    This thread is for simple questions that don't warrant their own thread (although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar and the wiki before posting!). Please don't post involved questions that are better suited to a [Build Help], [Build Ready] or [Build Complete] post. Examples of questions:

    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a GTX 1070. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case < $50

    Remember that Discord is great places to ask quick questions as well: http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/wiki/livechat

    Friendly reminder to doublecheck stuff even you are used to build lots of systems :).

    Fun fact: this PC ran 24/7 couple of years used for basic graphics/video editing, newsletters, flyers, infosheets etc... Never ran into problems.

    Ryzen 2600 + RTX 3080 for 1440p 144gz

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 02:41 AM PDT

    Hey guys, I want to move to 1440p 144hz gaming, I'm going to get my hands on new NVidia GPU but do I need to plan on upgrading my CPU or will it handle it? I have it on stock with Arctic Freezer 34 eSports DUO cooler, never overclocked CPU, kind of scary.

    $300-$400 used 2080ti worth it over $600 3070?

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 02:52 AM PDT

    In my country $300-$400 used 2080tis are popping up online with the announcement of the 30xx series. In contrast, local listings for upcoming new 3070s are up for about $600, presumably due to taxes and whatnot.

    Would you consider the used 2080tis worth it at this price assuming they run perfectly like they were new?

    Getting low FPS on a good PC

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 01:30 AM PDT

    Over the past few months, my friend has been experiencing low frame rates in many games, forcing him to put graphics on low to improve game performance when he should be able to run at least medium-high settings on most games he plays.

    PC specs are:

    • Ryzen 5 1500x.
    • Radeon RX 570 4GB.
    • 16GB of RAM.

    Things we've already tried:

    • Cleaning dust from the PC.
    • Updating drivers.
    • Using DDU to uninstall GPU drivers then reinstalling drivers.

    Examples of games he is experiencing low fps in include: Fortnite, Shadow of War, Resident Evil 2, Destiny 2, and Warhammer 2: Vermintide.

    Something interesting we discovered is that when we used the DDU tool to wipe and reinstall the GPU drivers, everything was seemingly fixed, and the FPS he was getting in games was good. However, upon shutting down the PC and turning it back on the next day, it was performing badly again.

    UserBenchmark: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/32021858

    If anyone could provide some ideas on what to do next to try and fix this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

    What are some pc building tips that aren’t often mentioned in build guides?

    How do GPU launches go?

    Posted: 07 Sep 2020 08:19 PM PDT

    With the release of the new 3000 series,

    Is there a time set for release on 17th? Like 00:00 UTC? Do you just spam f5 until you can buy it? (Can you buy through Nvidia website) Do retailers start selling them right after? Does it start with founders edition, are the main sellers like MSI for example going to sell at same time?

    Planning on upgrading to a 3070 from a 970, so I tried to make a list, would like opinions on it and better suggestions if needed!

    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 11:12 AM PDT

    Currently have:

    Graphics Card: 4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (MSI)

    CPU: Intel Core i5 4690K @ 3.50GHz

    RAM: 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 799MHz

    PSU: NOX Power supply NX Series 620W

    Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Pro4 (CPUSocket)

    Case: NOX COOLBAY VX

    ~~~
    From what I listed above, I practically have to upgrade all of those to match up with the power of the 3070, like how nvidia recommended a 740W power supply, I'm not very knowledgeable on them or their quality so I'd like help on that for sure, and as well for motherboard quality with no issues. Would probably need a bigger case too, and one with better airflow, along with more RAM and a better CPU.
    This is also my first time going AMD based so I'm just worried on how it will fair compared to intel.
    As for games that I'll be playing its a huge variety, but will definitely play upcoming games like cyberpunk and such. as Long as I'm pretty future proof I'm happy even if it's overkill for right now.
    The 2070 is just placeholder for the 3070's price, but what do you all think about this? I'm not sure myself as I have zero knowledge on PSU, motherboards and ram qualities, and even less so for AMD cpus so I'd appreciate help on those because the i7-10700k seems pretty expensive along with a matching motherboard.
    I plan on keeping my two hard drives for now, maybe will get a solid state in the future but it isn't a priority for now.
    Opinions on a cpu cooler/aio
    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 01:52 PM PDT
    Basically i'm going to be building in the corsair 220t airflow rgb case white. I was wondering if it'd be overkill to put an corsair hydro 100i white 240 mm in there for potentially a r5 3600/3700x. My other option was some type of noctua cpu tower but it just doesnt work aesthetically with the build.
    what do you think?
    Gaming PC
    Posted: 07 Sep 2020 08:07 PM PDT
    Ok so i dont really know much about building a pc ive never done this before so im a little nervous to Ask for help. Please dont mind my grammar im not the best at writing.
    Alright so i have been on Playstation and Laptop for most of my life and now that im 19 i want to build my first gaming pc i am going to have a Budget of $1100-1500 USD.
    The must haves for it to run (at preferrably high fps) Are: 1.Mount & Blade 2: bannerlord (most important one) 2. Fallout 4 (modded ofcourse, my current laptop can run modded Skyrim but it cant even touch normal Fallout 4) 3. For Honor
    Im not asking for you to just list everything i need but more of recommending or just giving general tips. Again I apologise for my grammar.
    (although if you do want to list some stuff i would be most thankful)
    An update on my first ever PC build coming straight from console :)
    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 11:41 AM PDT
    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3cChRk
    So I posted late last night my first attempt at a build (purely my research and judgment). I'll say for sure it was quite shit after hearing feedback from people here! Lol So I took a few suggestions into account: added a faster RAM, cheaper motherboard, and added an SSD (lol ikr).
    So here is my updated build! A few people said I may be overpaying for a monitor, but I was pretty set on 27" and was gunning for a 240Hz so I wouldn't need to upgrade it very soon (correct that if I am wrong lmao). Another person suggested that the mouse software was buggy, but I've seen way too many good things about that mouse that I feel like I'd put up with buggy software. Lol
    I manually added an RTX 3080 because I'll be attempting to get on at launch no matter how futile it may be, but I'll refuse to pay an equal price for a half as good card. Lol And if that makes me wait until 2021 then so be it!
    Note that I am also VERY confused on the CPU and I'm not sure if the 10th gen i5 10600K is the best for me being a casual gamer! I've read a lot about AMD and them being of better value, but everywhere I see says that Intel is the way to go if gaming is purely what you're looking for, but my judgment has been shit so.. Lol
    Practical difference between RX 570 and RX 580
    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 09:20 AM PDT
    I'm planning my first build and I'm leaning towards Ryzen 5 3600 with either a RX570 or RX580. I don't need something top of the line (yes, I know the 3000 series is coming, but I'm not going to spend $500 on a GPU), I just want something better than my current setup (i5-6400t and GT 710).
    I'm seeing benchmarks that show the RX580 getting some more fps than the 570, but I'm currently on a 60hz monitor and may not upgrade that for a while. Is it worth the extra $30-$40 to get an RX580?
    Games I play/am interested in playing:
    CIV VI
    Total War series
    Battlefront II
    Fallen Order
    Upgrading from Win 7 to Win 10 help
    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 10:44 AM PDT
    I had a 128gb ssd from 3 years ago and now bought a 1TB ssd to upgrade to windows 10.
    I got windows 10 to work as a fresh install but I wanted to know if it's possible to get everything back from the other ssd? I tried a backup in a 1tb hdd and tried to restore in win10 but it looks like nothing transferred... HELP!
    Do I just bite the bullet and reinstall everything fresh?
    CPU help
    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 12:00 PM PDT
    I was going to buy the ryzen 7 2700x because it's almost the same price as the 3600 plus I'll be doing a few cpu intensive things so I'd be using the extra CPU power, but I don't know if it'll be a good fit for something like the 3070 or if I should go with the 3700x or 3600
    Ryzen 1600 AF Problems
    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 07:21 AM PDT
    Howdy peeps,
    My gf and I were building a PC together for her and after getting all excited to finish, we were disappointed that it wouldn't boot.
    It got stuck on the CPU light. The CPU is a Ryzen 1600 AF. The box serial says YD1600BBAFBOX but the chip itself says YD1600BBM6IAF. I'm using an MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX.
    I tried a 3000G on the motherboard and that booted fine. I then used that to update to the latest BIOS. Still no luck with the 1600 AF however.
    The MSI CPU compatibility lists the YD1600BBM6IAF as compatible. But I know there's some weird thing with the AF version of the 1600 where it's actually a 2500 or something? In any case, I'm stumped.
    Could it be a bad CPU? I tried different RAM and in various combinations too, and no luck either. Anything else worth trying?
    Cheers.
    Will my mobo and cpu support a 3070?
    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 02:02 PM PDT
    I currently have an Asustek Strix z270e, an i7-7700k, and a 1080ti. I can't upgrade my cpu without upgrading the mobo as well so I'm curious if my setup will handle the 3070, even if it's throttled a little will it still be a big improvement from a 1080ti?
    Upgrading from rx580 4gb, ideas?
    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 02:02 PM PDT
    Hey all, I'm looking to upgrade my rx580 4gb sapphire nitro+. I'm running a ryzen 3300x atm and only have a 75hz 1080p monitor which I don't want to change. Looking for something between £200-£300. Whats my best option? Was looking at the rx5600xt but I'm also seeing some cheap rtx2060super cards right now.
    Thanks :)
    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 01:52 PM PDT
    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 01:52 PM PDT
    Hopefully balanced build looking for feedback
    Posted: 08 Sep 2020 01:46 PM PDT
    Looking for feedback before pulling the trigger to buy this build. I already have an M2 solid state drive sitting ready as well as several larger drives for other files.
    My goal is to build a PC able to run all the new games for years to come in addition to some programming. In addition,I would like to have upgrade options but do currently have a budget of less than 1500.
    Thank you again any feedback appreciated
