Posted: 20 Dec 2019 05:29 AM PST the streaming providers all provide a set of tv shows and movies. so it doesn't appear to me that they need much data center capacity. the entire media set of say, Hulu, is maybe 100T max. that would only be 1 data center. and they can probably afford all-SSD on this. this is in contrast with custom video content provider such as YouTube, where people upload their own videos, which rquire immense data center capacity to host them. any thoughts on that? Why are only 3 companies making CPUs and GPUs? Posted: 20 Dec 2019 02:21 PM PST Has anyone ever thought why there are only 2 brands that make CPUs and only 2 brands that make GPUs. When you think about it the CPU and the GPU are some of the most critical components in a PC. You would think that other companies would like to also make them but yet the Intel, AMD and Nvidia seem to be the only ones producing these components. [link] [comments] |
