Would this be good enough for 1440p 144hz gaming? ($1000 PC)

(Kind of) stolen from a Bitwit build video, was wondering if it would be good enough to video edit on and to play Minecraft on 1440p at 144hz, would I have to spend more on parts to achieve this?

    Thanks in advance.

Budget 1080 144hz monitor or LG 27gl850 panel + a controller from AliExpress

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 01:43 AM PDT

Hi, I want some advice on choosing between Viotek GN24C and a DIY LG 27gl850. I already have a 27gl850 panel without LCD controller in hand. I found this controller board from Aliexpress. Its is 100% compatible but it is not cheap. I am comfortable doing this but, is it worth it to do so or the risk of getting slow response times or other problems is too high?
    Thanks in advance.

    Sound card!

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 02:34 AM PDT

I'm planning to buy new headset ( https://www.amazon.it/HyperX-Cloud-Cuffie-Gaming-Mobile/dp/B00SAYCXWG?th=1 ). My doubt is: is my motherboard's sound card MSI B250M PRO-VD( https://it.msi.com/Motherboard/B250M-PRO-VD/Specification ) good enough? It seem to be ok for me. And another doubt, do i have to plug the headset cable directly on the motherboard because now i'm using case plug. It change?

    Thank You.

Asus TUF x570 Fan headers help...

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:53 PM PDT

    Hi,

I am going to order an Asus TUF x570 to pair with my Ryzen 3700x and the case is a NZXT h710. The case comes with 4 fans pre-installed, 1x 140mm(rear exhaust) and 3x 120mm(front intake). I plan on adding 3x Corsair LL120 fans(with lightning node pro) as top exhaust and replace the stock 140mm fan with the LL 140mm.

After reading the motherboard specification I see that it only has 3 fan headers, 1 CPU fan header and 1 AIO header. Could you please help me with the number of fan splitters I will need to successfully connect my fans to the PWM controllers on the motherboard?

P.S. The tota number of fans in the setup will be 7 (1x rear, 3x front, 3x top)

    Thanks

First build, building around a gifted gtx 1070 with future-proofing in mind.

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:47 PM PDT

Hey there. Building my first PC for myself. I built a PC for someone else in grade school...which was about 15 years ago. So much has changed so I was a bit blown away by all the choices!

Here's the build that I've got at the moment:

Note: the storage is actually a single Addlink S70 2TB SSD NVMe PCIe 3x4 M.2 2280, which isn't shown on partpicker for some reason? Is there a compatibility thing I'm missing there?

Note2: I have a second monitor...some samsong syncmaster thing. it'll do for secondary monitor while the one I'm buying does the gaming.

    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gh4gp8

The idea here, as the title mentions, is that my brother gave me his evga gtx 1070 that he no longer needs to start me off, and I intend to build a gaming PC around it good enough that when this card no longer is up to snuff, I can just replace it and keep on trucking, hopefully upgrading to higher resolutions and such at that time.

My computer for the past few years has been an MSI GT70 2pe dominator pro, but I'm done paying the laptop premium. I'd like to get a nice desktop instead, and a cheap laptop capable of FTL level games for travel/work/whatever.

As far as performance...I've not gotten the impression that the GTX 1070 is capable of going 2k or 4k easily, so I figured I'd get a nice 1080p monitor, run that at refresh rates my eyes have never seen before (144hz?), and then upgrade to the higher resolutions when the GTX1070 no longer cuts it for current stuff.

Budget would be...well I'd rather not go much above 2k unless it's necessary, but I can afford to do so. I guess I'll set an arbitrary limit at 3k, unless something major comes up.

I'm in the US, east coast, probably ordering all this off newegg and amazon and the like.

Will this build age well, minus the free graphics card? Again, first build, so is there anything I'm neglecting here besides a keyboard that I just realized I need...woops.

Thanks, and stay safe out there!

EDIT: oh and I have something to use as a microphone for now, and will probably get a logitech webcam thing when they're back in stock after this corona thing blows over.

EDIT2: I guess I should make a post on the laptop subreddit for suggestions for that too? Seems like a good idea.

Quick trip to stop crashing on 5700xt

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 08:26 AM PDT

I recently made an AMD build and was running into trouble. During gaming, black screen, no video (no signal detected). I followed a lot of troubleshooting advice, underclocked my card, reinstalled drivers . . . But on one thread I found a weird suggestion to turn off hardware acceleration on Discord has worked. It's the one program I always have running. So now I have no more fear of random turnoffs! Making this post to help other people who might be googling the same thing.

TL;DR Turn off hardware acceleration on discord.

All around gaming and productivity rig

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 01:10 PM PDT

Trying to build my son a gaming PC/productivity rig as a surprise. He's heavily invested into Minecraft and is currently attending a Minecraft animation/coding/modding class. Is there anything in the build I should change or upgrade/downgrade? I've done my due diligence on looking at each part individually but it doesn't hurt to ask. Please do note that I am planning to get him a Palit RTX 2060 Super Gaming Pro primarily due to local prices.

    Ryzen 5 3600 vs 3600X vs Intel i5-9600KF

Currently have an i5-6600K, looking to upgrade for quarantine season. Used for gaming. Can't decide between these three due to price points. In Canada, so 3600 is $249, 3600X is $299, and i5-9600KF is $269. Stuck between the 3600 and the 9600KF due to $20 difference. Please help me decide.

Building a new gaming PC. Feedback appreciated for a new AMD build.

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:55 PM PDT

Have you read the sidebar and rules?

    Yes

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

Primarily building a new PC for gaming. It'll handle everything from League of Legends and ARK to Oculus Quest VR via Oculus Link. I will also use it for 4K video editing. I have a 144Hz acer monitor and the video card in the build below is in my current tower. It will move to the new PC for a couple years. I'll also likely add another pair of RAM, unless somebody has a better suggestion for something over 16GB that doesn't break the bank.

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

I'd like to run most games near their highest settings with an emphasis on keeping my framerate close to 144Hz where possible. In League, this should be simple. Oculus VR is a different beast that I'm unfamiliar with.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

Not super concerned with budget, it's inline with the system built below.

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

    US

Provide any additional details you wish below.

I've never had an AMD processor before, let alone built a computer around one, so this is new territory for me. I want to have a nice stable system with room for upgrades in a few years.

I'll likely overclock at least the RAM but haven't gotten much beyond that, yet. I'm not married to the RAM or power supply. Looking for recommendations/comments there. And hopefully any feedback on potential compatibility issues.

Hard drive beeping and now can’t be located; is my data lost?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:37 PM PDT

I have a 4TB hard drive and a 240gb SSD. Luckily windows is on the SSD but basically all my data is on the 4TB.

I heard a loud beeping noise coming from the PC so decided to restart. Upon restarting I now get a message saying that my D drive (the 4TB) cannot be located.

What would the beeps likely mean and how can I get my data back? Is there anything I can try within windows as I can still access the OS fine.

Oh and for anyone reading; I know you've heard it a thousand time's already but back your shit up. Seriously.

GPU fans acting strange. Having 2070 Super GPU and RM750X PSU. Question is: Is the original single PCI-E powercable enough?.

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:34 PM PDT

Been thinking that should it be wise to have 2 different power cables to GPU instead of one for better stability? Also my Gigabyte 2070S Windforce has this strange habit. Sometimes it just suddenly boots up the fans for no reason even temps are below 60c and fans speeds up for a while in cycles like for 10sec and then shuts off.

New build fried my GPU? Need help troubleshooting

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 07:14 AM PDT

Yesterday I received some goodies to upgrade my computer. I'm looking for some insights on whether or not my GPU is fried and also what caused the issue. Here's what I got:

    -AMD Ryzen 5 3600

    -MSI B450MGAPLUS Motherboard

    -16G DDR4

-SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS 500GB NVMe

    -G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB)

Parts that I re-used from my previous build:

    -Case

    -Corsair TX850 PSU

    -Strix GTX 980Ti

    -250GB SSD with my OS

    -1TB HDD with storage

I put everything together and booted correctly on the first try. Over the course of an hour I moved some steam games from my HDD to my new NVMe while watching Youtube and had no issues whatsoever. GPU was reading normal temps the whole time. I decided to boot up Path of Exile to see how much faster load times would be - after about 2 minutes in game my displays shut off but I still had sound. I got a weird smell coming from my GPU and immediately turned off the computer. I figured maybe there was an issue with the fans not going off or something like that and the smell would be some dust getting heated.

Upon rebooting, the screen flashed red for about 1 second (This is what it looked like) and then I was greeted by a 800x600 resolution and only 1 screen working while still being plugged in my GPU. The graphic card is still getting power, the fans on it are starting when it gets a little hot and my system sees it but shows "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems(Code 43)".

    What I've tried so far:

-Uninstalled and re-installed the drivers. When installing my screen flashes the same red tone for a second and then GForce experience acts like I don't have a driver - asking me to Express install or Custom install again (I tried Custom install to do a fresh install multiple times with same results)

-Pulled the GPU to dust it and replugged it, I unfortunately only have 1 PCIe slot in this Mobo so I can't try another slot.

-Formatted my hard drive and tried a fresh install of the drivers

-Updated my BIOS (read that in some cases it could cause an issue)

I'm really at a loss, I feel like the GPU might be fried, but I don't really understand what caused it in my new build. If it's an issue with the mobo or with the PSU I'm a little reluctant to order another $500+ GPU and plug it in hoping it wouldn't have the same swift death.

Edit 1: Tried plugging my monitor via HDMI instead of DP, still worked but still in 800x600. Tried removing the card and plugging HDMI and DVI directly in the mobo and I'm not getting an image. Could this be a MOBO issue?

    What cpu and gpu?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:32 PM PDT

I got some parts around a year ago and it's a pretty bad build. (I didn't choose the parts)

I now can afford to upgrade so I'm just curious as to what the best options would be.

Someone recommended the 9600K and the 2070, is that still a good option or is there something better?

I play lots of AAA games, Fortnite, assassins creed, Minecraft, etc.

Is it even worth buying an RTX 2080 Ti with the 3000 series (3080) supposedly coming Q4?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:31 PM PDT

I'm making a new build, just wondering what people's thoughts are on whether it's worth buying a 2080 Ti now or waiting for Ampere. I've heard speculation that the performance on the 3080 will be almost double that of the 2080 Ti, but I'm taking it with a pinch of salt for the minute. Either way, I've got a GTX 1070 for now but it's struggling in RDR2 in certain places.

Alternatives for GeForce 1660 GTX Super OC
