some NZXT AER fans and Lian Li Strimmer. And finally probably some light strips (haven't decided which yet). My current motherboard doesn't have any RGB headers so will need a controller for now. I haven't done too much research in than but have read than there aren't any easy solutions. Which work the best with different RGB components? Or am I stuck to a single supplier? And if so, I suppose I have to choose between using the nice AER fans or the Dynamic Razor case :(

    a PSU with Thermoelectric generator?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2020 11:12 PM PDT

seems like a simi complicated thing but when I think about it (i have no credentials if anyone who knows a lot more wants to say something, please say) it seems like a simple idea.

you set the PSU act more like a pass threw battery, with power coming in from 2 ways, heat and your normal wall outlet, power from the heat comes first if you could help it and everything else comes after. for people that want to go more eco friendly, this saves on power consumption, and for people that produce a lot of heat like crypto miners, they will benefit a lot too. and for me... it saves me money in any way I can. can be in the system or out of the system, but the heat must transfer to the device somehow.

please say if you know of a project like this and just give your thoughts on it.
