My brother was impatient and opened the cpu box without me and left the cpu fan as is. The thermal paste is smudged and has green stuff all over the thermal paste (mold?) Is it still safe to use or do i have to get new thermal paste?

PC Gaming Build first time - ~1100 budget - what's overkill, and what needs an upgrade?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 12:24 PM PDT

Like the title says, looking for something middle of the road that can be upgraded in the future. Not looking to do any overclocking, but streaming would be cool. Games would include FPS and definitely Bannerlord

I’m a noob at PCs and need help

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 11:04 AM PDT

So, I was in the middle of playing a game when all of a sudden my PC decided to turn off and restart, I said okay whatever, it turns on and couple second later the pc stays on but doesn't show any signal to the monitor. And now there are 4 red lights on the motherboard, two red lights stay on the most is the VGA light and the BOOT light, I bought this prebuilt pc 5 months ago and I honestly didn't believe I would have an issue with it,

Here's a link to what I bought so you can look at the specs

    https://www.bestbuy.com/site/cyberpowerpc-gaming-desktop-amd-ryzen-7-3700x-16gb-memory-amd-radeon-rx-5700-xt-2tb-hdd-240gb-ssd-black/6362428.p?skuId=6362428

I've done enough research to know where most things in pc are, I just need guidance

I have a prebuilt omen obelisk and want to upgrade the GPU. Since I've only had a prebuilt I'm clueless when it comes to choosing the right parts and compatibility and what not

This is the card I want (or something similar) my question is will this fit/work in the Obelisk case?

    DDR4-3600 and CPU-Z

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 09:21 AM PDT

Good Afternoon everyone! I hope everyone is staying safe!

I just purchased a custom built PC from Microcenter that has 32G of DDR4-3600 in it.

However, when I load up CPU-Z this is what what I see under the Memory tab:

    https://imgur.com/a/Y6SgSgF

I know that DDR is Double Data Rate so the 1800Mhz I see here x2 = 3600.

However, when I got to the SPD tab I see this:

    https://imgur.com/a/8LwfkvH

I looked in the BIOS and see this for DRAM:

    https://imgur.com/a/dIRMQyG

I just want to make sure I am running at the 3600.

    Specs:

    Specs:

MOBO: ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming S/AC

    CPU: i7 - 9700KF

    RAM: 32GB DDR4-3600

    GPU: Zotac 2070 Super

    TIA everyone!

im replacing my htpc mobo and need help/advice.

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 12:58 PM PDT

soo my old board broke :( . it wont get power and i think somehow i broke the 24 pin connector bc/ it will turn on/off if i wiggle the 24 pin a bit (all other components were tested so it is definitely the mobo.

what i need help with: either im going to get a x370 or x470 or b450 board. but it has to be itx. i found a really good deal on asus rog x370 itx board, but it doesnt have hdmi out (im using integrated graphics on my r3 2200g). is usb to hdmi as viable option for 1080p 60hz? or would it just be better to get a b450/x470 board (because all of the 2nd gen ryzen boards have hdmi out on the mobo).

    thanks :)

Monitor recommendation for dual-monitor, 80% work / 20% gaming setup?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 12:58 PM PDT

I've built myself a PC having a GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER which I use to play mostly RPGs, strategy and racing games (AC, Civ, NFS). This amounts to, say, 20% of my screen time. The remaining 80% of my screen time I spend working (software engineering) both on said PC and on a MacBook Pro 2019 (using the same monitor by switching the input).

This monitor is an LG 27UL850, which I bought some time ago and with which I am very happy (although it's only 60Hz). I'd like to buy a second monitor to complement this one, but I don't know if I should get a second LG 27UL850 (they have a very thin bezel, must look awesome next to one another) or if I should try looking into the 144Hz range. Will 144Hz make all that much difference in those 80% of the time I'll spend working, or will I only notice an improvement in the other 20%? If it does, does anyone have any recommendations (~€500)?

BIOS won’t overclock CPU and RAM

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 02:49 PM PDT

Built my PC a couple months ago and right out the box I was able to OC my CPU and Ram to 4.0MHz and 3200MHz on XMP profile 2. Yesterday I updated the bios on my MB and had to redo my bios settings. I used the same settings I had before but when I booted up my PC and opened CPUID it showed my system running at 3.7MHz and 1333MHz. I've tried different clock speeds and frequency's but they still don't work. I also have the voltages set to 1.325V for the CPU and 1.35V for my Ram.

    My system: •MSI B450 Tomahawk

    •Sapphire Pulse RX 580

    •Ryzen 5 1600 AF processor

•Silicon Power 16gb Xpower RGB Turbine 3200mhz Ram

    •Adata su650 240gb m.2

    •Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD

    •Thermaltake Smart 650w Bronze PSU

    Upgrading Ryzen 5 1600 to 5 3600

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 01:14 AM PDT

Hi guys there's a sale in my country offering R5 3600 for only RM600($140). I could also sell my R5 1600 for around RM300($70). Should I jump the gun? My GPU is GTX 1070 with MSI B350M Mortar mobo and i mainly play CSGO, which has struggled to maintain >150fps.

Is $70 worth the upgrade or should I hold out for 4th gen Ryzens?

    First time build 1440p 144Hz

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 02:22 PM PDT

    Hello everyone,

This is my first time building a PC. It should be around 1500€ budget, but there is room for more if needed. The PC should be able to render newer games on highest settings with 1440p and stable FPS above 80. Also I have never overclocked and I am not aiming for it in this build, but I could imagine to try it out one time maybe.

Can you recommend better parts which are maybe cheaper or fit better?

First time PC build, RX 570, RX 580, 1650 super or 1660 super?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 02:22 PM PDT

Trying to decide between going the used route on either an RX 570/RX 580 or a new 1650 super or 1660 super.

I have the 1600AF on its way now.

I trade stocks and use many tabs in chrome. I play DotA 2 and Sea of Thieves currently so not super heavy gaming, but decent. Budget is around $500 to $600 for the entire PC

Potential RAM incompatibility with MSI B450 Tomahawk + Ryzen 3600X

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 02:20 PM PDT

    Hello,

I've been ordering parts for my build that uses a Ryzen 3600X processor alongside an MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX motherboard. I wanted to pair this with 16GB of 3600 speed RAM. However, once I ordered the RAM it said on the cover that it supported Intel - and got me worried that it won't work for my build. The exact RAM I got is the G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB 3600 (F4-3600C18D-16GVK). As I understand it, I can look up the motherboard's specification page to find out if the RAM is compatible. I can't seem to find the exact code for my RAM, though I do see similar ones - I just wanted to make sure I understood the process, as I had thought all RAM was compatible. If this RAM is indeed incompatible - could anyone please recommend one that is?

    Thanks in advance!

EDIT: If I go back to my PC Part Picker list and click on the G.Skill RAM I ordered, then scroll down to compatible motherboards, the MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX shows up - implying my RAM is compatible. Is this indeed the case?

I think my build is almost ready. Could somebody check if I made a mistake, or if I'm overspending/underspending in certain areas? Thanks!

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 02:17 PM PDT

    Build Help/Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)

    yes

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

I'd like to use Adobe vector and pixel software (Illustrator, photoshop, InDesign, Animate) and other 2D animating/drawing software. I'd also like to game and stream.

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

I guess comparable or better than Xbox One and PS4. Doesn't have to be top of the line though.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

$1200, a little over if absolutely necessary.

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

    United States

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zQ9HrV

Provide any additional details you wish below.

Could you also recommend a good PCIe card for this build? I don't have an internet port in the room I want to put my PC. The motherboard I have selected is pre flashed for 3000 series from where I want to buy it, so disregard the compatibility warning.

    Is my motherboard broken?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 02:12 PM PDT

I left my room one day with my computer on came back and it was completely off with no fans or lights running. Would a motherboard breaking cause it to do absolutely nothing when I press the power button? When my computer is off the motherboard usually has lights on still but now there are no lights and no fans spin when I press the power button. I'm thinking its the PSU what do you think? I already checked the outlet and it works and I don't have a paperclip atm just want your opinion on what you think it is.

NZXT H510 vs iCue 220T Airflow

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 02:00 PM PDT

So, I'm going to build a pc, but I can't decide between this two cases. The white version for both.

I like the fact that the 220T has better airflow, and comes with corsair rgb fans. Also I can put 2 fans on the top instead of 1 like the NZXT.

I really prefer the aesthetics on the NZXT H510 and the mix of black and white overall in the case, while in the 220T it's almost all white.

Any opinion would be welcome! :)

Does 27 inch IPS panel really hits your eyes that badly ?

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 01:59 PM PDT

I'd like to buy MSI Optix MAG272C, also if 24 inches are better then I'll go for Asus TUF Gaming VG249Q. Basically, I'd like to hear your suggestions on a good IPS panel to pair with 2060 super.
