[Experiment] 5 years later: Drilled into AIO radiator to refill coolant. Findings + results. Posted: 26 May 2022 10:38 AM PDT Context: It is said that AOI coolers last for ~5 years, with the primary mode of failure being caused by the coolant permeating the tubes and evaporating. I wanted to see how true this was, at least in NZXT's case... Cooler: NZXT X62 280mm AIO. -- Purchased in January 2017. (5+ years old active duty on a 24/7 9900k at 5.1GHz All core system, used for work/gaming/production/mining). I stood the radiator vertically and let the pump run for a few minutes to have any of the air bubbles accumulate at the top. I then drilled a 1mm hole at the top, being extremely careful to not let any debris into the radiator. I then used a syringe to syphon some fluid to inspect its state: -- Result 1: Very clear, no contaminants. -- I put it back into the radiator. I then used a syringe to inject OAT based antifreeze (anti-corrosion/anti bio etc) into the radiator to top it up. -- Result 2: I managed to inject 10ml before it topped out. This means that in the 5 years since install (date of actual manufacture is unknown), less than 10ml of coolant had permeated the tubes and evaporated. Surprisingly, this is a very small amount: Rough size comparison of 10ml liquid bottle: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0519/9531/2284/products/10ml-spray-anim_Unopti_be3a3654-6059-43b7-b1fa-e05979ef06a2_1200x.gif Most of this 10ml space is likely left on purpose by NZXT for coolant expansion during heat transfer. Further checks: I was very surprised by this - I had expected more to be needed. Thinking that maybe there might be air bubbles somewhere in the loop, I again turned on the pump and shook the radiator vigorously, to ensure no air bubbles. After another attempt with the syringe, the radiator still seemed topped out. To end things, I then sealed the hole with silicone paste. Cooling performance did not change. Conclusion: So, for everyone fretting that their AIO cooler is going to be EOL after 5 years - I say don't worry about evaporation or coolant contamination - it will be fine for 10+ years at this rate, at least in NZXT's case. The only thing you might worry about is the pump failing, which has pretty obvious signs... I hope people find my humble results useful for something... [link] [comments]

Will GPU prices double again when RTX 4000 is released? Posted: 27 May 2022 03:08 AM PDT When RTX 3000 released, prices went double MSRP. Now that they are going down again, I'm planning to get a 3080 but should I wait for RTX 4000 and risk not being able to get a Gpu for 2 years? Will prices go up again? I posted this on r/buildapc but it was removed so I post it here. [link] [comments]
