Thermal paste performance after 6.5 years.

Applied thermal paste (Noctua) after 6.5 years: same CPU temperatures at the same fan speed

Just to be clear: I did not re-apply old paste, I tested the performance of paste that has been applied 6.5 years ago.

    ---

For those people who wonder how well thermal paste holds up:

I bought an Intel Core i7-4790 in mid-2014. This is a locked 4 core / 8 thread CPU with a listed TPU of 84 Watt. Base frequency: 3.60 GHz.

Under load the CPU runs at 3.80 GHz on all cores because of an all-core boost setting in the BIOS.

The CPU cooler is a Noctua NH-U12S. This is a relatively slim tower cooler with a 12 cm fan.

I used the thermal paste supplied by Noctua.

The PC has been used almost every day for both work and gaming.

After 6.5 years the CPU temperature under load is similar to the temperature when I first installed the cooler.

Some dust has accumulated in the fins of the CPU cooler, but that doesn't seem to have much effect.

The fan speed is the same.

This was not a controlled test, but it seems that the thermal paste works just as well after 6.5 years.

Tesla Model S & X come with 10 TFLOP gaming capability.

    https://www.tesla.com/modelx/design#overview

The new Tesla Model S and X have received a new update, which includes 3 screens (2 for gaming), and 10 TFLOPs of gaming power. They are advertising The Witcher 3 as being available. They also support wireless controllers.

Pretty interesting that it has the raw power of the ballpark of the next gen consoles. I'm curious as to what hardware they are using? There was a rumor a while back about Tesla partnering up with AMD...
