So I hopped on this sub posting an outdated build and I got laughed on by many of you which is okay.

I wanted to build the best PC to edit videos on in the $700-$800 range keeping it as small factor as possible. After a lot of discussion with many of you, I settled for a mini itx build with a Silverstone SG13 case and an Asus Prime A320 chipset. A redditor who saw my post and was kind enough hit me up and explained that an A320 chipset is worthless with a Ryzen 5 2600 because it might not be compatible out of the box and I wont be able to overclock the CPU. It also does not have internal wify and so on.

At first he offered that he sends me a 140mm fan because he has many lying around which I happily accepted, and the next week he shipped it and casually mentioned that he included an Asrock Fatality AB350 mini itx motherboard. Not only has this saved me money but also time. A lot of it. NGL, I was a bit sceptical that he's trolling or whatnot, because you know, it's Reddit, but what do you know, the mobo arrived and there it was, with a kind note. It was open, sure, but it looked legit, and I couldn't believe that he actually did it until I plugged all the parts and booted it up and it worked fine.

The $200 that he saved me allowed me to invest in a low-profile fan, better GPU and better RAM (was gonna go for the 8gb) and a few other accessories such as VGA to HDMI adaptor and instead of finishing the build by early July, I finished it just yesterday. That'show much that kind gesture helped.

    Without the PSU https://imgur.com/LIt43QX

    With the PSU https://imgur.com/nz007wO

So this is the final build with the expenses

    Model Price
    AMD Ryzen 5 2600 3.4 GHz 6-Core Processor $129
Asrock Fatality AB350- MINI ITX $200
    Crucial 16 GB (1 x 16 GB) DDR4-3000mhz Memory $98
Western Digital Blue 500 GB 2.5" Solid State DriveToshiba 500 GB 2.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive (previously owned) $74
    Samsung MZ-NLN2560 240gb (secondhand) $40
    GTX 1650S Pegasus 4GB DDR6 $200
Silverstone SG13 Mini ITX Tower Case $54
    Noctua NH-L9i 33.84 CFM CPU Cooler $82
Silverstone Strider Essential 650 W 80+ Certified ATX Power $50
    HDMI TO VGA adapter $26
    Total $954
    How much I spent ± $690

After installing Windows and playing a few games, I WAS LITERALLY BLOWN THE F*** AWAY AT HOW GOOD THIS THING IS. Going from my y-year old laptop to this one BEAST of a unit is one of the best experiences in my life. This is gonna sound silly, but playing Battlefield 3 and CSGO in 60fps was a dream I would never have actualised in the past, but now, they run at 120fps minimum with ULTRA settings! These are the temperatures when it is running Battlefield 3.

I know the game is not much and the temperatures are not the best, but I was told that 80C°for Ryzen processor is just another day at work and. When idle, the temperatures are much better, around 70C°.

Now I am installing Adobe Premiere Pro and I have a haunch it is going to crash in the middle of work like my old laptop did . Trauma I am sure I wont be able to break away from soon (jk). Like Im literally still trying to comprehend that I own this PC.

Thank you all for the help . This has been one hellova ride I will never forget.

Edit: even when celebrating this build, you guys keep giving me valuable advice. Thanks again.

I'm swapping the noctua low profile CPU fan with an Arctic Liquid Freezer 120mm, thus removing the front 140mm fan. I can't afford an XFX PSU unfortunately.

I'm using a 3000mhz 16gb ram at the moment because I'm not gonna put the pc through anything serious, just catching up on outdated games, think ASC unity, battlefield 1 and 5...etc and 1080p adobe premiere and after effects editing. Later when I start editing in 4k, I'll get another 16gb 3000mhz with an SSD 1TB and unleash the full potential of the build. But for the time being, it's more than enough

Found my NewEgg invoice from 2001 from my first build. All with the monitor I think it was close to $1100. You'll see the AMD T-Bird 1.4 GHz, The 64MB Radeon, and the 1.44 floppy drive baby.

3200g is fantastic. Highly recommended for cheap builds.

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 03:05 AM PDT

Like many stuck at home I've built my first PC during the lockdown. Thanks to the threat of redundancy (now hopefully gone) I stuck to a budget of £400 ($500) and figured I could get a decent workstation that could handle some RTS games.

The Ryzen 3200g was £70 and it's fucking amazing. I've been playing through Journey to the Savage Planet on medium settings and it looks great. I'd written off integrated graphics but I think AMD have really cracked it for the casual gamer market.

Full build was: B450 AMD Prime motherboard 16gb 3000 ram Bunch of SSD's I had from an old laptop Gamemax Panda case for £30. Good Corsair power supply.

Total was about £381 so £420 if you buy an SSD.

Installed a new hard drive with a new SATA cable, but it isn't showing up on my PC

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 03:49 AM PDT

I've got 3 hard drives installed, a normal SSD and an M.2 SSD. I connected the sata cable to my motherboard, gave it power with my PSU but my 4th hard drive is not showing up in disk management or in my BIOS (Z390 AORUS pro motherboard)

I've tried 5 different sata cables but it still wouldn't work. Is there a setting i like need to enable in my BIOS?

Choosing between EVGA 600w 80+Bronze or Corsair CX650M? Budget Build.

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 01:17 PM PDT

To start off im new to pc gaming and this will be my first build. Still trying to learn everything I can. I have this part list I put together here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ddbHTC

I would like to keep it around that $725 mark. The only problem I'm having is choosing a power supply since this is an area of pc building that still confuses me. Can I get some help choosing between these two options?

Complete noob here. Never built a PC but I want to build a 4k gaming PC, what should I expect?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 01:12 PM PDT

I don't have any peripherals either, but was thinking of going with a smaller 4k tv because of the price difference.

How much would it cost to build such a thing? I want to be able to play AAA games on 4k 60fps but don't need to be at the highest of high settings. How much should I expect to pay? I'm patient I can wait the whole year for a good deal on parts. My budget is flexible.

Case fan running @125% rated speed because of... a fan bracket?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 11:20 AM PDT

Pre-story: when I moved my system in a new case I was greeted with bad graphics card temperatures, which I got fixed by crudely taping a fan to the case. It was not meant to be a long term solution so I found and ordered a fan bracket which let me secure the fan to the case properly. Today it came in and I installed it along with the fan.

I immediately noticed the BIOS reporting the fan spinning at 1000 RPM, 125% of its rated spec of 800 RPM. I knew for a fact it didn't behave this way before and I knew the reported speed was true as the fan took significantly longer to stop after shutdown than the other identical fan.

I made a post here but got no reply, so I decided I'd rather troubleshoot it myself. I then:

    1) Tried every fan header, same 125% speed

    2) Used a 9V low-noise adapter which lowered the speed to 850 RPM (as expected)

    3) Swapped the headers of the two identical fans which still resulted in the intake fan spinning at 800 RPM and the bracket-mounted fan at 1000RPM, despite switching headers.

    Picture for reference

Result of troubleshooting: So I thought maybe my fan overclocked itself, and I thought it would be a good idea to swap the fans so that the faster fan works as an intake. Ideal, I thought. So I did that.

Well I swapped the fans and now the "normal" 800 RPM fan spins at 1000 RPM and the "overclocked fan" is back to normal 800 RPM when mounted as intake.

Question: Why does this happen? The fan bracket is a not particularly restrictive hunk of metal. If anyone knows the reason behind this weird behaviour I would appreciate it.

If your gpu's hot, it might not be bad airflow

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 10:05 AM PDT

I have a Gigabyte 1080 that always seemed to run at 82c no matter what. I always thought my case had bad airflow... but it was just bad thermal paste.

I cracked my 1080 open, and what do I find? The thermal pad on the vrms wasn't applied correctly. It's a wonder it didn't die from that after a few years of abuse.

So don't be like me and live with loud gpu fans.

I used a leftover piece of thermal pad from Amazon and some Noctua NT-H1 thermal paste for replacements.

Testing again with stock settings, my gpu temp was around 70c and boosting a little higher. Forgot by how much.

Then after doing a nice undervolt + overclock, it's sitting at 60-65c, 1950MHz, and 900mV. A huge improvement over 82c, 1750MHz, and 1025mV with loud fans.

New stick of ram not posting but name shows up in BIOS

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 02:01 PM PDT

Today I bought a Kingston HyperX Predator Black DDR4 8Gb 3000mhz ram, identical to my previous one to enable dual channel. When they are both installed the computer restarts quickly a few times and sometimes boots, the additional 8gb never counts but I can see the name of my ram recognized by BIOS in slot B_2When only the new RAM is in A_2 I can never post, DIMM light stays on, no display, I don't seem to have a RAM OK button either.

I tried resetting BIOS settings and flushing it by unplugging both power and the battery multiple times.

I tried different slots.I also updated my BIOS to the latest version, I guess my boot times improved quite nicely but didn't help with the issue.

Should I try and replace the stick, did I miss something obvious?

Building first PC - Any feedback?

After using my crappy prebuilt for over 6 years, I'm finally building my own PC. My budget is up to $1100 CAD (I already have a GTX 1070 that I added to my prebuilt which I plan on using in this build for now). I don't plan on overclocking unless there's a bit of room for it.

I slapped this part list together, but I'm worried I'm missing something or have incompatible parts. What do you think?

    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/

Question 1:is buying used rx580 and selling later to buy ampere a good idea?

Question 2 : The PSU is to be ready for ampere. Will it be enough then and will it damage my rig while using rx580 for now?

Newly built, no display, help me :(

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 06:45 AM PDT

Hi, it's another "I built a new PC and it doesn't work" post, sorry.

    ASUS Prime b450 plus

    AMD Ryzen 5 3600

    Nvidia Geforce 1600S

    2x8GB 3200Mhz Corsair Vengeance

I power on the computer, and everything looks fine internally. No error beeps, no obvious error lights, all fans spinning, it doesn't power itself down.

Only obvious problem is... absolutely no output to the monitors.

I've tried multiple monitors, multiple cables, both hdmi and displayport, plugged into graphics card and mobo... nothing.

CPU/EPS plugged in, PCIe plugged in, graphics card seated properly. Cpu cooler spinning, gpu fan spinning.

All I can think of is the BIOS incompatibility but the mobo box does say 3000 ready and I got it from Amazon (new-ish stock?) so I'm just out of ideas and so frustrated and tired honestly.

Thanks to anyone with any ideas :)
