It's kinda annoying how many companies keep micro-USB alive. Posted: 07 Aug 2021 12:06 PM PDT My mom recently bought a bluetooth speaker by JBL that was released last year and it still uses micro-USB. I want to buy a USB flashlight but so many companies only specify "USB rechargeable" and there is no mention of which standard they use and it's pretty much always micro-USB. Zippo recently came out with an arc lighter insert for their classic zippo cases, it uses micro-USB. I got my first phone with USB-C 5 years ago. At the time I thought everyone would quickly realise that USB-C is superior and the transition would be as smooth as from mini-USB to micro-USB. I am aware that USB-C is more complex than micro-USB but any EE should be able to implement USB-C as a charge port without much trouble if they have experience with micro-USB and the type-C documentation. What is holding companies back? Edit: I understand that cost is a factor but that doesn't answer all questions. Many companies that manufacturer powerbanks decide to have both a micro-USB as well as a USB-C port. I can't recall any product during the mini- to micro-USB transition that had both ports. Debunking "FSR is just Lanczos" claims Posted: 07 Aug 2021 04:37 PM PDT The whole thing started with Alex from DF claiming nvidia CP can get a better than FSR by using GPU upscaling.
So I will start off by saying FSR is based on Lanczos however it is much faster which allows better performance and it also solves a few major issues from Lanczos, most notably the ringing artifacts. I took some screenshot comparisons of FSR vs FSR + RIS vs Lanczos with FidelityFX Sharpening in Rift Breaker vs FSR with Magpie + FidelityFX Sharpening All images except Native are 720p to 1440p upscaled. Ray Tracing was turned to Max. Magpie seems to add way more sharpening than the real FSR was even after adding 60% RIS But anyways lets get back to MagPie to inject fsr vs injecting Lanczos A super zoomed in on the characters will show the biggest difference in Magpie Lanczos vs Magpie FSR You can see insane amounts of artifacts on the Lanczos scaling (Right) with a much better impage on the MagPie FSR (Left) Not to mention the performance impact on Lanczos is insane. Because I did not disable Fidelity FX on the MagPie FSR there are some over sharpening artifacts however its still much better than the Lanczos especially on the edges of objects. tl;dr, Alex is wrong by saying using Lanczos + Sharpening will give you the same image as FSR even when using Fidelity FX Sharpening on Lanczos its still no where near as good as FSR.
