    Low performance on 3070

    Posted: 10 May 2021 06:00 PM PDT

First of all let's get my specs -NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 -AMD Ryzen 7 3700x -Asus prime x570-pro -32gigs of 3600mHz ram -850 watt psu

I play almost all of my games on 1440p resolution due to my monitor being 1440p 144Hz and I struggle to get above 100 frames in games like The Forest or Warzone. My friend who plays on 1440p as well and has 2070 super consistently gets almost double my frames on the same or even better settings in the games we play. Another issue I noticed is on MSI afterburner I'm ALWAYS no matter what I'm doing using 5000 mHz of vram and when I'm in games my gpu will be only using like 50-60% of its capacity and not be anywhere near overheating even further restricting my frames. At one point it raised to 98% and I was getting even less frames which made no sense but it could've just been a visual glitch and I'm not too concerned about that. I've spent so much time online looking for a fix and I figured a post here would probably be the best way to get a straightforward answer

Is it dumb to buy a $250 cpu to use with an old GPU?

    Posted: 11 May 2021 08:08 AM PDT

Like everyone else, I'm ready to build a pc and can source everything except for a decent GPU. I was thinking of buying the 11th Gen Intel i5 11600k but the only GPU I can get my hands on is the Radeon RX 570.

Should I buy cheap components now – just enough to work with the RX 570? Or should I buy good components now so the build will be ready when I finally manage to get a good gpu?

I'm leaning toward the second option because if I'm going to spend money at all it's probably a good idea to spend a little extra for good parts...right?

EDIT: Just came across this. This guy seems to suggest my second option.

    What differs a graphic card?

    Posted: 11 May 2021 10:11 AM PDT

What makes the difference between an Asus and a Gigabyte graphic card? What's the difference in buying an rtx 2060 from pny or evga?

Aren't they all a 2060 rtx card? Or do they follow the standards of the card till certain point then the brand manufacturer really starts to make the difference that reflects on quality?

Sorry to bring this specific point. But sometimes I see a big money difference for the same graphic card with the same memory and spec, that really makes me think.

How big is the difference between 1080p and 1440p?

    Posted: 10 May 2021 05:52 PM PDT

Not trying to sound cynical or anything, but how big is the difference really? Is it that noticeable?

    I'm thinking of switching from a 27" 1080p 144hz to a 27" (or maybe a 32") 1440p 144hz monitor this summer, and I'm wondering if it's worth dropping around $250 total after I sell this one.

    Anyone have a similar experience?

What SFX PSU for 3000/6000 series?

    Posted: 11 May 2021 02:27 PM PDT

So little background, I have a huge computer. It doesnt really fit on my desk and it is a massive pain to get out. I want to do a SFF upgrade, and I picked out a motherboard and case. Then I realize I need a new SFX or SFX-L psu. I want to eventually upgrade to an RTX 3000 or RX 6000, probably the 70 or 80 model. So what wattage do I need in a PSU? I have a 750w right now and everything works great, but for one SFX 750w's are very pricy, and for two everyone says next gen is crazy for power usage. So anything you can recommend is appreciated

PC turned off while playing resident evil village and won’t turn back on

    Posted: 11 May 2021 10:46 AM PDT

So my roommate was playing RE:V last night and his pc randomly turned off. First time this has happened. I built his computer years ago and he's had no problems out of it. He leaves it running 24/7 so I assumed his PSU gave out. It sounded like a shorted circuit when trying to boot up. The lights on his ram still came on and the heat sink tried to start spinning but stopped after a second or 2. So We went and got a new one and I plugged it up with the new cables to everything. Ram still lights up when attempting to power on but still won't power up so it wasn't the PSU. Any suggestions on what to check next?

    Temperatures when gaming

    Posted: 11 May 2021 01:13 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I'm very new to PC building and my PC has the following temps.

RTX3070 MSI - 70 degrees hot spot when gaming (DOOM Eternal at ultra settings / 144 fps)

    i79700KF - 70 degrees package.

I have three fans installed and water cooled processor, not mentioning the power supply fan and 2 x fans attached to my GPU

    Temps taken via HWMonitor.

    Thanks for your time :)

(probably) Unpopular Opinion, mATX boards don't look that bad in Mid Tower cases.

    Posted: 11 May 2021 03:00 PM PDT

Literally only difference I can see is the Mobo cuts off a little bit under where the GPU sits, as opposed to going all the way down to the PSU Shroud (at least in the case of the Meshify C) I personally think its fine. Does ATX still look better? Yes, of course. But the difference between that and mATX in a Mid Tower seems IMO, negligible.

Should the single top fan in my case be intake or outtake?

I have the rear as outtake, and 2 intakes on front, so should the top one be outtake too?

Is this PC worth buying for a starter for gaming?

    Posted: 11 May 2021 11:08 AM PDT

    Specs: Ryzen 5 1600x processor 16 GB ddr4 ram 480gb ssd Nvidia GeForce GT710

It's cheap on marketplace and I was wondering if this would be worth it to buy? I'm not looking for anything amazing to start off with as it would be my first PC and I only want it so that I can play basic games and stream on twitch. I have very limited knowledge about PCs lol so I don't feel confident enough to build my own. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

    NH-D15 or NH-U12S for Corsair 4000D Airflow, i7 10700k and 3060ti?

    Posted: 11 May 2021 02:44 PM PDT

Which is better? I have Corsair LPX memory and an 850w psu so ram clearance and power are not an issue. I will also install a TP-Link AX3000 wifi car, as Ethernet isn't an option (pc is 2 floors above router)

What should I upgrade to improve performance?

    Posted: 11 May 2021 02:35 PM PDT

I work on video animations and some minor 3D stuff for my job. I use After Effects and Blender. I'm getting bolder in the stuff I do and it's taking a toll on my computer. I've noticed it takes longer to render and process in real time and would like to speed things up. Most of the animation I do is just motion graphics, but every now and then I get a chance to work on character animation and this slows it down. I would really like to speed things up.

    Here is my current specs.

    CPU: AMD - Ryzen 7 2700X 3.7 GHz 8-Core Processor

Motherboard: MSI - B450 TOMAHAWK ATX AM4 Motherboard PC

    Memory: Crucial - Ballistix Sport LT 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory

Storage: Samsung - 860 Evo 500 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Video Card: EVGA - GeForce RTX 2070 8 GB Black Video Card

    TIA

I want to upgrade my brothers system for his birthday

    Posted: 11 May 2021 02:27 PM PDT

SO my younger brother has a pretty bad prebuilt pc, and I was planning on upgrading his storage, since he only has 1 TB, but I believe he is also looking at upgrading his RAM, but I think with that I might as well get him a new motherboard and case as well. I don't really know which motherboard to get, his cpu is a Intel I5 7400, and was thinking about Asus boards but don't know which one to get, any tips?

Favorite cases to buy in 2021?

    Posted: 11 May 2021 10:35 AM PDT

I've had a fractal define r5 for a few years now and I think it's getting about time I retire it. It barely fits my 3080 unless I completely take out all the drive bays and the front audio ports have been non functional after an accident a few years ago.

It's hard finding a combination of good filtration, large size, and included USB C. I actually quite like the look of vertical GPU mounting so that's something else I'm looking out for. Does anybody have specific suggestions? I checked out a few but most of the good ones don't have actual removable dust filters, which is really annoying when you have cats lol

Got a 6800XT. Now I need help building!

    Posted: 11 May 2021 09:22 AM PDT

    Hello all,

Through a twist of fate, I find myself with a 6800XT. I currently use a Hades Canyon, and it's time to put it out to pasture and build a new PC.

I'm aiming for a Micro ATX build, and would like to keep the cost down. Looking at a budget of $1k CAD, with some flexibility.

Although I'm not completely hopeless, I've never built a PC before. My biggest struggle right now is understanding my motherboard choices. What should I consider? I don't even understand the naming convention!

Here is a current draft of my parts: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/hRkXQD

Mobo was chosen simply because it's listed as compatible, and supports high-frequency memory...

    I welcome all feedback. Thanks!

    Alternatives to i5 10600k?

    Posted: 11 May 2021 02:20 PM PDT

Hey guys so I build my PC with a RTX 3070 and a i5 10600k this year and and now starting to get parts for a PC for my brother. I have been thinking if there is anything better I can do for a gaming PC build in terms of CPU. Is the I5 1600k the best CPU for gaming or is there anything else that can compete with it? I know it outperforms the 3700x and the 3600 yet those 2 are more expensive.
