Reminder: No memes, even in comments. Posted: 12 Jul 2020 12:46 AM PDT This is a friendly reminder of Rule #3: Memes, direct image links, and low effort content will be removed. This includes both posts and comments. We've had an uptick in meme comments here, and while we mods do enjoy our memes - some of us actually co-moderate a subreddit for that, /r/hardwarememes - they're not appropriate for /r/hardware. While I might give you the courteousy of a warning, technically you can get a 1-3 day tempban for such things (depending on if it was a toxic comment or a just a jesting comment). So please... refrain from these sort of comments so we don't have to be Nazi mods, OK? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 11 Aug 2021 01:43 AM PDT I am a little dissappointed in Intel and Micron, as they dont seem to have interest in scaling up this amazing technology. While Micron has completely abandoned this technology, Intel seems to sell what they have at extremely high prices to (I assume) businesses. (2nd Gen Optane p5800x, is more expensive per GB compared to the first Gen p4800x?) I would really like to know, what's the reasoning behind abandoning the consumer market for Intel, or even the entire technology for Micron? Was it impossible to scale or just to expensive? And what is making consumer drives unfeasible? I get that the density was very low compared to Nand Flash, but I still see a huge market for these Drives. The high QD1 speed is absolutely amazing for anyone who isn't running their entire application (like databases) in RAM. What in your opinion is the future of optane memory? [link] [comments] |

What are your opinions on Lightmatter and their photonic processor? Posted: 10 Aug 2021 05:13 PM PDT I was doing some research and I discovered Lightmatter who claims to have created photonic processors that are faster than normal ones? Do they actually even work and how would they change the processor landscape? [link] [comments] |
