    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a ≤$300 graphics card. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case ≤$50

New build: No peripherals working and White VGA LED lit up

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 04:01 AM PST

Hi. I started on this build yesterday and I'm running into a couple of issues.

    Here's the specs:

MOTHERBOARD: Asus ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING (WI-FI) ATX AM4

GPU: Asus GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB DUAL OC

    CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X

    RAM: G.Skill Trident Z 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) 3600 MHz (PC4-28800) (F4-3600C17D-32GTZSW)

    PSU: Corsair RMx 850 W 80+ Gold (CP-9020188-EU)

STORAGE: Western Digital Black SN850 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME

    BIOS TESTED: BIOS-1801 or BIOS-1202

When I boot I have no peripherals lighting up and the "error lights" stop at the white VGA LED. When I unplug the GPU it sometimes allows the peripherals (keyboard/mouse) to light up, but the white VGA LED stays on. All 7 fans and 2 cpu cooler fans are running fine. M.2 SSD had contact in BIOS. Voltage to internals were fine. RAM showed 32GB.

The furthest I got while testing things were to the bios at latest version 1801. Everything was running fine and I checked if everything had connection and power. I was about to start installing Windows after being in bios and the display shut right off before we got started. When I restarted it I was back to square one with the white LED lighting up and no contact with GPU again.

    - Flashed 2 different bios.

    - Cleared CMOS battery.

    - Taken GPU into PCIe 4.0 slot and PCIe 3.0 slot and tested everything on both places.

    - Tried several different cables and cable configurations from the PSU to try to make sure it wasn't a PSU problem or connection problem.

All the parts should be compatible and the only thing I thought would end up being a bit tricky was if something acted up due to the 5800x and the RTX 3070 being new products. Thought maybe an old bios would be the only issue when getting started. I should say this is the first build I've done in about 10 years so I thought I might get some problems.

Is there anything else I can do? Do you know how I can solve this? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

What is this EVGA RTX 3070 XC3 Ultra?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 05:14 AM PST

Been having issues with my brand new RTX 3070 (rebooting, green lines, etc.) as you can find here.

While I'm waiting to hear back about an RMA, I looked at the part number on the card and noticed its not the 08G-P5-3755-KR like every card I see sold online, its the 08G-P5-3755-BR.

The only google result with this BR code is from EVGA Asia. Did I get some weird knockoff of my card? Could that maybe explain the issues I'm having?

How do I get a 30xx card from best buy?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 08:49 AM PST

New to this gpu hunt. When bb drops, and I go to the page, the buy button is grey and it says something like "please wait" (I don't remember what it says :( ) and it has three loading dots.

I kept waiting for it to turn yellow like it said it would so that I could purchase it, but it never turned yellow.

What should I do in that case? Once I'm at the bb website, any tips for getting the cards?

Pc underperfoming in games but average in benchmarks?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 05:17 AM PST

    Hello everyone,

I managed to get a 3080 about a month or two ago. When benchmarking my PC everything seems be performing as expected. or at least I think so

    https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/39622945

    https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/57667069?

When Im checking game benchmarks on youtube my PC is getting a lot less fps than compareable systems in about the same situation.

    I average about

110-130fps in warzone on 1080p low

240-340fps in overwatch 1080p low-mid (depending on map and fights)

from what Ive seen on youtube I should expect about 160-200fps in warzone and nearly maxout ow at 400fps. The only different in system specs is ram. But from what Ive seen ram doesnt matter that much even at 1080p low settings.

Ive already checked for any throttleing but everything looks fine. No TDP limit on my cpu and temps are fine.

I did not overclock anything and dont plan on doing so in the near future.

    My specs:

    i9 9900k

RTX 3080 MSI Gaming x Trio

    ASUS Prime Z390 A

    G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3000Mhz 16-18-18-38 (F4-3000C16D-16GTZR)

    Corsair H100i v2

    Seasonic Focus PLus Gold 750W

Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions

Help me build a system for a children's clinic!

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 07:25 AM PST

Long story short, me and my friends are building a system for a clinic/school for special needs children. This will be used by the teachers in their facility while the students watch at home.

The system will be used for Streamlabs (set up by us), which will be used by the teachers in their Zoom / Google Meet classes. Also, the system will be used for some photo and video creation (overall light stuff, we recommended them to just use Canva and Adobe Spark)

As always, we want to minimize the cost, without skimping on reliability and upgradability. The school said they would prefer to shoulder the cost.

Would the following specs be sufficient?

    CPU Ryzen 4650G
    Mobo ASUS Prime B450m-a
RAM TForce Vulcan TUF 2x8gb 3200mHz
    SSD Crucial 1tb NVMe SSD
    Case Phanteks P300A
    Power Supply Corsair CV550
    Camera Logitech C922 Pro (x2)
Headset SteelSeries Arctis 7 2019 Wireless

    Notes:

    1. We will offer a GPU (1650 probably) as a future upgrade if the iGPU can't cut it
    2. The school already has monitors and kb/m available.
    3. NVMe storage in my area, weirdly enough, is the most affordable (vs 2.5inch)
    4. The school will use 2 OBS scenes, one for facecam and one facing the board.
    5. We think a wireless headset would be good since they would switch between both sets.
    6. The headset doesn't need to be the best in terms of comfort or sound quality (though that would be good), I think it'd be better to focus on connectivity (2.4GHz instead of bluetooth) and good mic quality.

    Gaming Monitor Advice

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 08:58 AM PST

    Hi all,

I currently have an extremely good Gaming PC using -

    • AMD Ryzen 9 5950X
    • Nvidia RTX 3090
    • ASUS ROG Hero VIII
    • 32GB RAM

I currently have an Acer CG437KP 4K Gaming monitor which can hit 120/144hz and has HDR1000. it's just not performing as I'd expect when windows HDR is engaged. The colours are washed out and the brightness seems to be the issue but you cannot adjust the HDR configuration. Bloom is worsened and generally I feel underwhelmed.

I hear a lot say HDR is generally broken in windows but then I hear many saying they have no issue?

Don't get me wrong this looks beautiful without HDR but I did buy this to game in HDR at 120hz and at 4K.

I'd like some genuinely insightful feedback, should I stay with this monitor? Should I move to a 2K widescreen with less resolution? Would I notice the difference when gaming?

I am truly at a loss what to do as I am torn, I'd really appreciate someone with an extensive knowledge of monitors to help.

    Thank you

    Noob question about dual monitors

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 11:38 AM PST

My first and main monitor is connected to the video card with an hdmi cable, the second monitor I want to connect only has a vga port because it's from the ice age whilst my card only has display ports left since it's from this decade. Would it work if I bought a vga-dp cable?

Looking for advice on cable management

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 01:11 PM PST

Hi folks, so I almost have my updated build complete, and I am pretty happy with the cable management for the most part. There is one thing that is bugging me, the AIO pump cables.. this is the first time I have used an AIO, and I think the way I have the cables is just so ugly haha. Has anyone a suggestion on a better way I could route them, to make them less noticeable? Please take a look at the post on Imgur below, highlighted in red is the ones I am talking about. Also I know the GPU cable is hideous too, I will replace that. https://imgur.com/a/LGZc5sb I can rotate the pump if you think it would help!

    PNY 3070 XLR8 Gaming EPIC-X

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 11:53 AM PST

Hi. Is this card performing well?

I am using the Nvidia Performance Overlay to get the results.

Tried World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. Max settings, 4K resolution. GPU Clock goes up to 2055 MHz at times, GPU Temperature doesn't seem to go higher than 52 degrees celsius.

Tried Total War: 3 Kingdoms. Max settings, 4K resolution. GPU Clock 1935 MHz , GPU Temperature 57 degrees celsius.

Is this card better than what I thought?

I have a 3070 Aorus Master as well, but it is slightly bigger and the PNY fits better in my case. Are these numbers from Nvidia Performance Overlay legit and are they good? Thanks!

    Need hardware advice: GPU

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 05:20 AM PST

Hi folks. Being out-of-date hardware wise, and recently divorced from 8 years old AMD graphics card, I'm forced to look for a new one, with a tight budget.

Knowing what I will mostly use it for, modelling and raytrace rendering, I'm offered the cards bellow, and honestly, I can't seem to find useful info about these.

May I please ask you to tell me are these cards powerful for what I mostly need them? Thanks in advance.

    Big difference between 32gb 2400 and 16gb 3200?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 11:52 AM PST

I am planning on making some upgrades in the near future and was wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade to 16gb 3200 ram when I have 32gb 2400 already. I don't really OC and mainly use the pc for gaming.

    My cpu is an i9-9900k.

    Thanks!

Can someone help me check if this all goes together properly.

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 11:37 AM PST

I'm building a PC this summer and I don't know if all the parts I've chose will work together.

    CPU: Intel core i7-10700

Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition

    MoBo: MSI Z490-A PRO

    RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16

Storage: Western Digital Blue SN550 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME

GPU: MSI Radeon RX 5500 XT 4 GB MECH OC

Case: Corsair iCUE 220T RGB Airflow (will be adding a front glass panel)

    PSU: EVGA BQ 600 W 80+ Bronze (Semi-Modular)

OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit

Extra Case Fan: ARCTIC P12 56.3 CFM 120 mm

    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LzGQxc

I'm keeping the three rgb fans in the front, the cooler in front-to-back configuration, and the extra case fan in the back behind the cooler. I want to ask everybody here if there are any incompatibilities with my parts, recommendations are welcome, but don't act like my friends and try to force me to get certain parts. This will be my first time building a pc, and I want to make sure that I don't have too many troubles while building it. So if you can, can you help me figure out if there is something wrong or something that seems off with these parts which I plan to get?

    Scalping/flipping on r/hardwareswap is ridiculous

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 11:36 AM PST

This is an appeal of sorts. I have recently joined the r/hardware$wap community to move some hard to find items(GPUs specifically) into good hands at MSRP. I am not against any specific practices, but I find scalping unethical. Beside the point, I was looking at some recent sold GPUs/rare CPUs that were fairly priced and they usually went to people with 150+ trades that routinely resell these items at 25-50% margin of what they paid for them on the same thread 2 weeks ago.

My appeal is to gamers and all human beings with integrity - stop feeding the machine. I understand people paying scalper prices, it's not a good idea, but understand it. However, for the love of everything holy vet/reddit stock the people you are selling to. If you have priced your hard-to-obtain item generously(I don't think fairly would be the correct term here), in all likelihood you have 10-20 PMs in the first 10 minutes and most if not all of them are from scalpers/flippers. You may have to wait another 60 minutes for some real people to come in, but they will surely pay you generous asking price for an item that they will actually use.

P.S. If you are planning on selling your item to a scalper for cheap, you may as well scalp it yourself. At least, in that case, they money will go into good hands, and you could even donate the unethical(I use this term loosely here) portion of your profits.

P.S.2. I guess I have to clarify this more. I am not appealing to stop scalping(even though that would be an unrealistic dream of mine), I am just appealing to gamers to stop selling their used items to scalpers because there is a throng of other gamers who will gladly take these used items off their hands for the same price the scalpers do, and will actually use it instead of taking advantage of the current market volatility.

    Build help.

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 11:33 AM PST

So as just about as much of you have, I got screwed again on the BB drop today on all GPU'S. This is the third time in a row that I haven't been able to successfully check out. I have everything else that I need for my new build except a current gen GPU. I have an EVGA rtx 960 sitting in my old rig that I could throw in with my new parts, x570 tomahawk, 5600x, nvme 4.0 1tb etc. Would this hold me over until I can get a current gen card? I'd only be playing WoW, Rust, Apex. I'd like to add that I'm in the que for the EVGA 3080 FTW3 Ultra (October 13th signup though).

I'm finished with my part list, when is the best time to buy?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2021 01:33 PM PST

So I've worked on my part list for a couple months now, just learned every part and how to do everything and thanks to the help of this subReddit I have a complete list! My question is when I should buy everything? I wouldn't be able to get my GPU (3060ti) for at least 2 maybe 3 months so should I just wait to buy everything until then too, or is there some reason to believe buying everything else now will somehow be better/cheaper? Should I wait until some sort of major sale and when would that be (like 4th of july or something?).
