    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a ≤$300 graphics card. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case ≤$50

Should I buy the 5600x or the 3700x? Which cpu would last longer in terms of performance and future proofing?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2021 04:28 AM PDT

In this benchmark, " https://youtu.be/vDAKOPQ8NEc ", the CPU usage is higher on the 5600x compared to the 3700x. Will the 6 cores be a limiting factor in the future when games get bigger and actually take advantage of the extra cores in the 3700x despite it outputting less fps?

CPU Pin discoloration after using isopropyl alcohol and a brush - could this be a problem?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2021 05:42 AM PDT

    Pic: https://imgur.com/a/Sv1Lvlk Ryzen 5 3600

You can see the left part is darker

Today while cleaning my PC I got some thermal paste on the pins. I followed some steps online and used a brush dipped in isopropyl alcohol to get it off.

I think I made the mistake of using a dirty brush, the same brush I used to brush away dust from the other parts of the pc.

Any idea if this will be an issue? Thanks. I haven't tried turning the power on yet

    UPDATE:

I used a new clean brush, cleaned it a bit more with Isopropyl alcohol 99%, it cleared up a bit, decided to try my luck. Everything is running smooth. Thank you to everyone who genuinely tried to help!

    Looking for a Mechanical Keyboard

    Posted: 10 Jul 2021 02:49 AM PDT

I've have been searching for a new keyboard as I've always had a membrane keyboard and wanted to try changing to a mechanical. As I heard about them for years and the hype about them from membrane types. After searching around I stumbled upon this mechanical keyboard for $29.99 after coupon. I've always had a full 100% keyboard so a 60% will be new to me as well. I'm wondering if this is a good keyboard to buy, as I'm not sure if optical switches are good compared to those more expensive cherry switches.

This is the link to the keyboard I'm looking at [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08YJJFQ5K/ref=ox_sc_act_image_4?smid=A33K1G0YLCHCQJ&psc=1.]

EDIT: Thank everyone for all the recommendations, however I do not want to spend over $100 on a keyboard as of right now. I can maybe try other keyboards at a close price range maybe in the $40-50 range. I will keep in mind in the near future if I do like the switch from membrane to mechanical to all those recommendations of higher price point keyboards that everyone gave me!

    Have NZXT motherboards gotten better?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2021 05:42 AM PDT

I love the design of the nzxt motherboards but i usually go performance over looks. I heard before they weren't the greatest but then i heard recently that they have gotten better. I want to get one but i would only get one if the performance was good. Have they gotten better to the point where it's a good purchase?

Windows 10 boot loop fresh install on nvme

    Posted: 10 Jul 2021 12:53 PM PDT

So I have a b550 AM motherboard, it is flashed and up to date. I bought a 1 TB Samsung 980 NVMe, installed, computer recognizes it I can store things on it at will. Cannot clone from SSD due to partition size. Decided to do a fresh install on the NVMe, no matter what it only goes to loop.

I've tried it with CSM disabled which it doesn't recognize the NVMe, secure view on, secure boot off. Tried it with Windows creation and with Rufus. I've done disc part and clean, I've unplugged the USB immediately after it says it's restarting to finish up.

No dice. I'm honestly thinking that possibly the AS rock bored maybe causing me some issue It is M2 compatible, but I tried with my 1 TB SSD to install it on there and I still can't get it it goes into constant loop.

I am honestly willing to send somebody some money if they can help me figure this out because no one else has been able to help.

    1080p 240hz worth it???

    Posted: 10 Jul 2021 07:02 AM PDT

So to put it in perspective I already have a 3440x1440 100hz monitor teamed with a 1080ti. So I can realistically drive any thing I need to at 1080p even with the 1080ti starting to show it's age but it still packs a solid punch for sure.

I just wanted to know if anyone who's experienced the difference and is it worth the resolution cut for the added smoothness?

I'm absolutely a frame snob, I've spent more time optimizing my settings in Witcher 3 just to make it as buttery smooth as possible. I know most people use the 240hz for shooters and stuff but I honestly could care less.

Before you comment I know I know, don't get it if your not gonna be playing shooters. I get it, don't think I don't. I just wanna know is the smoothness as buttery as I believe it to be and does the lower resolution take away from the experience for you?

    Thanks In advance you guys/girls!!!

    Happy Saturday!

Help me fix my display issue. I've been trying to fix it for a week.

    Posted: 10 Jul 2021 02:14 PM PDT

    Specs are Ryzen 3700x, Asrock B550m itx, 16gb RAM 3200mhz, RTX 2060. Display is a AOC 27G2.

For some reason my screen started to get some type of screen tearing...? It doesn't seem like it since the entire screen freezes for a very small millisecond every .25 seconds only in games. I've checked my GPU usage while idle to see if my card wasn't being used for mining under my nose.

I took my GPU and CPU from my atx case to my itx case and when I started gaming on the new case is when it started happening. Don't know if it's the motherboard PCIE lane or some settings I haver to change but it's driving me absolutely crazy. I'm ready to throw the whole PC away.

I've tried a lot of different things like RivaTuner, V sync, rolling back nvidia drivers, limiting fps in NVIDIA control panel and in games, changing windows settings, reseating the GPU, disassembling my pc to make sure connections are correctly seated. Nothing has solved my issue. Tho one thing that worked was turning on hardware accelerator on windows settings but then it came back a few days after.

    What do?

I'm building myself a new PC and I have some questions.

    Posted: 10 Jul 2021 02:44 PM PDT

Basically what the title says. I have:

    1. Asus ROG Strix 3060

    2. MSI MPG GUNGNIR 110R

    3. Silicon Power XPOWER Turbine RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory (given to me for free)

4.EVGA SuperNOVA GT 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

My questions are mainly about my cpu, motherboard and cooling system. I plan on doing a bit of streaming with this PC, nothing major just trying to have fun.

Would I be fine working with a Ryzen 5 5600 or would the Ryzen 7 5800 be better?

Would it be OK if I used a B550 motherboard or should I buy an X570?

I plan on using MSI MAG CORE LIQUID 360R to cool the cpu, will that be good enough if I use a Ryzen 7 or will I need more?

    Priorities?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2021 12:14 PM PDT

So I'm finally getting around to saving money to build my first ever PC, but I have no clue where to start. At the rate of income I have, it could take a full year to save up for the parts that I want, and I don't want the parts I buy to be outdated by the time I have them all. So my question is this: when should I purchase each part, in order of when those parts usually have updates/new iterations. Hope this makes sense, and thanks in advance!

What does the white light on the motherboard mean if it’s passing from cpu to gpu and so on?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2021 12:08 PM PDT

Just built my first pc a week ago. Been working fine but today I noticed the cpu is consistently hitting above 80 celcius and a white light now shows up (briefly upon turning on). It flashes through the four leds in the top right of my motherboard. Any idea what it means when it's not sold?

To put it simply, the USB-C 3.1 gen 2 port at the rear of my pc (built into the MSI Gaming pro carbon b450) is not detecting any device plugged into it. I am not sure if there is a setting or something else I am meant to do to fix the issue.

Provide any additional details you wish below.

I have a Samsung 980 1TB SSD and I'm not considering the cost of Windows. I also have my own peripherals. I'm hoping to buy the GPU soon at MSRP considering prices are going down.

I would like to know if all these parts would work together, especially if there is enough RAM clearance and if I would be able to connect the RGB together. Any suggestions to improve the build would be nice. Also I am a little confused about the configuration of the fans if I were to buy this case, I am considering 2 intakes at the front, 1 exhaust at back, and 1 exhaust at top.

Recommendatuon for 2.5gb ethernet pcie card?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2021 12:50 PM PDT

I've just upgraded to the asus prime z590-a with Intel Lan controller. It seems to be hit or miss on download speeds and I'm working through a firmware update to see if it helps (update fails and Asus hasn't given my a solution around that yet.)

If it doesn't, I'm thinking about a dedicated nic for ethernet, no wireless needed. Any specific options I should check out? This will be on a windows 10 box and I'd like to get at least 2.5gb as my home service is slightly higher than 1gig down.

    Thanks in advance!
