Can anybody help explain the difference between HDR RGB 4:4:4 10/12bit respectively

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 08:22 PM PDT

I've been looking into getting a new tv/monitor and have been diving deep into specs that i've never worried about before (i'm relatively young) and was wondering if somebody could help explain the difference between these.

Additionally what are the capabilities of display port 2.0 with the above qualifications. Will DSC 1.2 allow for a DP2.0 device to support the above at 4k/240. I've been trying to read into all the technical details over the last few days

    Upgrading from a G4560

    Posted: 21 Jul 2020 01:53 AM PDT

I was checking some parts prices when I stumbled upon the I3 9100F which was surprisingly affordable. My current specs are G4560, GTX 1050 2GB and 8GB of RAM, so most of the time the CPU is the bottle neck.

True, I'll have to get a new Mobo, but it really seems like a good deal, I wanted to know what you guys think and if it's an upgrade that's worth it ?

How different are Samsung and TSMC's HPC and low-power libraries from each other, and how does this tie into NVIDIA Ampere rumours?

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 02:43 AM PDT

Given how much back and forth chatter there's been about NVIDIA Ampere potentially being on Samsung 7nm EUV/8nm or TSMC N7P or N7+ for Geforce/Quadro cards, I feel like this is question worth asking for posterity's sake.

While there have been many GPU generations utilising multiple silicon nodes - even from both manufacturers in the case of Pascal - and even different architectures through the product stack, this is the first time I can recall where it's been suggested a company will just switch their entire architecture from one fab's process to another's on the fly.

How difficult - and thus how expensive - is this to do in practice?

Away from that, assuming that there is a split in the product stack between the two fab companies, would the cutoff be similar to Pascal, or could there be such a cost discrepancy that a 3060 chip could be made by Samsung despite the known disadvantages?

Surely the planning required to facilitate this would have to been done over a year ago, and in the case of Samsung 7nm EUV vs TSMC 7nm, surely NVIDIA wouldn't be so arrogant as to put anything more than a 3050 series equivalent (and lower) on such a process?

Chasing the price-performance crown on Samsung's storied low yields for EUV seems like a disaster-in-waiting for mid-to-high tier segments, let alone punching it out on what would appear to be a make-shift 10nm refinement.

Using integrated graphics of an APU in combination with a dedicated GPU...

    Posted: 20 Jul 2020 09:14 AM PDT

    Alright, here it goes.

First: I have not built my own computer (though I definitely intend on) but I do have a fair understanding of all the components inside of a PC.

My question is as follows: A PC is built with (per example) an Athlon 3000g (2 core; 4 thread APU) as well as an (per example again) RX 580. To my knowledge, regardless of the extent, the above mentioned system is bottlenecked by the APU/CPU (If not, replace the RX 580 with a RTX 2080 TI).

I was wondering if it is:

A)Possible to "dedicate" a portion of the CPU's load to the iGPU. For instance, have the iGPU on the APU "handle" the Anti-Aliasing (MLAA)? ONLY the Anti-Aliasing.

    And...

    B) Regardless of whether or not it's possible, how much of a difference you all think it would make in overall performance?

This is just a thought I had the other day and I would love to hear your opinions!

    Many thanks!

    Intel 2008 X58 + RX Vega 64 - Kana's FineWine Edition Review

    https://overclock-then-game.com/index.php/benchmarks/21-vega-64-2020-x58-review-kana-s-finewine-edition

I finally got my hands on a RX Vega 64 LC to replace my R9 Fury X. I have benched the Radeon RX Vega 64 LC against 18 different games at multiple resolutions. This article includes roughly 64 individual benchmarks.

Let me know what you guys think about the awesome Intel X58 gaming performance 12 years later in 2020. Obviously, I'm limited to PCIe 2.0, but limitation has never stopped me from benchmarking and testing anything for the past 7 years so here we go again.

I have also included my Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus 4K gamplay as well as my Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (Cemu) 4K gameplay.

I had no luck with the Radeon VII so I had to return it. It seems to work on Windows 7, but not Windows 10 and I don't feel like wasting more time with the Radeon VII right now since Navi is around the corner.

LONG LIVE INTEL X58 & RX VEGA 64!!!
