Apple MacBook Pro 2016+ with touchbar 15” Flexgate/stage light lawsuit

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 04:15 PM PDT

Hello! I'm posting here to make light of the flexgate and stage light issues on the 15" 2016+ MacBook Pro's. I found an article with a lawsuit(again) but this one actually includes the 15" Pros! I've called the Parris Law Firm to confirm the information and have decided to be apart of it. It does not cost either. They asked questions like when did the problem start, did I buy the item new, did I purchase apple care, the amount Apple wants to fix it, OR have I fixed it. They are trying to help find a solution and fix similar to the 13" and also recuperating the loses of people who paid almost 1k to fix it.

For the people that don't know, this problem was fixed in the 2018+ models. They added a longer cord so it's less stress with opening it. Apple care has now needed on the 2016 models and will be ending for the 2017 models this year- the only fix is a $795 repair and a 90 day warranty after that on a laptop that is VERY expensive.

I've attached the link to the lawsuit and they've gotten people from about 10 states and want more people to speak up. Please speak up if this has happened to you. I know everyone's situation is different especially financially but these products are premium and very expensive. Just like they fixed the keyboard, they need to fix this screen. Especially if they addressed it In the 13" and they use the same connector.

If certain programs like game simulators (Cities Skylines, Civ VI, etc.) need high CPU clock frequencies to perform best, are future versions of these programs doomed to largely stagnated frequencies?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 06:02 PM PDT

As we all know, CPU clock frequencies have largely peaked around the 5GHz range. For years they've sat from 4-5.3GHz or so as CPU architectures, additional cores, and other refinements took place.

Yet some programs like certain game simulators (Cities Skylines) and 4X games (Civilizations VI) really need high frequency CPUs to improve simulation speeds and raw throughput of actors (number of vehicles on the road, characters walking on the streets, number of active buildings, etc.).

Are future versions of these games doomed to certain thresholds of these actor counts given that it's unlikely we'll see a significant rise of clock frequencies anytime in the next decade (or ever)? Or will simulations find another way around clock frequency limitations (massive IPC increases perhaps?) for areas they've historically needed it for?

Put it another way, if Cities Skylines could perform the same with 100,000 actors on screen at 10GHz as 50,000 at 5GHz (I know it's not this simple of a linear view), can that same performance threshold be achieved another way if we're forever limited to say... 5.3GHz for the foreseeable future?

Seeing a lot of hate regarding rumours that 3080 / 3080ti VRAM May be 11GB / 12GB. However I haven’t noticed 4K gaming to come close to fully utilising this much. Is this still not enough VRAM?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2020 04:12 AM PDT

Currently gaming on 4K and 3440x1440 and on a 1080ti don't come close to using more than 2/3 my VRAM 11gb. Why are we demanding more? Are newer textures expected to use more? Or something else? Thanks.
