Mindfactory Graphics Sales Report 2019: nVidia "SUPER" vs. AMD 5700 Series

    Posted: 18 Jan 2020 03:32 AM PST

    • only counted new SKUs from last summer: nVidia's GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER, 2070 SUPER, 2080 SUPER and AMD's Radeon RX 5700, 5700 XT (full report with all SKUs available next month)
    • based on public available data for sales on german retailer Mindfactory
    • sales numbers from respective launch date to December 31, 2019 for all available models on Mindfactory
    • so, it gives us a scoop about the german retail market at a price range from $349 to $699, nothing more
    • this stat is not 100% fair, because it's not include the sales of the non-SUPER RTX cards (2070 & 2080 going EOL, but 2060 still exists)
    • also, AIB models for AMD's 5700 series came clearly later in the market than AIB models for nVidia's SUPER series

SKU Launch List Price Sales 2019
    GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER July 23, 2019 $699 3 490
    GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER July 2, 2019 $499 13 175
    GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER July 2, 2019 $399 5 315
    Radeon RX 5700 XT July 7, 2019 $399 13 690
    Radeon RX 5700 July 7, 2019 $349 4 510

    • beside all the unevenness of this stat, AMD already got a market share of 45% on the new graphics cards of the summer of 2019
    • the Radeon RX 5700 XT beats the sales of the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER (at the same list price) "SUPER-clearly" 2.6 to 1
    • fun fact: the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER (5135 sales in 2019) come close to the sales number of the GeForce RTX 2060 (6445 sales in 2019) in nearly half of the time (GeForce RTX 2060 launch date was January 7, 2019)

    IMPORTANT NOTE

The original posting includes wrong (too low) numbers for the 2080SUPER and 5700XT. I changed these numbers on January 19, 07:13 Berlin-Time. The changes are: 2080S up from 2090 to 3490 and 5700XT up from 12590 to 13690. The shares are the same within these new numbers, just the relation of the sales for the 5700XT to the 2060SUPER change from "2.4 to 1" to "2.6 to 1".

The reason for my mistake with these numbers was just and simple 3 missing cards on Mindfactory's product list of December 31. These cards (MSI 2080SUPER Gaming X Trio, MSI 5700XT Reference & Sapphire 5700XT Reference) are not new, Mindfactory saled them over the full 2nd half of 2019. These 3 cards was just not listed on December 31 (I have a data backup for the 2080SUPER, so I can prove that). Why not listed? I dont know. But it point out to the problem, that these data from Mindfactory can not take too seriously. The same problem can happen any time again. Anyway, my apologize for providing wrong data with the original post. And kudos to Ottl for the sharp mind and eyes to hunt for that issue.

Valve is demonstrating the problem with DRM

    Posted: 18 Jan 2020 05:55 PM PST

It's 2020, and I get that Windows XP support is unrealistic. It's understandable that Valve would finally cease to support that platform.

That being said, there are some games which don't play well with Windows 10 and or modern hardware, but run great on Windows XP.

Some of those games have DRM, and those titles will now be unplayable on those old machines now with this upcoming change because of the way Valve is ending it's support.

If Valve is going to end XP support - that's fine. However, they should at least provide a way for those games to run without Steam.
