    What GPU names mean

    Posted: 07 Apr 2021 11:08 PM PDT

Saw someone make a CPU name guide, and I wanted to make a GPU name guide too.

    The numbers in a GPU:

Most latest GPU's from Nvidia and AMD have 4 digits in their name. We split the GPU names into three parts:

    • The prefix
    • The first digit
    • The second and the third digit(or 3rd and 4th digit in Nvidia latest gen cards.)
    • The suffix

    For example

    RX|6|80|0|xt

    or

    RTX|2|0|70|Super

The Prefix is the indicator of a generation. The prefixes used by Nvidia and AMD nowadays is RTX for Nvidia and RX for AMD.Always pay attention to the prefix as card numbers can be the same. For example AMD HD 6800 has the same numbers as RX 6800. The two of those cards are very different.

Now these digits from left to right mean that:

First is what generation the GPU is from. Latest for Nvidia is 3XXX series and latest for AMD is 6XXX series.

Second or the third digit shows from which model line it is. Now both are different for Nvidia and AMD. Here are the numbers of what it usually means:

50- It is the cheapest one in the model line and is mostly meant for entry level 1080p.

60- The most budget friendly option mostly meant for 1080p gaming or high refresh rate gaming. It is also a entry-level 1440p card

70- The option which arguably has the most bang for the buck. It is meant for high refresh rate 1080p and 1440p gaming. It is also and entry-level 4k card.

80- This is usually the best and most expensive card in the model line. It is for enthusiast and 4K gamers.

90- Now this one is a rare occurrence . If it exists in a generation then it is the best and most expensive card in the mode line and has a lot of VRAM. Though the 90 model line has only existed in GTX 6xx generation and RTX 3xxx generation and RX 6xxx generation.

    Additional Notes:

1)Ray tracing support is only available on GTX 1xxx and RTX 2xxx and 3xxx generations and RX 6xxx generation. Ray tracing on GTX 1xxx is not recommended as it the performance loss on GTX 1xxx cards is much bigger than the latest generation cards.

    Types of Graphic cards:

Now there are two types of Graphics card namely Dedicated and Integrated. The graphics listed above are all dedicated which means they are separate units from the CPU and usually are more powerful. Integrated graphics card are contained in the CPU of the computer and due to small spaces and less energy available they are much weaker. Since they consume less energy they are used mostly in laptops. Integrated Graphics are not recommended for Gaming.

    Suffixes:

Both Nvidia and AMD have different suffixes. The suffixes are:

Super: This is only for Nvidia cards and currently only exist in RTX 2xxx and GTX 16xxGeneration. They offer more performance then their normal counterparts.

TI: This is only for Nvidia cards. This offers more performance than their super counterparts. They also sometimes contain higher VRAM than super and normal counterparts.

M: This is the suffix used for laptop Dedicated GPU's. This suffix is used in GTX 9xx and RX 5xxx gpu's for laptops. These are usually weaker than their desktop counterparts. Nvidia uses different terms like Max-P and Max-Q for suffixes

Max-p and max-q: These are the new suffixes used by Nvidia for their dedicated laptop gpu that are generally weaker then their desktop counterparts.

FE: This stands for Founders Edition and is used by Nvidia to indicate graphics card manufactured by Nvidia.

OC: OC is a general term for computer hardware which means pushing the hardware beyond their limit in this case, pushing GPU's beyond their limit. By overclocking it generates a lot of heat and hence it requires better cooling. 3rd party manufacturers use this term to indicate that their GPU's are overclockable.

XT: It is an term used by AMD. Graphics card with the XT prefix offer more performance than their stand counterpart and sometimes more VRAM too. XT prefix graphics are only available in RX 5XXX and RX 6XXX generations.

    REFRESHES:

Refreshes are graphics cards which are based on the same architecture by released by the company earlier. These offer more performance than their previous counterparts but offer no new features. For example the RX 5xx series and the GTX 16XX series.

    3rd Party Manufacturers:

Many times you would have seen cards like "Gigabyte 3080" or "MSI 3080". These are 3rd party manufacturers. They generally have better cooling solutions than the FE ones. If they have OC in the name, they are overclockable. Some of the famous 3rd Party manufacturers are MSI,Gigabyte etc.

    EDIT:

    Added a prefix tab

Fixed the ray tracing tab to include that GTX 1xxx do indeed support Ray tracing.

    Made formatting a little better.

    Added a refreshes tab.

    Added 3rd party manufacturers.

    Added XT prefix.

Thank you for reading the guide.Feel free to give criticism in the comments.

Get a 10th Gen Intel CPU NOW

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 09:13 AM PDT

After the horrible launch of 11th gen the prices of the 10th gen have gone down ALOT, you can easily get a 10700K(F) for less than 280$ and an i5 10600K(F) for less than 200$, and for gamers the difference between intel CPUs and AMDs are minimal if any, the 11th gen launch in my eyes was just HUGE advertisement for 10th gen and made it incredible value ATM

And for gamers PCIe gen 4 won't matter in anyway, since not even the 3090 or the 6900xt can take full advantage of the PCIE gen 4 so it won't matter, don't take my word for it go look at benchmarks on YouTube and check the difference for your self, I'm not saying PCIe gen 4 is useless, not at all, its just not worth it from a gamer perspective.

For the record I don't care which line up of CPUs is better in general, where value is I follow, regardless of the company or the manufacturer.

Edit: For people on a budget, a couple of people mentioned in the comments that you could get an 11400(F) or a 10400(F) and pair it with a relatively cheap motherboard that allows memory overclocking like the B560 motherboards for a cheap but powerful setup

Completed my first ever PC build in the middle of a pandemic

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 09:32 AM PDT

Built my first PC last weekend and I wanted to share :) I present you, the Vermilion!

Trying to hunt down a decent video card was the biggest challenge but I managed to buy one on the release day of the Radeon RX 6700 XT since Canada Computers took backorders for it on that single day. Ideally I would've gone with the R5 5600X but it was never in stock, so I got the 5800X at retail price.

    Parts:

    • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
    • CPU cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
    • GPU: Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 6700 XT
    • RAM: Kingston HyperX 2x8GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16
    • Mobo: MSI MPG B550 GAMING PLUS
    • Storage: Samsung 970 Evo NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB + WD Blue SN550 NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB
    • PSU: Corsair CX650F 650W, 80 PLUS Bronze, Fully Modular
    • Case: MetallicGear NEO AIR ATX mid-tower

Total came to just about $2000 CAD (~$1600 USD) because I was able to buy most of the parts on sale (aside from CPU & GPU), and my school gives students a free copy of Windows 10.

    Here it is benched

    Photos of the build here!

edit: added what I named my PC

I built my first pc, thanks to this community

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 05:23 AM PDT

Phanteks p400 non-rgb (gamer's nexus did a great review and this was rated as one of the very best for air flow)

Asus Tuf Gaming B550 gaming plus (w-fi) (Another board that reviewed pretty well with thermals, but also has wi-fi, a great sound card, and has lots of fan headers)

Ryzen 5 3600 (Good value choice) which generally stays cool, so I decided to stick with the stock cooler.

Samsung 970 1TB M.2 SSD (with cache that allows it to handle large file transfers very quickly)

I also bought a Lenovo 75hz 1440p monitor for cheap.

For now I'm using an old HIM 7870 IceQ Turbo graphics card. But because of this community I learned how to refurbish it, so it runs like new. Good enough to play games such as Terminator: Resistance, Doom, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Rocket League (among others). It's a tad glitchy and non of them run on perfect settings, but you take what you can get in this market.

Thanks everyone! Now I just join in the hunt for a worthy graphics card.

Build WIP. Just something to motivate you if you need it.

    Posted: 07 Apr 2021 05:06 PM PDT

Hey everybody. The place I work at recently canceled our contract without notice. I had to pack up all of our stuff and notify the 4 people I was over that they needed to find other work in under 45 minutes. Thankfully 1 was retiring, 1 had already put in their 2 weeks and the other 2 could pick up work within our company. I, however, took my paid vacation for some much needed down time and it's been amazing. By down time I mean working outside and cleaning out the garage I use as a hobbyspace so I will be able to do things as I want as motivation is fleeting with everything the way it is.

I was exhausted when I woke up yesterday and "old me" started creeping in and telling me I should just sit on the couch and watch TV all day. As I was sitting there, about an hour in, I was still feeling bad and decided that I was going to sit in the garage. If I got motivated to do something, I'd do it. If not, oh well. 15 minutes later I'm tearing down my PC and prepping it for paint. I put on some tunes and just went for it. Mind you, I've never painted anything with a spray can but about a year ago a jayztwocents tutorial was on my recommended tab and saved it and I thought about painting my (then) new case. I'm 2 days and 4 coats in and I couldn't be happier.

    https://imgur.com/gallery/KqaDrwK

TLDR: if you don't have the motivation to do something, put yourself in an environment that encourages you to do that thing.

SSD help sata 3 or nvme

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 10:02 AM PDT

    Hello!

I ve got a pretty old PC which doesn't support M2/NVME , only SATA. It runs on a pretty old HDD and i was looking to buy a SSD for it in order to revive it while also thinking of using that SSD with my future build. (probably going to build the new pc in a year)

Should I actually invest in a good SSD (was thinking of an evo 870 500tb or 1tb) or just buy a very cheap one and get a proper nvme or high speed ssd when i'll get the new pc?

    Thanks!

    I don't think I'm on 144hz

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 09:54 AM PDT

My new monitor just arrived today, but I don't feel much of a difference. I've read from many people that the jump from 60hz to 144hz is insane but for me it's been quite underwhelming. I've set the display setting to 144hz on windows 10. My GPU is an RX 460 and it's connected to the monitor via HDMI. Any suggestions will be appreciated, thank you

    What a Motherboard name means

    Posted: 07 Apr 2021 10:35 PM PDT

I saw the post by u/AndreyRussian1 about CPU's so I made one for Motherboards. You can find the original here.

For comparisons, I'm going to be describing the title of this link so any that don't get it can reference this and the link side by side.

    Ok so Motherboards (abbreviation MOBO)

Most titles of a MOBO go as follows:

    • Brand
    • ID (referred to as chipset)
    • possible branding
    • Socket
    • Size
    • other knickknacks

    Brand

There are a lot of PC part companies. The brand is really up to preference. There isn't really a bad or good company (unless its one no one has heard of...maybe don't do that)

    ID

In this example, the ID is B450

both Intel and AMD boards have different ID's

it is normally split up by Letter, series, number, specialty:

    B|4|50|N/A

    Intel

H - No overclocking, sometimes less RAM slots, budget board (dont count these out, they sometimes are just the same as B depending on the manufacture ex. TUF H570)

    B - regular board, doesn't have overclocking,

Z (also categorized as Q,X, and P) - Overclockable board, Z is normally the one people go with for overclocking/ mainstream unless your building something crazy and need an X which is for enthusiasts.

    AMD

A - Equivalent of H, budget board, less gadgets and gizmos, not overclockable

B - regular board, HAS overclockable features, takes most CPU's, most commonly used board

X - basically like a super board, normally used for creators that need every gadget and uses them.

TR - Equivalent of X with Intel. way enthusiast and super pricey. Not really consumer and more for creators.

    Series

Nowadays there is really only 3, 4 or 5. for AMD. 3 is slowly leaving out, 4 can take almost any common AMD CPU, 5 is the newest lineup.

Intel's is super confusing so I'm just going to base it off of LGA 1155. This lineup goes 1,5,7,8.

    In full it goes,from low to high, H61, H67, B65, Q67, Z68

    Remember:

H - entry board, 6- season of board(most likely wrong about this), 1 - chip you're putting in it normally corresponding to the CPU lineup of i3,5,7,9.

Please correct me here because I think I'm wrong. Intel sometimes makes no sense here.

    Number

20 - lowest level of board, goes hand in hand with A

50 - mid tier level board, goes hand in hand with B

70 - super board, goes hand in hand with X

    Branding

By this I just mean like "Gaming" or "WIFI 6" very small things that most people don't care about unless you don't run off ethernet. YOU NEED A WIFI CARD IF YOU DON'T HAVE ETHERNET. You can use a USB wifi card as well instead of an integrated one.

    But what is ROG?

These are specific manufacturers different line ups. ROG is normally specialty while TUF is budget. For example, an ASUS ROG board with the same specifications as a TUF board will preform nearly the same but the TUF will use cheaper alternatives on their board like less design and cheaper materials. This is why a lot of ROG boards have the mostly sought after RGB that 'every gamer needs to win.'

    Socket

Every year or two there's a new socket for either Intel or AMD. In this example, we are looking at a AMD board because the socket is AM4

    Intel

Normally starts with an LGA then the #. Most recent one is LGA1200

Some of the sockets are LGA 2600. These are normally enthusiast boards...not for the normal gamers. Do not get unless you know exact specifications you need

    AMD

Normally AM then a #. Most recent one is AM4

Please use these links for AMD and Intel board lineups and comparisons.

    Size

There are a few different sizes

ITX - smallest board, great for small form factor cases but normally has less gadgets and room for stuff

MATX - Smaller version of ATX but bigger than ITX. More gadgets than ITX but less than ATX normally.

ATX - Regular sized MOBO. Great for large cases. Has a good amount of room for gadgets and such.

XL-ATX/SSI EEB - These are larger versions of the ATX that you might see

E-ATX - very large board, not really an industry standard.

    KnickKnacks

Sometimes, like on Amazon, after the name comes the KnickKnacks that it supports or comes with that are special. These are things like:

    WIFI cards

    SATA or storage speeds/types

    USB versions

Display types (HDMI or DP)(Need a CPU with integrated graphics for these to work on the MOBO)

    PCIe #(GPU transfer speed)

What processors fit inside of it

Please feel free to correct me and add to it and I will try to edit ASAP

edit: Added some fluff like LGA 2066, a small bit about ROG vs TUF, and that you can use wifi cards, Intel enthusiast and board names.

First build complete! Love at first SFF <3

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 01:20 PM PDT

Ecstatic at how my first build turned out, I finally decided to pull the trigger during the pandemic when I came to an epiphany that building a PC is really similar to gearheads and building an automobile.

It's a labor of love, learning how all the parts function, marveling at the ingenuity of man & how far engineering has come, getting down and dirty trying to orchestrate all the pieces together, and ultimately letting your machine take you to far away lands once it's complete.

Photos and videos of my baby

I wanted to build in a small form factor case since I'll be moving a lot in the next few years. S/O to my boy King for pointing me to all the right parts, staying up with me for moral support while I spent hundreds of hours trying to snag an RTX, and coaching me through Discord throughout the entire build.

    Here's the full parts list:

    Component Selection Price
    CPU Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor $209.99
    Cooler 2x Noctua NF-A12x15 PWM chromax.Black.swap $24.90
Motherboard Gigabyte B450 I AORUS PRO WIFI Mini ITX AM4 $134.98
    RAM Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 $101.64
Storage ADATA XPG GAMMIX S7 2 TB M.2-2280 NVME SSD $213.99
GPU Zotac GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB GAMING AMP Holo $779.43
Case Cooler Master MasterBox NR200P Mini ITX $108.39
PSU Corsair SF 600 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular SFX $133.45

    Total Price: $1707.77

Thanks to this subreddit and the sister buildapcsales subreddit, I felt confident going into the build and managed to not break anything. The GPU was a tight squeeze, but managed to clear the bottom fans by millimeter(s). Really happy with how cable management turned out, it was looking real bad during the scrum and the Zotac 3070 Amp Holo has a weird position for their two 8-pin connector ports. Overall, I fell in love with the process and already can't wait for the next challenge!

    Much love,

What would you expect from a £660 PC?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 07:46 AM PDT

My PC is going to cost me £660 and I'm not sure what the standard is for £660 PCs since I want to get a good bang for my buck.

I will not post the link to the PCPartPicker list since I want honest ideas and not something based off of what I have on the list.

    Noob in need of help!

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 12:08 PM PDT

I've just built my first PC and everything seemed to be in working order when I hit the power button until I looked at my monitor. Its telling me that it's not getting a signal from the PC. I've tried both displayport and HDMI in the graphics card and also HDMI in the motherboard. When connected via the displayport my monitor says to check that displayport version settings (1.4) match the connected device, which I believe they do, but I tried both the other settings just in case with no luck.

My build for reference: MSI MAG x570 Tomahawk Ryzen 5 5600x 2x 16gb Corsair Vengance RGB pro 3600 MHz Rocket Sabrent NVMe 4.0 1TB Corsair RM750X PSU Asus Tuf GTX 1650 oc 4GB GDDR6 (I know this is going to bottleneck but.. GPU market is whack)

My monitor is the LG 27GL850

Please help me! I've been sitting on my parts since August/September and finally gave up trying for a 30 series or waiting for market stabilisation only to get stuck so close to the finished product.

    Motherboard/RAM boot issues

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 11:07 AM PDT

    Hey guys,
I upgraded my pc back in November and I've been having a lot of boot issues recently and I think I've isolated it to being an issue with motherboard and RAM compatibility.
    My setup is:
    Ryzen 5 3600x
    Radeon RX 580
    Corsair Vengeance 3200mhz 16gb (2x 8gb)
    Asus prime b450m-a
The problems im experiencing consist of the fans spinning and aio screen turning on, but the motherboard doesnt beep to signify it posts.
Regarding peripherals, my mouse and keyboard get a second of rgb and then go dark. I bought a replacement motherboard but when i had it all installed the pc wouldnt turn on, not even the fans would spin, and when all plugged back into my old motherboard it would function. I assumed that the new motherboard i bought as a replacement was faulty out the box so I've set that aside to return.
I've always been aware that there was a slight compatibility issue, since when I was thinking of the upgrades I was using pcpartspicker and it was highlighted there that a BIOS update might be needed. I never updated bios until after i started having issues, but the problems still persisted. Currently I'm writing this on my pc running 3000mhz with no problems, but i havent really stressed it out with any games just yet. I'm considering replacing my motherboard with an MSI b450 or b550.Before i do i would just like to make sure that it actually is a motherboard problem before i waste more time/money.
Also, I've very recently reinstalled winows when i thought it might have something to do with that. I'm happy to provide any further information needed.
    thanks in advance.

EDIT: I've just noticed that using the program speccy, my motherboard type is listed as 'unknown' if that signifies anything

    Looking for help picking parts

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 12:10 PM PDT

I built a pc in the NZXT H1 with with a 2060super and it was great but i figured it was time to upgrade to something more powerful but still ITX.

I would like to build in the formD T1 because it works with flow through coolers (if I can ever get one). Interested in other ITX cases that support 30 series cards as well.

Its been a while since I researched computer part so I was looking for advice on the parts list bellow. I will be using it for mostly gaming so cpu strength is less of a concern for me.

    Thanks!

    PC Parts Name Guide

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 10:16 AM PDT

I am creating a naming guide for PC Parts, and so far I have only done the GPUs (huge thanks to u/dabbingboi2020 for his previously posted guide for the help, and yes I have permission). I would like to share it with you all. I will be adding CPUs tomorrow and you should be able to comment/suggest on the Google Doc so that I can catch any errors. Would love some feedback and thanks in advance :D.

    Is my CPU faulty? whea_uncorrectable_error

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 11:33 AM PDT

Yesterday I was finally able to build my PC, here are the specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x GPU: Nvidia gtx 1070 MOBO: Gigabyte Auorus x570 Ultra Ram: Crucial Ballistix 2x16gb 3600MHz cl 16 PSU: Antec HCG 620M

Everything was fine, I updated the bios, updated windows and installed chipset drivers until today when windows gave me blue screen with the whea_uncorrectable_error. First of all I tried to see if it was a Ram error, I scanned it using various Ram tests without getting any errors. I started testing the cpu using the kombustor cpu burner and exactly after I pressed "stop test" windows gave me the blue screen with that error. I tried again with the same result, as soon as I stop the stress test windows crashes. I tried to set the CPU voltage to 1.25V in the bios effectively limiting it (since it would reach even 1.4V in left in "auto"); no blue screens so far. Is it a CPU problem? Thank for you help

EDIT:Forgot to mention I tried to reinstall windows multiple times with a clean install and never overclocked (apart from the xmp for the ram).

Quick HDD to SSD Cloning Question

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 01:03 PM PDT

I'm getting an SSD to replace my HDD. I'm planning on cloning everything (including my boot drive) into my new SSD, but my HDD may have AHCI enabled. I found conflicting information saying if AHCI is enabled, then you can't clone it onto a NVME and have to use a SATA. Am I able to clone everything onto a M.2 NVME SSD or do I have to use a SATA SSD?

    Is this a good idea?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 12:49 PM PDT

So I'm a broke boi, like I'd be the poster boy for the Broke part of Broke Vs Pro. And I want to game, for the pst few months I've been using GeForce now, it's alright I get good graphics but there's something that makes me want to just get a gaming PC. After going around and looking at a bunch of prebuilds I decided I didn't want to pay $900 for what ends up being a box with lights and a laptop in it. So looked for a better option.

Then I found the Dell Optiplex 9010, and suddenly I found hope. This dell comes with a Intel i5-3570, 8Ghz of Ram, a 256GB SSD and Windows 10. For $170, I think it would work great with a GtX 1050ti. It comes out to a nice $300 which I am willing to spend.

Now what I want to know is, is it a good idea to put a 1050ti into this machine, I know for a fact I'm going to need to add some more Ram and bump it up to 16gb, but what else should I do to make this a decent gaming PC. I'm not sure how many watts the power supply has so sorry I don't have the information. At some point I want to move all that hardware to a better Case because yeah the 9010 case looks fine but y'know gaming.

The most demanding game I want to play on this would be Destiny 2, I assume it would be at low/medium settings, would this get the job done or should I keep spending 7 bucks a month for cloud gaming.

Thanks for the advice (Also yes I know that building a whole PC myself would be better but at $300 it's the best my budget can do)

Edit: I've also been provided with a option for a 9010 with a 3rd gen I7 so I'd that's better I'll go for that, since it's the same price

Changed the PSU and installed water cooling, now my pc won’t turn on

Let me know if you need other photos.

Basically I had problems with my pc and I wanted to replace PSU, while I was at it I decided to upgrade to water cooling. I go to boot up once I've plugged everything in and it doesn't start, I have no idea why. The lights on the motherboard and graphics card are on so clearly the PSU is supplying some power. Please help me I'm low-key freaking out...

Motherboard is Z270 Gaming M7 MSI PSU is Goldenfield GPG 650 full modular GPU is GTX 1080TI ROG STRIX

Solved. Thanks for the help everyone, I don't really know what to do now that's it's solved. But if you scroll down someone told me to only fill the CPU power with the 8 pins I got from the new PSU cables.

Is AMD Wraith Stealth cooler good enough for what I’ll be doing?

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 05:02 AM PDT

I've bought a Ryzen 5 3600 for my first ever build, and I don't want to spend much more money than I already have. With my PC, I will mainly be playing Warzone and Minecraft, as well as some other games, and occasionally some art apps. It will be a Ryzen 5 3600 and a GTX 1650 OC (I think 1500 MHz to 1600 MHz or something around that), as well as 4 non-PWM fans (two intake, two exhaust). Would the Wraith Stealth be good enough to keep my little processor cool for this sort of work? Thanks :)

TL;DR got R5 3600 and 1650 OC, would Wraith Stealth be good enough for Warzone, Minecraft, and some other games etc?

    Building my first PC. Ryzen 5 3400G vs Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G vs 1. i3 10100 + GTX 1050 vs i5 10400 + GTX 1030

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 12:33 PM PDT

    Hey everyone!

I'm building my first PC, budget is ~$600, but I don't live in the US, so prices are a bit higher here.

I'll be using it primarily for programing, web page design, Zoom conferences and college work (word, powerpoint, etc).

I won't be doing much gaming, but I will be doing light video editing and occasional streaming (PS4 + capture card).

Given my budget and availability of components in my country, I narrowed it down to this 4 configs.

    1. Ryzen 5 3400G (B450 mobo) -> $480
    2. Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G (A520 mobo) -> $630
    3. i3 10100f + GTX 1050 (H410 mobo) -> $660
    4. i5 10400f + GTX 1030 (H410 mobo) -> $690

    All 4 configs will have 16GB RAM (2x8 3000Mhz) and 480GB SSD.

What would be a better option considering price and future upgrades?

    Thanks!

    • MOBO doubt between the MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus, or the ASUS TUF Gaming B550-PLUS. Prices are both €135.
    • Will this RAM do? Heard about Corsair problems with Ryzen, but can't find anything regarding it. Speed and CL seems fine to me.

CPU Hitting 100C and CPU cooler cold

    Posted: 08 Apr 2021 11:58 AM PDT

My friend recently bought a used pc. Here are the specs that i remember:

Motherboard: MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon

    CPU: i9 9900KF

CPU Cooler: arctic freezer 34 esports duo

    GPU: GTX 980 Ti

    Case: NZXT (something)

By just watching Netflix and also When gaming the CPU quickly reach 100C. There isnt any dust, it is not OC or anything like that (it's just on default settings). I have removed and reapplied thermal paste with some noctua thermal paste. Made no difference. The cpu cooler is screwed tight and touches the cpu like it should.

When removing the cpu cooler i also noticed the cpu and the cooler heatpipes were wet. I dried it ofcourse but it made No difference to the temperature.

Even tho the cpu hit 100C the cooler and heatsink was cold. Like it wasnt transfering any heat.

    Pls help...

EDIT 1: in about an hour or two Ill get and install a NOCTUA NH-D15 and Ill Update This thread with the results
