CPU box came in crushed, no POST

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 03:37 AM PDT

Bought a new Ryzen 5800x, and it just came in the mail, and the shipping box it came in was extremely crushed. The Box for the CPU itself was a little better, but very obviously damaged.

When I first opened it up, the pins looked ok, so I put it away until I got home. Once I tried to mount the cpu, it wouldn't go in. Upon closer inspection, I could see 1 pin was very slightly bent.

After bending the pin back, I got it in the slot, but this time it wasn't POSTing. My Mobo (MSI B550i Max WiFi) was showing a DRAM fail light, which indicates bad RAM or bad CPU. I updated the BIOS from c1.40 (released before Zen 3) to v1.60 (Released last month), no change

All my hardware works with the old CPU installed, so I'm certain that it's the new CPU. Any other reccomnded troubleshooting steps before I submit a shipping insurance claim (it was purchased at Microcenter in store and sent to me)?

    My PC is ded :(

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 04:03 AM PDT

I live in South Africa, where frequent power outages are a daily problem. after a year of these outages, my PC has died. Trying parts from a friends rig, I can conclude that both my CPU and GPU are dead. I dont exactly know where to go from here, seeing as I bought my GPU second hand, and Im not sure if the retailer I bought my CPU from will cover the electrical damage.

Moral of the story: buy an inverter and surge protector :(

Daisychain SATA power for AIO CPU cooler and case RGB Lighting

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 12:45 PM PDT

Hey guys, I have a Phanteks P500A DRGB case and an NZXT Kraken X63 AIO. Both require SATA power. My PSU (Corsair RM850) comes with a SATA power cable with a bunch of SATA connectors. Can I use this single cable to power both the case RGB and the Kraken X63 (I'm assuming it's going to be powering the pump and the RGB LEDs on the pump)?

    Are these artifacts?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 12:43 PM PDT

    Images

    1. Quite old - latest stable drivers.

At first only in UE5, now I see it in other videos.

It is quite clean, I dusted recently after seeing this but it carried on.

    Cheers

    Intel 11700K Temperatures

    Posted: 06 Jun 2021 11:00 PM PDT

I have concerns regarding 11700k temps during stress test applications for my recently put together build:

Cpu Intel i7 11700k Cooler: NZXT Kraken X63 AIO cooler Mobo: Asus Z590-e gaming wifi Ram: 32GB G.Skill 3600mhz GPU: MSI Gaming Trio 3080 PSU: Corsair HX1000i Case: NZXT H710i

Although functional and performing well for its purpose: predominantly gaming, I am concerned about how high the cpu temps are when stress testing using Prime95 and Cinebench.

Using blended torture tests on Prime95 (version 30.3) CPU temp sits around 88-90 degrees celsius.

Using Cinebench R23 multi core test it sits around 80-84. On the single core tests around 58.

Its a very new to market CPU so I am finding it difficult to locate other user benchmarks regarding these applications and the 11700K temps. Are these temperatures something I should be concerned about, if so how do I go about improving them?

Note: I have resat and reapplied thermal paste, and saw a minor improvement however nothing significant. I have also checked the fan configuration and everything is blowing the right direction.

Help me build a PC for my friend

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 12:35 PM PDT

Hello, so I basically want to buy my friend the components for a PC setup, my options are a bit constrained by the fact that I want to buy the components off a serbian website so he won't have to pay customs. This is what I chose so far(I kinda copied my own setup as much as I could except for the cooler, memories and WiFi adapter which I don't know the brand of). He mostly plays games like WoW and Dota 2

    -processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6GHz

-motherboard: ASUS TUF gaming A520M-PLUS AMD

    -graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti 4GB GDDR5 128bit

-RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 16GB DDR4

-SSD: Samsung SSD 970 EVO PLUS 500GB

-Cooler: Master Cooler HYPER 212 120x120x25mm

    -WiFi adapter: TP-LINK Archer T2U Plus AC600

    +some mouse/keyboard/mic

Also, can I just buy any case? Sorry, this is my first time trying to pick the components for a PC so I might ask some really stupid questions

    3000MHz CL15 v 3200MHz CL16 - Difference for Photo and Video Editing?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 05:23 AM PDT

Looking to get 32GB (2x16GB) RAM for a PC. Most intense use will probably be photo and video editing (primarily Photoshop, but some Premiere/After Effects).

I was aiming to get the Crucial Ballistix 3200MHz CL16 or 3600MHz CL16 sticks, but a deal has come up where 3000MHz CL15 RAM is currently about £30 cheaper than the 3200MHz and £40 cheaper than the 3600MHz (although the 3200MHz was only about £10 different a month ago, so maybe it'll go down again?).

Anyway, I kinda had it in my head to get 3200MHz minimum, but will getting the 3000MHz CL15 compared with the 3200MHz CL16 make any noticeable difference?

If relevant I have the 5600X and MSI Mortar B550M mobo.

    Thank you!

PC doesn't power up after build

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 04:41 AM PDT

Hello, I have just gotten ahold of a new motherboard, RAM and a used Ryzen 3700X. I am a novice in PC building so I dont know what has happened. I have plugged everything in correctly, though when I try to power the PC up absolutely nothing happens, though sometimes when I stick my power cable into my PCU the RGB light on the motherboard lits up for half a second and then disappears. Any tips or suggestions will be very appreciated, thanks!

Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 Aorus Pro V2/AX RAM: HyperX DDR4 3200Mhz 8x2Gb CPU: Ryzen 3700X with stock cooler GPU: GTX 1080Ti PSU: Corsair TX 650W

    Is 550W enough?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 01:39 PM PDT

I have a 5900x and a gtx 1080. Pcpartpicker says that all parts together are 430W. I have a 550W PSU. Will this be good enough? I heard people say you need atleast 750w for a 5900x. But idk why they say that

What do you think about this pc build?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 01:13 PM PDT

Is there a list of external HDD that have SATA connection?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 01:07 PM PDT

    Title

Seem is getting harder each day to find internal 2,5'' HDD and seem the few I find are more expensive than the external, most of them are SSD. I know that some brands use a scolded PCB but other have a SATA connection

I want it for a mini PC where I already have a cool SSD that literally flies, so I want a cheap mechanical disk.

Planning to get a new cooling system

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 01:07 PM PDT

I currently have a Ryzen 5 3600XT running on stock cooler, and it gets a bit hot some times. I was wondering of it's better to get a good air cpu cooler or a AIO liquid cooler (I'm really new to this field)

I'd like to spend under 100$, so if you could tell me which cooling solution will give me the best results under that price, I'd really appreciate it (of you can recommend any specific model, I'd be great too)

Do I need additional cooling if my base comes with fans?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 12:20 PM PDT

THERE'S NO NEED TO ACTUALLY READ PAST THE TITLE. THIS ↓ IS JUST ME RAMBLING.

Hi, I'm literally brand new at this. In all honesty, I probably won't actually build a PC. I'm just curious how the whole process works. Assuming that I'm not running any games that are super power-intensive, I'm wondering if liquid cooling or any additional fans are necessary.

Total noob first time building. I put all parts in pcpartpicker and there's no incompatibilities, but I'd appreciate any advice for things to look for and/or if I'm missing something. Also do I need Corsair commander pro to run 6 QL120 fans or is Lightning Node Core enough?

I built a PC within MSRP (with a graphics card), felt like an achievement!

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 10:05 AM PDT

It's my first time ever building a PC and with the chip shortage I didn't think I would be able to build a PC that I wanted to build without paying scalper prices but after weeks of waiting, tons of notifications setup I finally did it. It took me about 1.5 months to order the compatible parts and have them come in. Also, out of sheer luck I managed to grab a RTX 3060 from a retailer on the same day I went to pick up my case (what a coincidence!).

    Here's my build:

    1. AMD Ryzen 7 5800x
    2. ASUS ROG strix x570-e
    3. EVGA RTX 3060 12GB
    4. Corsair 3600Mhz 32 GB RAM (RAM prices are a bit high but that's okay)
    5. Arctic Freezer 2 280
    6. Samsung 980 1 TB NVme
    7. Fractal design meshify 2 case

Not sure if this is the right place, but what are the requirements to leave a pc on overnight because on the weekend I have a long gaming session 8-12 hours, sleep for 8 or so hours and continue to game after that for another 8-12 hours.

    Posted: 07 Jun 2021 12:15 PM PDT

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I want my PC to have a long lifespan. It also is a new pc.
