Just looking for any feedback on my list. I also have some general questions below. Feel free to answer as few/many as you want. Any feedback is appreciated as I don't want to buy something when there might be an improvement I overlooked.

    1. Will this CPU be able to handle gaming and creating 3D animation?
    2. Should I get 3200 14 ram or stick with the 3600 16 I have?
    3. Should I get a second ssd just for windows and some programs? I'm guessing I will probably build another pc before the next version of windows comes out (~5 years)
    4. Is the 2060 able to do 1440p 144hz for the next 1-2 years? Is it capable of 1440p 60hz?
    5. With getting a RTX gpu is there a certain monitor type I should look for?

Edit: Wow, I only expected like maybe 3-4 comments. Thank you all so much for taking time out of your day to help me. I really appreciate it. I'll try to respond to as many comments as I can.

Pretty Proud of this Build... Don't Think I Can Get More Frames for Less $$$

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 03:19 AM PST

I just got home from Microcenter where I picked up all these parts pieces... the CPU was about $90 open box, I got $30 off the MOBO, and the RAM was an early BF deal at $59.99 so my out the door price for all the components including GPU was about $680 (for some reason this list doesn't include the $60 for PSU).

I got home and had it all put together in about an hour and it's great. I will likely add some 140mm fans to the front of the case and then a 3.5" storage drive to get more of Steam library on, but still going to be under $750 for a good amount of frames. How did I do?

Edit: Here are some pics just to see... I intentionally didn't add any RGBs as this is a little desk tucked into a corner of our family's living room and well, some wives aren't all about strobing LEDS and stuff, it seems. Also I just wanted to get it plugged in so yes, I could do a better job hiding/stowing some cables, but it's good and stable.

Will this build support a 2k 144hz monitor?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 03:06 AM PST

MSI X570-A PRO ATX AM4 Motherboard

Super Flower Leadex III Gold 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

Phanteks ECLIPSE P350X ATX Mid Tower Case

Much like the title says I was wondering if this build will support a 2K 144hz monitor. It has been over 5yrs since my last build and am looking to do a completely new one that will hopefully last just as long. It will mostly be for gaming, but also 3D modelling work. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Hi guys I've been wondering whether to go with a 1660 ti or an rx 590. Right now the power color red devil rx 590 is 199.99 while the Gigabyte Windforce GeForce GTX 1660 Ti OC is 249.99 after rebate. Do you think it is worth the extra 50 dollars. Or should I just go with the 1660 ti

I'm looking for a very specific, very odd thing...

    Posted: 26 Nov 2019 05:55 PM PST

So, basically, I want a bunch of these:

    https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/PAUAAOSwkttZZ8-J/s-l400.jpg

That you can plug into a computer via USB (or something) and bind it to a certain action. For example, let's say you're playing a game, and you want to toggle auto-run or something. You flip the switch, and off you go.

Now yes, you could just bind that to a normal button, but what's the fun in that?

Does anybody know about anything like this? I've been trying to look it up but I keep finding actual switches that deal with real electric current, not an overly-complicated button.

What would you recommend for RAM for a Ryzen 5 3600 with a MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX mobo?

I see the mobo supports 4000+ but is it worth it? I'm reading about ideal speeds to match your cpu but i'm a bit lost...

Looking for feedback on my first build. It's intended to be designed for good VR performance at around $1,100.

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 10:06 AM PST

I'm a first-timer looking for any feedback on my prospective build, pcpartpicker.com/list/rRM3yk. I'm building this primarily to play VR well and will play any other games at 1080p. The two compatibility warnings in the PCPartPicker link shouldn't be a problem and are addressed below . I'm very open to suggestions to hardware alternatives except for the CPU and case. I have 8 specific questions that I'm hoping to get some good answers for.

    CPU/CPU Cooler - AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor - 194.00 at Amazon
I don't plan to overclock. The AMD Ryzen 5 3600 comes with AMD Wraith Stealth cooler - link.
    1. That CPU cooler should be just fine, right?

Motherboard - MSI B450M GAMING PLUS Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard - $69.99 at NewEgg
PCPP Warning: Motherboard BIOS update required. - It is USB BIOS Flashback capable so that should be fine with my 3rd Generation CPU.

    Memory - Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory - $57.99 at Amazon
I just kind of arbitrarily picked a brand of 16GB (2x8GB) because that's what was on similar builds.
    2. Is this fine, what should I get?

Storage - Intel 660p Series 1.02 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive - $82.99 at New Egg
Storage - Seagate Barracuda Compute 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive - $49.99 at Walmart
Storage - Seagate Barracuda Compute 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive - $49.99 at Walmart
I'd like a 1TB M.2 SSD and want to RAID two HDD's, a 2TB to mirror the other 2TB. The motherboard I have picked out has RAID support.
    3. Is there anything else I need to keep in mind?

GPU - MSI GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8 GB VENTUS OC Video Card - $469.99 at NewEgg
I feel pretty good about the GPU as it's really at my max budget for a GPU and ranks really highly in this benchmark list, link. I'm really looking for VR performance and will do all my other gaming at 1080p.
    4. Is this my best option under $500 for VR performance?
    5. If I stick with this how do I choose which brand/manufacturer?

Case - Cooler Master MasterBox Q300L MicroATX Mini Tower Case - $39.98 at NewEgg
I really like this case and want to make it work.
PCPP Warning: 1 additional 3.5" drive bay required. -This guy securely mounted his additional 3.5" HDD to the case floor in his build, I'll do the same. - link
Let me talk through something here...
-Case says GPU max length allowance 360mm. GPU says it's max length is 257mm.
-Case says dimensions (HxWxD) 14.88" x 9.06" x 15.24". GPU says card dimensions (LxH) 10.12"x5.00".
-Case says Max CPU Cooler Height Allowance 157mm. Forums indicate cooler height 53.4mm.
-Case says Max PSU Length 224mm. So I just need to pick out a PSU shorter than that.
    6. So I shouldn't have any problems there right, and are there any other size and fit concerns I should have?

    PSU -
I didn't want to pick one out until I felt all my other components are settled. If you think my build is good the way it is, I'd love suggestions. The case description does say "MasterBox Q300L can accommodate a normal ATX PSU"
    7. Is there an inherent benefit to normal ATX PSU's over others?

    Wireless Network Adapter - Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I PCIe x1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi Adapter - $33.99 at Amazon
I just picked one that had a lot of good reviews.

    Case fan -
The case has one in it.
    8. Is that and the CPU Cooler adequate if I'm not overclocking, or do I need additional cooling?

Thanks for any help! I'm very excited about this!

Is there a way to trouble shoot bad CPU vs Motherboard?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 12:55 PM PST

So my computer is dead, as in no POST. Changed out the motherboard battery, and ensured that the power supply is working properly. From everything I have researched the next two potential issues are CPU and Motherboard. I unfortunately don't have an extra CPU to plug in to test, so I was wondering if there is some other way to troubleshoot what the issue might be.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I need a case recommendation that can fit everything and if it needs fans which fans would you pick.

Is this a good build? What would you change? I want this for purely gaming.

Should I go with the G. Skill trident z (2x8) 3600 Mhz instead?

I want to play games in 1440p and 1080p 144hz

Has anyone had performance issues with 5700 xt? Normally an nvidia person here.

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 05:37 AM PST

Normally I only buy nvidia due to stutter issues with radeon in the past, but it's been years. The pricing on the 5700 xt is just too attractive and so i wanted to know if there are still anomalous issues that would detract from the written benchmarks. Ive read countless reviews but they never go into detail with the user reported issues, writing them off as "possible driver problems."

Need non expensive case fans for as good airflow and less noise as possible

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 11:55 AM PST

I need like 2-3 more fans for my case cause i need to improve my air flow but i m currently on a tight budget so it should be like 16$ each or below equivalent. I would like the best airflow as possible with less priority on rgb. Also size can be 120/140mm

P.S. Noctua is not an option because i ll have to import it

    The better X570 motherboard?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 01:50 PM PST

I've got everything I need for a new video editing / 3D animation workstation except for the motherboard. I plan on using two RTX GPU's paired with an AMD 3950x, and at least one 2TB NVMe for assets and video footage (and ideally another one for the OS if there's enough slots). I've narrowed it down to either the ASUS Pro WS X570-Ace or the MSI MEG X570 Unify. Do either of these have any obvious advantage/s over the other?

    Pre-Built or BuildAPC Help!

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 01:42 PM PST

    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BZR8Jb

Here's my build...but I want to get the cost down to around $600-$700

    Monitor I have:

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CVL2D2S/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_i_lbz1Db6KJB8ED

I know I will want a nicer one.

    Don't include peripherals in budget.

Disclaimer: I know very little about computers/building a computer. I have a MacBook Pro I use for personal use and I use my Xbox for gaming currently. I would want to order on black friday/cyber monday if possible.

    Budget $600-$700

Operating System: I would want Windows

Buying from USA. I live in San Diego, CA. Microcenter 1 hour away

Purpose: Gaming. I currently want to play Fortnite, Call of Duty MW, and other games down the road. I play these games casually to have fun, therefore I do not need to run the game flawlessly, but I currently play on a 6 year old Xbox so I want an "upgrade" in performance. I experience lag, etc on my Xbox and want a computer to handle these games to enhance the gaming experience by having nice graphics and running the games smoothly. But again, I am a casual player and simply play to have fun. If a new game comes out in a year that requires a nice GPU to run the game, I want my PC to be able to handle it. I would also like to use the computer for my remote job. Microsoft word/excel, using my gmail/sending emails, and just using the web.

Prebuilt vs BuildaPC: Should I buy a prebuilt like this one https://www.google.com/shopping/product/11729696851188733993

Or can I get more bang for my buck if I build my own. I do want to potentially upgrade components in 1, 2, 3 yrs down the road. Thank you.

Provide any additional details you wish below.

Above is the build I'm thinking of going, it seems like a 3900X seems out of budget. I keep getting given different advice on what CPU to buy, and the benchmarks I watch don't seem to be helping - Intel is the winner in gaming, which is the primary use of my build, but I also want the PC to be good for programming and light editing. I also don't want to upgrade anything major on this PC for a good while, other than adding some more RAM at some point.

    GPU: R9 290x

    RAM: 8GB 2133mhz DDR3

    2x2tb HDD

Thinking about upgrading the gpu and the ram. I know ddr3 is outdated but I think the rest of the build is still good enough. Doing 1080p/144hz by the way

    Considering:

    290x -> 5700(XT)

    8GB -> 16GB

    Maybe an ssd as well.

What do you all think? My main concern is actually just size of the new card. Anyone happen to know the dimensions of the 5700/5700xt?

About to pull the trigger and buy all pc parts. Looking for a sanity check to make sure I am not an idiot. [Repost - no response]

Build list is on the bottom of this post.

I have a few questions, I hope some of you can answer one or two:

    • PCPartPicker says "The motherboard M.2 slot #1 shares bandwidth with SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports. When the M.2 slot is populated, two SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports are disabled." Will I be able to plug in both M.2 and SATA HDD?
    • If I ever decide to overclock my CPU, is the Tomahawk MAX capable?
    • Will I be able to connect the single Corsair RGB 120mm fan to the motherboard and synchronize the colour scheme with the Corsair RGB RAM sticks? And what if I buy a 2nd RGB fan?
    • Will I be able to connect my motherboard to the USB headers of the Nzxt H510 case? I read some people had issues with that before. Do I need to be buy seperate cables?
    • Does the Cooler Master Cable Kit include enough (and the correct) cables to replace all 'visible' cables in my case? I want to give my pc a black & white theme but I don't want to spend €100 for a full Cablemod kit, especially since the PSU is hidden so you won't see all the cables. Here is a link to the cable kit (Dutch website)
    • Is the 2TB HDD a good choice? It's on a Black Friday discount and most discounts here are usually applied to items that don't sell well.

NOTE: I already own the monitors.
