Posted: 24 Jun 2020 01:26 PM PDT I began my journey 8 years ago watching people play the newly released CS:GO after my 12th birthday. I knew right then I wanted to build a computer. So, fast forward 8 years, I am about to turn 20 in a month, and I decided now was the time to finally do it. I finally am truly apart of the PC Master Race. This is gonna be a wonderful ride and absolute hell on my wallet. Cheers! P.S. Does running a youtube video while playing game at the same time decrease your performance? Posted: 24 Jun 2020 05:23 AM PDT I mean, obviously the answer is yes, but to what extend? I usually have lots of youtube video pages opened in my chrome tab that I will get to while I game, and I would listen to a youtube video while half watching it on the 2nd monitor while I game on the main monitor. How much impact do these habits have on my gaming performance (fps, frametime / stuttering)? Am I decreasing my GPU or CPU performance in any meaningful way by doing these while I game? I play very gpu/cpu heavy titles like bf5, I have a 3900x (upgraded from a 3600 to hopefully fix my bf5 stuttering issue, only improved by a little bit), 1660 ti and 16 gb 3200mhz rams (about to be 32 gb rams). Installing Windows 10 on new build getting blue screen of death Posted: 24 Jun 2020 08:09 AM PDT Hi, I've just built my first PC and the BIOS seems to work fine and it recognizes everything. Parts List
Error Description So, I've got into BIOS and configured my USB as my bootable drive. I'm using an exFAT formatted USB with the Windows 10 iso. I had to install it from a Mac, since that's all I own. But going to a friend's to use their PC to format in NTFS or FAT32. But Windows 10 iso is over 4GB, which is why I used exFAT. My system recognizes the USB as bootable, tries to load it up, and then just meets me with a Blue Screen of Death, error varies, but STOP CODE: CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED is one of them. Any ideas on what's failed? Is it the hardware? Or just Windows and the exFAT format? Thanks for all the help! Solution I am not a smart man, and needed to update my BIOS. [link] [comments] |
Thank you buildapc and Cooler Master! Posted: 24 Jun 2020 02:24 PM PDT Last year around Christmas, buildapc hosted an Extra Life charity stream on Twitch in collaboration with Cooler Master. There were a bunch of items given away throughout the stream, and I ended up winning a cooler! After the winners were announced, I wasn't contacted by buildapc or Cooler Master to claim my prize. I messaged a buildapc admin who collected my shipping info, but I never heard anything else of it. I figured it would arrive at some point.. It didn't. I left another admin mail and it was never responded to. I was pretty disappointed. As a final attempt, almost six months after the charity stream, I contacted Cooler Master directly. I explained the issue to them, and they said they were looking into it. A few weeks went by and suddenly I got a UPS tracking number in my inbox! I was thrilled. When the box arrived, I was shocked-- why send such a big box for just an AIO? To my surprise, Cooler Master had sent me a whole bunch of goodies including a mouse, earbuds, a bunch of swag, and of course, the AIO! (https://imgur.com/rOkK3fL) Overall, while it did take quite a long time to arrive, I'm so thankful that they handled my situation swiftly and I can't thank them enough for going above and beyond. Thank you buildapc and Cooler Master! [link] [comments] |
Don't make the same mistake I made 2 years ago !! Posted: 24 Jun 2020 01:01 AM PDT Almost 2 years ago, I built my first pc, and since this day, I made a big mistake, here's my story, so you don't make the same. Also sorry for bad English ! So 2 years I built a PC, and was very happy about it. Was just to play some time, not a very powerful pc, with a i5-7600k, a 980 ti, and 8go 2166mhz. One day, I learned about overclocking, and I did so with my CPU. Everything was running well at 4.2Ghz (base 3.8Ghz) and I was not having any thermal issue or so. Some time later, I got interested in high level gaming, especially in rainbow six siege. I was able to have full 60fps, as my monitor was only a 60hz display. It was running pretty smooth, a bit of stuttering, but I blamed my monitor, for the low frame rate. After a while playing on this monitor, I decided to buy a 144hz display, as it fitted better my style of gaming, because I needed more frames (as most of you know the importance of high frame rate and low latency). Sadly, my graphics card died, and I was able to play on a GTX 680, so I was playing r6 in the lowest settings, but was still able to get around 110fps, with some stuttering. This time, I blamed my graphics card, as it wasn't powerful enough to get a smooth gaming experience. A few days ago, I bought a GTX 1080, and I got back on high quality, high speed competitive gaming, and everything was kinda smooth, was happy about it. But there was still a bit a stuttering. I launched one of my favorite title, DOOM 2016, to see how many frames I was getting with this new card. And what a surprise, and not in the right way ! While I was getting around 250fps on r6, I was getting only 70-80fps on low settings, with A LOT of stuttering. Pretty graphic intensive game you would say. But not with a little beast like the 1080. So I turned on a setting, which was giving me information on the performance of the CPU, gpu, and the frame times I was getting. Turns out my CPU was having like a jump every 2-3 sec, having a huge stutter spike... (I was also having a lot more stuttering on no man's sky, and it was unplayable, even though I had a good card.) I looked on the internet to find if I was the only one with this issue on this CPU, and I was a bit disappointed I found nothing on the subject, only some of them saying the CPU was bottlenecking. Some of them said it was an older bios, too old to handle the CPU. I updated the bios, nothing happened. I came on a website saying it was the result of bad overclocking. So I made my test, downclocked my CPU to its factory settings, and surprise !! I was not only getting a smooth and stutter free gaming experience, but I jumped from 80fps on low settings, to around 170-200fps on highest settings ! (Game engine capped at 200fps) In conclusion, all this time, since I overclocked my CPU, I was running into stutter issues, and all this time, it was because I did a bad overclock... Guys, if you want a smooth experience out of the box, right after your build, don't overclock your CPU like I did, or get a good overclock guide on your specific CPU, to get the best out of it. Don't be attracted by the "high GHz", the best being lower GHz, but your CPU being a lot more stable, and smoother framerates. Wish this thread will help some of you in the near future for your builds. Happy building, and stay cool. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jun 2020 12:37 PM PDT It's probably the biggest meme in this "pc building community" if that's even a thing, but I just want to know, is it really so wrong? I know it gets memed a lot because people overdo it, but is having rgb on your ram really so great a sin? You know what? I do want all my peripherals to glow all the colors of the rainbow, and yeah, I do want to see inside my PC, all the bits and bobs do look cooler glowing violently red. I ask of you, is it all that bad to have a little fun? [link] [comments] |

Why not just use a TV instead of a “gaming monitor?” Posted: 24 Jun 2020 12:58 PM PDT So I've been looking through 1440P 144hz gaming monitors and prices are wild and way out of my budget. Meanwhile, there are "comparable" TVs for nearly half the price. So why not just buy a TV, what are the perks of a certified "gaming monitor?" And an add on to this question, if I did purchase an actual computer monitor for my main screen, would a TV work as a second monitor? Edit: I do think I'll purchase a monitor in the near future, but I'll probably just use my TV in the meantime while I save up for a decent one. [link] [comments] |

Need help with swapping my HDD after purchasing a new SSD! Please help this noob Posted: 24 Jun 2020 12:31 PM PDT I currently have a Dell XPS-15 (9570), which came with a 1TB HDD. I purchased a 1 TB 970 Evo SSD, but am unsure of how to go about the next steps. I've watched several youtube videos on xps upgrades, but they are usually from SSD to SSD. In this case I am currently cloning my HDD to the SSD, and I've created a USB to install win.10 in case it goes sideways. Questions are: Am I able to change the boot priority for the computer to use the SSD without removing the HDD? Can I then use the HDD as additional storage? Any help would go a long way! Thank you! Need Help Choosing Motherboard (1st Builder = Clueless) Posted: 24 Jun 2020 01:33 PM PDT I just need help, how much help, well to me a lot. I'm building my first PC and I'm super excited about it. I haven't stopped looking at videos, sales pages, guides everything. But one thing that has really stumped me is the motherboard, I need help choosing one for my system. Background, I'll probably be using this for gaming and school (business major). The games I primarily play are COD, Red Dead 2, LOL, and hoping to get into some valorant. I'm hoping to run them at high settings, preferably 1440p and upwards of 144hz if possible. I don't know if that'll help but that's all the info I have. Below I've attached my current build, I already started buying starting with the SSD. What my biggest concern is that I've heard a lot of different people tell me different things about motherboards so right now I am unsure of what to get. I understand that the B450 sometimes needs to be updated for the 3000 series Ryzen chips, but I also heard that the X570 is overkill for my system. I don't know what to choose, and even after choosing between the X570 or the B450 I don't know which company to pick and which model. Anythings helps, and if you got this far thanks for bearing with me. Any bottlenecks in the build that you see? I will be buying a 2080 super and M.2 ssd next week. I have an ASUS VG27AQ and OD11 case already purchased. I've been lurking and I've seen how much insight the community has so I decided to give it a go. My question is simple, I'm buying a recently built pc online from someone and they are asking for $900. Below are the specs , I'm thinking It's worth the trip but I'm not a pc building guru. Worst pc problem ever happend in history Posted: 24 Jun 2020 01:07 PM PDT I wouldn't actually ask about my problem here but I'm just interested in opinions if someone has some thoughts. However 5 weeks ago my pc while I was playing Gwent litteraly just shutted down. For the first moment I thought that I might have pluged out power cable or there was power shortage or something, but everything was connected propertly.I tried to turn on my pc but it was not turning on so I assumed that my PSU or Motherboard have died although there was an light diode ligting on GPU.Since I bought every component except GPU and RAM memory in store and I still had a guarantee I sent my pc to get fixed...Guy told me that it is a motherboard that died and they are gonna fix it.After two weeks my pc was ready and I thought the failure has been repaired. However day and half after BoOoom the same shit happens, this time i couldn't turn it on after I woke up...So I sent it to repair again and waited for 3 weeks, but now they gave a me new motherboard and not even an hour booom again the same shit... My conclusion is that some component is causing motherboard to die but I don't know which one, because it works normally for few hours and then problem occurs... It would be easy to ask for a new pc if I bought it already completed but I can't since GPU and rams were already mine. I don't really know what to do,this was not an cheap pc so I can't just say that I don't care about it, but ofc I would like to find a fix for it. I was thinking to sell my components to other people and buy a new pc with that money [link] [comments] |

Will this processor run Modern Warfare well? Posted: 24 Jun 2020 02:24 PM PDT |
Posted: 24 Jun 2020 02:23 PM PDT Good day fellas, I am currently looking to upgrade my gaming rig. As of now I run an Asus Rog Strix GTX 1080 OC Edition along with an Intel i7 7700 cooled by a Cryorig R1 Ultimate. Currently having Corsair Vengeance 16gb Memory. Running on a MSI gaming motherboard M3 something. This Rig allowed me to play every game on ultra with 120-140fps (on 1080p) and will probably still be quite good for a few years but since i finished school and I'm going to work, I could afford an upgrade. I thought about changing to an AMD Ryzen 9 3900x (or maybe a 3950x) along with a RTX 2080ti. Obviously I would have to buy a new Motherboard too, would upgrade to a radiator for the CPU and 32gb memory. What do yall say? Wich CPU is better (not only for gaming but in general) and should I wait for the new Nvidia cards to come out? Any advice is appreciated. [link] [comments] |

I don't want to purchase Windows 10 again and I am not sure if I can just plug in my drives and it will boot or what I need to do. Please help if you can. [link] [comments] |
