    CPU Good enough for 3060ti - 3080?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 01:02 AM PDT

Is the i5-10600k good enough for 3070 up to 3080? I know it is a good choice on the 3060ti, but since prices are weird now, I look forward for anything between 3060ti and 3080

I'm never going back to AIO

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 01:52 PM PDT

After a second round of my pump going out... both were coolermaster ML240. First was under warranty, second was just barely out.

I thought a simpler solution would be the old school heat-sink and fan set up (cheaper too)..like us old nerds used to use back in the stone ages of the 2010s.

I picked up a Noctua NH-U12S and its performance is better than the AIO ever was and superficially quieter because I got rid of the radiator and fans from the top of the case.

Unless you are doing some serious overclocking, I don't think most normal users need AIO at all for daily driving.

I know your Krakens are pretty fly looking, but from here on out, I'm rocking tan and brown.

Am I the only one who feels the 5600x is overrated?

    Posted: 23 Jul 2021 09:44 PM PDT

For a disclaimer I'm no Intel shill, my system is literally all amd: Ryzen 5 3600 and rx 5700xt. It just feels like right now everyone is recommending the 6 core 5600x, it's a very good 6 cores, but it's 300 dollars, I mean you can get a 10400 for literally half that price, and from what I've seen in tests and what people are saying in games the performance difference is nearly non-existent. And knowing there's no forward compatibility for the AMD motherboards why are people recommending the 5600x so much?

Edit: something I didn't consider was motherboard pricing which is a good point, I'm not sure how big the difference in price is between the amd and Intel motherboards but it could potentially reduce that 150$ price difference into not being worth it. Some people were talking about not needing a cooler although it sounds like in both cases the stock cooler is insufficient. Also, I was more talking about new builds, for people with some of the 1000 or 2000 series zen processors it's definitely worth getting a 5600x since you'renot changing out the motherboard. People also brought up that you can technically upgrade to a 5950x, which I think is a pretty rare case even in the future if it gets a lot cheaper, but is an option I guess.

what CPU is better for a starter PC

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 08:29 AM PDT

So before i thought about getting an i5 10400f but i decided to change to ryzen since i got a bit more budget. So I thought about 2 ryzen CPUs: r5 5600x and r7 3700x. I am mainly gonna play Apex Legends and Minecraft. I will get a GTX 1660/1660S and 16GB 3200mhz dual channel. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.)

    [RAM] 4x2GB or 1x8GB? Or 2x4GB?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 05:47 AM PDT

I've heard mixed things about the RAM configuration I should have for gaming. Escape from Tarkov, for example. People said I should be using two 4GB sticks on two channels (at least. The more the better, I know, but just using as a reference). Even heard 1x8GB would work well too. But I'm also aware having RAM on all channels allows for a higher bandwidth. Sure, the optimal would probably be like 4x4GB or so, but I'm trying to spend less, unfortunately.

I'm trying to find out what's bottlenecking my PC. EFT is giving me massive stutters. I know I'm on really low end specs, but I'm trying to make do with what I have. Plus, people have gotten their EFT to work on hardware like mine. I'm assuming it's RAM since I'm asking here, but it could also be my 6 year old C: HDD, and I'm also considering replacing it for an SSD. Any advice is absolutely greatly appreciated

Strange monitor issue while playing game.

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 06:36 AM PDT

Whenever I play Red Dead Redemption 2, there is strange, quick white flashes covering parts of the screen and sometimes my monitor will just turn off for a second then come back. This happens once every 5-10 minutes. I have tried changing around lots of settings to fix this, and none have worked. It is not a loose cable, I have secured all connections from the monitor and graphics card. This issue does not happen on any other games I play other than RDR2. Please help, its ruining the experience for me.

First ITX build, about to do it.

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 12:08 PM PDT

I want to make the switch to ITX since I need to take my PC with me every now and then and I wanted to make an upgrade anyways. Would be great if somebody could look over this. I'm not quite sure about the motherboard though looking at reviews it seems to be very capable and should be able to handle a stock 5900X. Also gonna bring another 2.5" SSD over from my current build and I have a fan controller but I'm not sure if I will be able to make it fit, does anybody have experience with that? I prefer it's controls a lot to using the motherboard for fan speed.

    Thanks in advance!

Upgraded my Ryzen 7 1700 to a Ryzen 5 5600x. Can’t get the PC to boot now.

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 01:42 PM PDT

    MOBO: ASUS Crosshair Hero 6

    PSU: Corsair TX850M

    GPU: GeForce 3070

    CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x

So I just swapped my Ryzen 7 1700 for the Ryzen 5 5600x and literally didn't do anything else inside the computer. When I go to boot all the lights come on and the fans spin but nothing happens on the screens. The board is giving me code 8 which people say is insuffficent power to the CPU but that doesn't make sense. I have an 8 pin plugged in currently. Just need some help working through this.

    Chinese 1660 Super?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 11:59 AM PDT

So I was looking on this dodgy app called DH-Gate and I saw a 1660 super for £165 but it was Chinese branded. It was a brand called HUANANZHI and it seems OK ish but I don't know If Its worth it. It does have Buyer Protection and from what I heard they scrap and remake parts for pcs so I don't know if I should trust it however I was thinking about getting it and if it dosnt work just get a refund and get a 1650 but if it ends up being dodgy would it damage the rest of my parts?

    Cooler for an i7-11700k?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 11:44 AM PDT

I have the CPU already and am putting other pieces of the build together now. I have a Z590 Gigabyte UD AC motherboard to plug the CPU into.

I've heard the chip can run very hot.

What kind of cooler do you recommend? Looking for air as it appears to be cheaper and more durable in the long run.

    Upgrading from a gtx 710

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 01:17 PM PDT

What would be the best upgrade to allow 60fps gaming on titles such as rust, warzone etc? Extremely new to pc building and everything is really expensive so I have a limited budget, but still glad I made a jump from Xbox to pc so far.. however the 710 limits my favourite games so as there is a lot of models out there I thought I would ask you guys.

P.s I have an Intel i5 core processor and two 8gb of ram and the reasoning for 60fps is because I was told my monitor will not go above that number if any of those details are needed :)

Built a monster PC but running into benchmark issues?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 09:09 AM PDT

    My current setup:

    EVGA 3080 TI

    Neo Trident g-skill 3600 DDR4 ram

    b550 rog strix wifi motherboard

    850 EVGA GOLD Rated PSU

    LIAN LI 240 Watercooler

I just ran benchmark tests and my cpu and my ram are performing way below than what the standard should be? I'm wondering where I went wrong.

Can I get some help on how to troubleshoot and identify any issues?

My power mode : is set to high performance

I haven't messed with any bios options yet.

My RAM is installed in the first and third slot.

GPU with PCB damage, no signal, but detected by windows?

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 12:45 PM PDT

If there is a more appropriate subreddit for this, i'll be happy to move/delete my post

I picked up a non-working r7 260x with some damage to the pcb near the pcie power connector. I get no signal from the card (so not even the bios screen is visible, which it should be even if i don't have the right drivers installed, right ?) . The only thing that makes me think it might not be completely dead is that the Fan spins, and i can see it in Windows device manager using another gpu hooked up to the screen. It even detects it as an R7 200 series.

Edit: in device manager i get error code 31, and it says something about the drivers being different to the ones used by the video card that is in POST mode. (rough translation from the french error message). But I guess this is to be expected, since that's when i have a gtx950 in one slot and the r7 in another, so its using nvidia drivers?

    https://imgur.com/a/HWJUsnt

I think i've heard of people trying to fix a pcb trace with wires or some sort of conductive ink. Anyone know if I could give it a shot here?

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)

    Yes

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

This thing is probably going to get the most of its use as a NAS, but I would like to be able to run servers for Minecraft and Terraria, as well as play around with containers and VMs. I'm aware I could just buy a cheap NAS, but I have money and want to have room to play around with

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

    $750

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

    USA

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

    3090 + 5900X best PSU?

First time building a PC and was going to go with a 850 W Power Supply but after doing some research its looking like a 1000W power supply is more suited for this.

Help this guy compare 2 old but gold (bronze actually) PSUs

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 02:09 PM PDT

    Hey fellas!

I'm building a new workstation and I've decided to reuse one of the PSUs I have lying around the house for this build since they both seem a good fit for it (650w, decent brand).
Naturally I want to pick the best of them for the build but I'm having a hard time comparing them as my knowledge on PSUs is negligible.

I know "which one's best?" posts are super annoying so I'd be more than happy even with any tips/instructions on what to look for when comparing them.

    So, to the contenders...

    XFX 650w XXX Edition (P1-650X-CAH9)
    vs
    Corsair TX650M (CMPSU-650TXM)

    What I know:

    - Both are semi-modular
    - Both 650w 80 PLUS BRONZE
    - XFX made by Seasonic (Googled it and it seems to be a good thing?)
    - XFX has 4x PCI-E and Corsair has 2x... but I'll hardly use 2 GPUs on this, 3 is out of question
    - XFX lives in my current/active work PC (thus, would require me to back everything up first... and temporarily make it unusable... I'm lazy you know), whereas Corsair is just sitting in an abandoned PC.

...I'm dying to get the new build up'n'running. Everything but the PSU is in place, but I wanna make sure I make the right choice.

    ANY help would be appreciated.
    Thanks a lot everyone!

    White PC Peripherals help

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 02:01 PM PDT

I have a white and blue PC build and I was looking for some white peripherals to go with it. I already have the key board and headset that I want selected. I'm mostly looking for a mmo mouse (The mice with the 9 - 12 programmable thumb side buttons. Not sure if it's called an mmo mouse but that's what I always called it) RGB is not too important but if it has customizable rgb that is a bonus. I'm also looking for some White monitors to go with it. Preferably one 144hz and the other can be 60hz. I looking to keep in under 250 hundred for each monitor and under 100 for the mouse. A little over is just fine. Any Suggestions?

Adding 16gb of ram to a 32gb Ryzen System

    Posted: 24 Jul 2021 12:48 AM PDT

    TridentZ RGB 32GB 3600mhz (F4-3600C16D-32GTZRC, CL16-19-19-39)

    -TridentZ RGB 16GB 3600mhz (F4-3600C16D-16GGTZNC, CL16-19-19-39)

Is it possible to just add the 16gb kit in and not have to dial in settings for DRAM calculator?
