Posted: 01 May 2021 12:27 AM PDT EDIT2: TODO; Put the reddit account link of the lad who built most of this (since I posted for all of us, but he never gave me his account name lol) Parts list:
Total amount that he paid for all this: ~$300cad (for neither party wanted to just give/ take the GPU for free, and he wanted to buy a CPU cooler). He only watched the build His total happiness level afterward: Maximum :) EDIT1: Holy shit, we did not expect this post to blow up to this degree! Here are some general responses to some of the most common questions/ responses:

/r/buildapc x charity:water RTX 3080 giveaway! Posted: 01 May 2021 01:40 PM PDT Just over a month ago we were joined by PCPartPicker and charity: water to discuss the Water x Stream campaign and their incredible efforts to provide clean drinking water to communities around the world! Thank you to everyone that was able to participate, whether by donating, joining in on streams, or otherwise bringing awareness to this great cause. We made a promise then that if Water x Stream was able to surpass last year's record of $320,281 we would launch an RTX 3080 Founders Edition giveaway here on the subreddit. Thanks to the hard work, selflessness, and incredible generosity displayed over the last month - including an incredible final push from PCPartPicker themselves - charity: water has managed to surpass this year's $500,000 goal! So, courtesy of Nvidia, we've got one RTX 3080 Founders Edition to give away here on the subreddit. To enter, simply: Leave a comment on this post answering the question: "What is/was your favourite PC part, and why?" and include a PCPartPicker link to the part - no purchase necessary!
Thank you once more to PCPartPicker for their incredible generosity, to Nvidia for providing the RTX 3080 FE, and to charity: water for their commitment to delivering clean drinking water around the world. If you missed out on our initial announcement and still wish to participate, you can still donate to charity: water's campaign on Tiltify here: https://tiltify.com/charitywater/waterstream Good luck everyone! Can these specs run properly without a GPU? Posted: 01 May 2021 09:33 AM PDT Specs: - Motherboard: GIGABYTE B550 AORUS ELITE - CPU: AMD RYZEN 5 3600 6-Core 12-Threads (Max Boost 4.2 GHz) - RAM: Corsair VENGEANCE LPX 8GB 3200MHz Cl16 DDR4 Memory X 2 - PSU: Corsair TX650M 650 Watt 80 Plus Gold Certified PSU - SSD: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 250GB NVMe M.2 Up to 3500MBps can this pc run productivity tasks (text editors, web browsers) without huge lags or crashes? 5950x + M.2 SSD Crashes Computer, Same Issue with RMA'd 5950X Posted: 01 May 2021 10:56 AM PDT Hello everyone, I like to think I am fairly knowledgeable and competent when it comes to building and troubleshooting computers... but I am completely stumped on how to move forward with this issue. Any help is appreciated. Short version: anytime I attempt to run my computer with a 5950X and an M.2 SSD, the computer crashes. Running with a 5950X + sata SSD or 5800X + M.2 SSD works fine. I've replaced every single part and now my replacement 5950X is having the same issue. Long version
Alternative parts I have tested with

Based on the Overclock.net thread and this Tom's Hardware thread, this seems to be a more widespread issue. Now I have no idea where to go from here. With my first CPU, it appears to have been an issue with the single core boosting because on all core constant load (CPU mining) and with all cores downclocked to a low, fixed frequency, things appeared to be relatively stable. The second CPU is even MORE unstable and I can't get it to run for even a few minutes, even at reduced clocks. The SSDs work perfectly fine in my second PC. My main PC works perfectly fine with the 5800X. But BOTH 5950X have problems?? Excuse me but what the fuck? I have been able to replace EVERY single part. How is it possible I am still having issues? Is it possible I received a faulty replacement? Please send help. [link] [comments] |

Best CPU for VR to pair with RTX3090 + Valve Index Posted: 01 May 2021 01:38 PM PDT Hey guys, I recently upgraded from a 1080ti to an RTX3090 and while trying to push the Valve Index to 120 or 144hz, I seem to be getting about 20-25% reprojection in the game I am playing at 120hz which I think is because of the CPU frame times spiking. My CPU is an i5-8600k @ 4.7Ghz. My CPU or GPU usage isn't usually that high either. If I am correct and its the CPU holding me back, what is currently the best CPU I could get to allow me to push the higher hz of the Valve Index? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Questions regarding cooling for a RTX 3080 Posted: 01 May 2021 01:37 PM PDT So I managed to score a 3080, and I need to upgrade my case and power supply. I want to keep my temperatures down and my 3080 cool and not heat up too much when I install everything. The P400A Digital Case has three front fans AFAIK. I have the stock motherboard fan from my AMD processor. Should I get a exhaust fan as well? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 May 2021 01:10 PM PDT I have a 3080 evga FTW3 I7-10700k not over clocked 1200watt power supply 32gb ram m.2 drives 4k 144hz predator monitor My computer seems to do worse now than when I had my 2770 super. I have used DDU and updated all my bios and all. But I can't seem to stream fall guys due to encoder lag, or minecraft, or cold war even though fps is fine when playing. My cpu does not go over 70 percent usage or 70c and I changed the intelipmm in the registry files already. My cpu also stays at 4.5 ghz whether on the desktop idle or in any game. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 May 2021 12:52 PM PDT I found a Gigabyte RX 5500 XT OC 4gb for €300, which is a great price in the current situation. Should I get it or wait for others to go down in price? [link] [comments] |

Finally ordering first PC... what do you think? Posted: 01 May 2021 02:05 PM PDT Hi! I think I'm ready to order my first gaming PC, but I want to make sure that I'm not forgetting anything and this is all I need! Here's what I picked: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZG4BRT I want to make sure I'm not buying anything wrong or incompatible etc.. Is there anything that I'm forgetting about, or is this all I need? What do you think about the motherboard? Is it good? I also looked at the Z490-E but it's quite a bit more expensive. Are there any compatibility problems that I'm not noticing? I plan on only using the stock fans that come with the case for a while until I get some Noctua fans in the future, is this okay? Any opinions or recommendations of better parts etc. is appreciated! Thanks a ton! :) [link] [comments] |
Looking for £300 CPU+mobo to upgrade build Posted: 01 May 2021 02:04 PM PDT Want to upgrade my current CPU and motherboard as my CPU gets maxed out regularly while playing games etc. Current Build Budget is £300 for both combined. Last I checked the 3600 seemed like the best around this price range but I've heard Intel has made a comeback in the budget department with the 11400. Any advice would be appreciated. AMD motherboard and RAM recommendation? Posted: 01 May 2021 02:04 PM PDT I was not planning on building a PC until prices went down but I was able to snag a Ryzen 5800X off Facebook Marketplace for a decent discount below MSRP and had to get it. I am reusing my case (Corsair Cosmos 1000), PSU (Corsair 750W), EVO 970 M2 and EVO 850 2.5" for now. But I need a motherboard, RAM and a CPU cooler. My usage scenario is mostly CAD work with gaming. I don't do a ton of either (like 2 hours a day max but average about 1 hour/day) MOTHERBOARD I got an open box Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite V2 for about $120 off Microcenter. The downsides of my current board is only 3 case fan hookups, only 4 SATA and only 1 Ethernet. While I can fix it with add on cards, fan splitters etc, I wouldn't mind getting a better motherboard for around $150-250 which doesn't have any of these downsides I also read someplace that the VRM's on the Gigabyte board I got is underwhelming… At some point, I would like to update the case to a newer one. mATX boards are a plus especially those that might have a USB-C hookup for the case since I can downsize my case… RAM Currently I'm using 2 x 8GB Crucial Ballistix 2666MHz CL16 RAM that I got for free from work. I know these specs are considered pretty slow. What spec RAM should I be looking for? I don't plan on overclocking any components but I don't want to use slow RAM if it's causing a bottleneck CPU cooler I ordered a be quiet Dark Rock Pro 4 for $80 that keeps the 5800x at about 32C on idle and maximum I hit was 81C (stress testing). I could get Noctua NH-D15 for $100 (or the chromax for $110) or any other air coolers if worthwhile. Again, no plans to overclock Thanks for any advice… [link] [comments] |
Why does my pc make the sound of an alarm when I start it? Posted: 01 May 2021 01:58 PM PDT When starting, my pc sounds like my burglar alarm. How do I fix this? I know it's not my burglar alarm because it says it's DISARMED and in normal condition. (no alarm) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 May 2021 01:57 PM PDT Need help after mobo/cpu upgrade. Hello! New Specs:CPU: i5 11400F Upgraded from: I changed out my motherboard and cpu today, and booted up. Everything is recognized in the BIOS, but I can't get into Windows. I planned to wipe the drives and do a fresh install using my OEM Windows USB-drive. Booting from the USB-drive gives following error: "0xc0000098" and "OS can't boot because of a critical system driver is missing or contains errors" and won't let me get any further. Put my old hardware back in and it boots with no problems. Update: installed fresh Win10 on evo ssd on my old hardware, but windows freezes upon boot when new hardware is installed. Noe stuck.. Anyone have any ideas? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 May 2021 01:34 PM PDT I'm looking to upgrade components on my pc without upgrading the PSU. Motherboard: Acer b46h5-ad. Processor: i5-10400. RAM: (2x 8 gb) 16 gb ddr4 2666 mhz. Extra 500gb ssd. Those are the power drainers. No optical drive and no dedicated gpu YET. I'm planning on adding on a gpx 1650 (30w of juice). Recommendations for Mid Tower ATX Case, First Time Builder Posted: 01 May 2021 01:31 PM PDT I'm planning to build a Mid Tower ATX PC, however I can't decide which case to get. I'm looking for a case that's easy to build/upgrade in and to cable manage, as well as something that isn't flashy and won't give me any problems in the future. I've been looking at the NZXT H510 for 65.99, which looks great and seems beginner friendly. I only plan to spend 50-80 dollars on the case. [link] [comments] |
