Does screen refresh rate actually matter? Posted: 20 Jul 2020 01:23 AM PDT I'm currently using a gaming laptop, it has a 60 hz display. Apparently that means that the frames are basically capped at 60 fps, in terms of what I can see, so like if I'm getting 120 fps in a game, I'll only be able to see 60 fps, is that correct? And also, does the screen refresh rate legitamately make a difference in reaction speed? When I use the reaction benchmark speed test, I get generally around 250ms, which is pretty slow I believe, and is that partially due to my screen? Then also aside from those 2 questions, what else does it actually affect, if anything at all? [link] [comments]
Mods, we need a sticky thread about r/buildapcforme Posted: 20 Jul 2020 10:44 AM PDT I feel like 1/4 of the posts here are people who belong on that subreddit, something should be done to make that clearer. [link] [comments]
Cheaper, used builds are way more fun and interesting than high-end systems Posted: 20 Jul 2020 09:11 AM PDT Okay, so this is my first time on this subreddit, and I am frankly unsure if this is the right place to hold this discussion, so it would be greatly appreciated if someone would direct me accordingly. So, I'm 14 right now and started getting into building systems when I was 12, almost 13. Before, I did do some builds for some family and friends, which did make me some money but I wanted to accumulate more to save up more. That's when I started watching deal hunting channels that specialize in cheap, used computer builds, such as Nerd On A Budget, Tech Yes City, and Kristofer Yee. This is when I first got into the used market and I have recently started to actually flip computers for some money. So, to get to the point, I enjoy doing these really inexpensive, used builds, as I love the thrill and enjoyment of finding a good deal on a part, and putting something together for so cheap (I just enjoy frugality in general, sometimes). I find it fun to search around on multiple sites and try to see how low I can go and just how much money could potentially be made. I think it's more fun than doing fully powerful, high-end, and expensive systems (although those are pretty cool too). Building a PC for $100 (I did one recently with i5-2400, 8GB DDR3, and GTX 660) that can game somewhat is just a good experience that I love to do and I see it as a cool challenge for myself. That being said, it can be risky as I've had a part or two that didn't work fully, but, overall, most people are honest and will sell you working parts. So, to end off this lengthy paragraph, I urge anyone that doesn't have a lot of budget to try this kind of thing out and see how it goes! [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Jul 2020 01:00 AM PDT Sorry in advance if this is not the right sub, but today morning my pc was off and suddenly the psu made a loud sound. And now my pc is not turning on. What should I do. PSU - corsair tx650 watt 80+ gold [link] [comments]

do I need more than 500 gb ssd? Posted: 20 Jul 2020 01:54 PM PDT I'm building my first pc soon and I'm using it for gaming and school work mostly. I'm thinking about getting a 500gb ssd and a 1tb Hard drive The games I play are Destiny 2, Warzone, Minecraft, LoL and some Valorant. I know the first 2 are huge in storage and I want to make sure D2, Warzone and MC are on the SSD, since I want them to load the fastest. LoL and Valorant are less heavy and I don't mind them loading on the hard drive. Will a 500gb SSD with those 3 games with Windows be too full? Meaning should I get a 1tb SSD instead? Or is putting all my other files on the hard drive okay and only keeping really important games on the SSD? [link] [comments]

Im in the mindset that I shouldn't get an AiO because it might leak. Is that stupid or valid? Posted: 20 Jul 2020 02:16 PM PDT I'm planning my first build and I'm deciding on if I should get an AiO or stick to air cooling. I really like the screen on the NZXT z73 but I'm afraid it'll leak and ruin my expensive hardware. Should I take the risk and go with AiO or stick to my gut and go with an air tower? I'm planning on getting a Ryzen 9 3900x and not overclock and I don't really care too much about noise if that helps. [link] [comments]

Will faster RAM noticeably improve gaming performance? I'm running 16GB of DDR3 1600MHz Posted: 20 Jul 2020 07:54 AM PDT I've heard RAM speed doesn't matter much for Intel chipsets, but where DDR3 1600 is so much slower than more modern RAM, I'm wondering whether upgrading to decent DDR4 would actually make a difference. Specs: i7 3770 GTX 1080 16GB DDR3 1600 RAM 2x SATA SSDs 1x PCIe NVMe SSD [link] [comments]

Posted: 20 Jul 2020 12:15 AM PDT It's 3 am and I just had this thought. If you built a pc inside if a mini fridge and got the fridge to turn on, would that be valid cooling for the pc? [link] [comments]

Very Quick Question About pcpartpicker's reccomended PC builds Posted: 20 Jul 2020 02:46 PM PDT So, I'm a noob. And I don't really know if stuff is compatible or not. So I found a nice build that's in my price range. I'd like to know if it's good or not. I should mention that I think I'll be getting a 2070 and not a 2080. Also, something that I think is important is if the case is big and upgradable. I literally don't care about appearance at all, so functionality over form please! https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/KmZxFT/enthusiast-intel-gamingstreaming-build Thank you for your time and for helping a noob like me! Posted: 20 Jul 2020 02:35 PM PDT Help finding 27 inch 1440p 144hz gaming monitor with gsync or free sync. Would like adjustable height and around $500. I play in the dark most times so black light is a concern which takes the lg850 off the list. I play solo detailed games but also fast pace games as well. I would like an incredible picture quality as I also do photo editing in spare time. If the price has to exceed $500 I'm willing to go a bit higher. Thanks [link] [comments]
I'm finally getting the parts to build a PC Posted: 20 Jul 2020 02:28 PM PDT So I'm super happy now, because it's going to be my first build. I'm going to also list the parts I'm buying I know that my parts aren't the best but I'm really just trying to dip my feet into PC gaming and I do have plans to upgrade when I'm able to afford it. Also feel free to suggest parts that I could inter change. Posted: 20 Jul 2020 02:26 PM PDT Build Help:What is your intended use for this build? This pc will primarily be used for vinyl lettering (specifically the program 'Ve Lxi Master Plus') and was trying to build a better pc because the current one we're using is a piece of garbage laptop What is your budget (ballpark is okay)? Looking primarily around $900~ before monitor/keyboard and such. The cheaper the better though In what country are you purchasing your parts? US Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). This is currently what I have selected Provide any additional details you wish below. I'm primarily looking to see if there's anything I can go cheaper with/replace since it doesn't really need to be super powerful. The program doesn't require a lot of power, but I also don't want to computer to just be slow and would like something that has no stutters just to ease workflow. Any kind of suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! [link] [comments]
Is the gts 450 ok if I mostly play lighter games? Posted: 20 Jul 2020 12:02 PM PDT Some people say that the gts 450 is bad for gaming but if I'm doing lighter/older games like Tf2, CS:GO, Roblox would it be fine? [link] [comments]
Can someone tell me if this was normal? Newish to computers. Posted: 20 Jul 2020 11:57 AM PDT So I turned on my computer for the night and loaded up Overwatch. Jumped into a game and noticed something was off. I check my frames and its maxed out at 60 fps and I usually play at a constant 144. GPU usage was only at 40-50 percent. Nothing in my settings was different. So I exit the game and notice even when on the desktop it felt off. I restarted the computer and windows then proceeded to update. After that, everything was fixed. Is this normal? Sorry if this is a long post for a dumb question 😅 [link] [comments]
Are there pc cases that are small enough to fit in a backpack while also have a full sized gpu? Posted: 20 Jul 2020 02:05 PM PDT Trying to make my pc more portable and i can't really find a case that can accommodate a full psu, full gpu, and a ryzen cooler that can also fit in a backpack. Does a case like that even exist? I am going to be traveling a bit for breaks and stuff when im not in college and my current pc is a monster it's ridiculously large full size atx case. Prefer to keep a cheap as possible have about $200 for a itx-mobo and a case which is cutting it a little close. I was looking at the cooler master evo 130 the only downside is i would need a new cooler which is not the cheapest especially since itx mobos or so expensive. [link] [comments] |
