Posted: 26 Oct 2021 08:10 AM PDT All 6800xt owners that wanted to know thermal pad specs..here you go Warning results are major So after an hour or more of trying to research info on what thermal pads to use on the 6800xt Reference model, I got nothing I just came across a bunch of ppl asking the same thing and been waiting for gamer nexus to update us after his break down video like he did on the 6700xt.. well I went ahead order some thermal pads, paste and a caliper and decided to take the risk to do it myself. Keep in mind 2 things. 1. I've never done this before so I did what I thought and what I've seen on YT search on how to get the best measurements. 2nd this is a $10 caliper so measurement may not be the most accurate but I measured 3 sets of thermal pads and a couple different size washers that I knew the size of and it measured spot on or 0.1mm off.. good enough for me. Alright that's long enough the conclusion is for the back plate 1mm pads for VRM & 2mm for memory chips this is if you're using a firmer thermal pad if you're using a soft pliable pad use 1.5mm and 2.5mm. UPDATE * (Just looked at my notes smh not 1mm on the heatsink ) For the heatsink pads 1.5mm is the size but they were very very soft The results were STOCK 10mins 99% Load , Fans at 1350rpm Gpu 76c / junction 94c AFTER MODS 10mins 99% load , Fans at 1350rpm Gpu 64c / Junction 75c 6800xt Pics UPDATE* To anyone who is looking to do this please be careful , you can easily ruin your gpu! I do not take any responsibility for that this is simply a guide to anyone who is willing to take that chance. Also if you do the thermal paste before you remove the main bracket check the tightness on all 4 screws and get a feel for how tight they are , if you tighten them back up to tight you can crack your die on the gpu. I made mine very snug while only using my wrist, no cranking down or anything like that also there is a certain way to tight the screws use ( See pics added in the link ) Basically you need to just barley tighten screw section 1 and section 2 then go to then down the pcb board then repeat to get it a little tighter. Should take you 3-4 times to fully tighten then move on to the bracket same idea screw down just a little then move to the next screw and back and forth until it's fully tighten. This is to give you a good flat pressure across the whole die, also on the thermal paste I used Noctua because it's thick and Then spread it out on the die not just a drop or a light fully spread it out [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Oct 2021 12:21 AM PDT I thought about this A lot these past couple of years and I wonder if there is some legitimate reason but why can't we just fill all the empty space inside of phones and stuff with a thermally conductive non-electrically conductive (I know those are two things that are hard to have together) gel that makes it so that the space inside the device is non-compressible and then you wouldn't need as good of waterproofing for pretty much anywhere except for the speakers because you can't fill the speakers with gel and expect them to work [link] [comments] |

Rambus (Northwest Logic) GDDR6/PCIe 6.0 Controllers listed Posted: 26 Oct 2021 05:51 PM PDT Was looking into a local company here in Beaverton, OR and found that Northwest Logic was purchased by Rambus. Was stood out was they have PCIe 6.0 controllers listed and GDDR6. I found this interesting as I haven't seen any news for either. [link] [comments] |
