Would it make sense to put the low powered iGPU designs on M.2 cards for low cost dGPU? Posted: 24 Jan 2021 08:37 AM PST After Asrocks' M.2 2D display adapter, and the severe lack in low powered GPUs of newer designs, let alone a rise in prices across the board, I'm wondering if it would be possible/make sense to place Vega or XE/intel graphics chips on M.2 cards one could use instead of older, bigger, and louder cards? And most importantly, do you think there would be a market for it considering there is still a market for GT710 cards? GT710 on 1 lane (currently own one) is even capable of some very light gaming as some test show here and here, so a newer chip should be able to achieve a much better performance, 4 PCIe lanes should provide plenty of bandwidth, and there is even ample choice of heatsinks, of either passive or active cooling. Is there even a chance GPU manufacturers would entertain something like that? Edit: Concerns over power could be addressed much like in asrocks' solution, and as for heating dissipation there are beaffy solutions out there already [link] [comments] |
How do today's flagship mobile GPUs stack up against the last gen consoles? Posted: 24 Jan 2021 07:10 AM PST Since apple saying that the 2018's iPad pro with its A12X chip is as powerful as an Xbox one S, I'm curious as to how the latest mobile GPUs like the A14 and the adreno 660 stack up against the PS4 and Xbox one. I believe they would have similar vram as I think phones also have shared memory and phones have like 8-12GB of shared memory right now. I think these mobile GPUs have already surpassed the tegra x1 on the switch, especially in terms of bandwidth. So what's your opinion on this? [link] [comments] |
