AMD 3600x vs i5-9600k Yes, i searched. I'm sorry. Posted: 23 Jul 2020 07:00 PM PDT **Thank you everyone for all the advice. I really wasn't expecting so much at once(thats what she said). I'v decided to go the AMD route, but going to tweak some of the details. So we'll see what happens!** So its coming down to the wire and I need to pull the trigger within the next couple hours. I just cant decide. This will be primarily for 1080p gaming. These 2 builds are almost identical besides cpu's. I prefer intel and was dead set on it until i read that amd will be more future proof because of the use of hyper threading. BUT, if I'm using a 9600k, wont intel also be reasonably futreproof because I can always upgrade to a newer I7 or I9 1151 in the future? Both builds will be: mITX 32gb 3200 ram rtx 2070 super 500gb NVMe 500 ssd [link] [comments] |

Posted: 24 Jul 2020 08:56 AM PDT Hello everyone! I(23) always wanted to build a PC ever since when I was a teenager(16), but I couldn't do it due to financial issues. Now that I'm working full time, I'm able to save up and put together in a case I've always wanted; the improved version of S340. Specs: CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 CPU Cooler: Deepcool GAMMAX GTE V2 White Motherboard: MSI B450 Tomahawk Max RAM: TEAMGROUP T-Force Delta RGB DDR4 16GB 3200MHz (White) Storage: 1TB Crucial 3D NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD | 2TB WD Black 3.5" HDD GPU: Zotac RTX 2060 AMP Case: NZXT H510 PSU: CoolerMaster MWE Gold 550w 80+ Gold Fully Modular Total: $1050 USD Monitor: AOC 24G2 24" IPS Monitor, FHD 1080P, 1ms 144Hz Cost: $215 USD Peripherals: Keyboard: Tecware Phantom 87 Key Mechanical Keyboard (Brown Switch) Mouse: Logitech G203 Mousepad: Some RGB Mousepad I got from lazada Cost: $88 USD It took me around 6 hours and that was a rather fun yet stressful experience since some of the parts such as RAM requires more force to be clicked in than I expected and figuring out the optimal way to cable manage the thinner cables. So far the PC has been getting 100+ fps in games that I play and I absolutely love it! In a month or so I plan to purchase White PSU Sleeves as well as White RGB Fans so I can achieve the white theme I'm aiming for. Thanks to LinusTechTips, Bitwit, JayTwoCents, Paul's hardware and this subreddit for the PC Build guides and recommendations for a $1000~ PC build. Any recommendations is welcome! [link] [comments] |

How can I improve my case cooling? (Sleeper PC) Posted: 24 Jul 2020 12:36 PM PDT I need some advice on air flow balance in my Sleeper PC. I will provide pictures below for reference. I have 3 40mm Noctuas in a HDD bay acting as intake, and 1 80mm Intake at the bottom(though if you look at the face of the pc, I doubt it's bringing much air in at all.) I have 1 80mm exhaust, and a NH-U12S. My pictures provide the direction of air flow as well. My temps are good, but I think I could make improvements. Near my GPU, I was deciding if to add intake or exhaust, but honestly not sure. I have a 3.5 bay where my floppy drive is(just for looks,) and I believe I could find a way to mount intake fans, then use the space near the GPU as exhaust.... Any help appreciated. Windows Just Uninstalled My Motherboard's Audio Driver, and Won't Let Me Put It Back. Help! Posted: 24 Jul 2020 11:05 AM PDT So my build is going okay, but Windows Update just kicked my onboard audio devices out of the device manager, leaving only the crappy headphone port on the back of my monitor. Windows can't recognize the onboard audio ports, or the mic/headphone ports on the front of the case. On top of that, it's being quite a bastard about putting it back. I downloaded the driver packs from my motherboard's support page (ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4, if you're curious), went through the setup, and it's still not there. It doesn't even show up as a hidden device. I tried reinstalling it as legacy hardware, adding the driver manually, tried adding it in Safe Mode, I even did another clean install, and all I got was Blue Screens of Death. A friend of mine recommended I get the driver with Snappy Driver Installer Origin, but I'm dubious about whether it will work. What can I do about this? Is it very common? Are there any ways around it, like generic drivers? [link] [comments] |
GPU just caught fire the first time powering on my new PC build Posted: 23 Jul 2020 08:43 PM PDT Just put together a new pc, it wouldn't power on and I read online to try plugging it directly into the wall (it was plugged into a power strip) Plugged it directly into the wall, turned it on and flames started shooting from the video card. Unplugged it right away but now am wondering what components failed here? Not sure what all I will need to RMA or how I will even test anything. Afraid to make things even worse. I have built multiple systems over the years and never had any problem like this. Specs: Ryzen 3700x Seasonic FOCUS PX-750, 750W 80+ Platinum MSI MPG B550 GAMING PLUS AM4 AMD B550 and the video card was a Geforce 970 I pulled from an old system that had worked fine until today [link] [comments] |

Posted: 24 Jul 2020 10:10 AM PDT Hey there, I am currently saving up to buy a new pc and have done some research on pcpartpicker, YouTube and other websites. My current PC is not able to handle 4k editing at all and I really need an upgrade. This is my current setup I will try to sell in a month: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/DFhNtp Could someone give me an estimate on how much I will get for my old PC? I am not selling peripherals and hard drives. It is in great condition and am hoping for 500-600€. This is my setup, the price given by pcpartpicker is not accurate at all due to location and availability, which is why I've added the actual price of the components on mindfactory.de at the end. I already own peripherals and SSDs, which is why I have left out prices on these parts. Things I am not so sure about: - I've never done anything RGB-wise or anything with liquid cooling. Will the liquid cooling be compatible with the RGB stuff on the motherboard and case and will the liquid cooling fans fit on the front? - Also: will the cooling be sufficient if I put the liquid cooling on the front panel of the NZXT case? I am uncertain whether it will pull in enough air because this case has only a side intake on the front. - Is the graphics card overkill? I am professionally editing 4K video A7iii footage using Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects and I code for work. I also plan on streaming and gaming (just for fun, I am nowhere near professional). I would like to have a future-proof card that handles these tasks easily. 1200€ still seems like a lot for this card. Could you help me answer these questions? Thanks in advance for any input, it is very much appreciated! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 24 Jul 2020 01:30 PM PDT I received a 10% coupon from Corsair via text. It says the white cooler doesn't qualify! I read the TS and it meets the criteria... what a bunch of crap. Anyone have a similar issue? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jul 2020 01:06 PM PDT Hi all Keep having crashes with my 5700XT that result in the PC black screening and restarting itself with no error messages/black screens. Previously I had default fan curves on the GPU but I've tuned them quite harshly to try and see if it will combat the black screen. Are these fan curves acceptable? If not - please recommend how I change them to make it better. Imgur is linked below! Thanks! [link] [comments] |
First timer looking to upgrade OTS desktop. Posted: 24 Jul 2020 11:31 AM PDT Read title. About me: I've been around computers my whole life, I know the basics and I have a tangential background in circuitry. The PC is somewhat old, it's a desktop (ofc), it suits my browsing needs, but I want to use it for some casual gaming and it has serious trouble with most any 3D game made in the last decade. I know I want to upgrade the GPU, and possibly the RAM. A few questions: 1: Is there something I can check inside my PC to verify that it can actually be refitted with an aftermarket GPU? 2: If I upgrade my GPU, is it necessary to upgrade the RAM along with it? (IE, do modern games require more than just a good GPU to run well?) 3: I run Linux Mint because the original OS was infested with viruses. How much of a complication will that be for upgrade compatibility? (Thinking in terms of drivers for example.) [link] [comments] |
Pc freezes while installing windows Posted: 24 Jul 2020 09:19 AM PDT Its my first build, installing windows 10 went pretty smooth until my pc has to reboot it says its preparing some stuff thats normal then i think it reboots again and then after about 10 seconds it freezes but i can still use my mouse if my mouse shows up i have done this multiple times . Pre-Built Alienware, Looking to upgrade. Posted: 24 Jul 2020 12:36 PM PDT Hello friends, A good buddy of mine is looking to upgrade his Alienware Aurora R9 (link is not his actual pc, his is no longer made.) and asked me for help. He wants an SSD, and another stick of ram. His computer came with 1 stick of 8g ddr4 ram, and I suggested he get another 8g stick to utilize dual channel and what-not. His SSD simply needs to be 1tb, and I've been browsing through a few. I'm open to suggestions, and I would love to hear your input on what RAM and SSD he should get for his build. TL/DR; Buddy has an aurora r9 Alienware and needs 1 8gb ram stick and SSD, please suggest stuff for me. PS, I built my own gaming pc (last October) based off of advice and input from this community. I couldn't be happier. Thank you all for your help!!! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jul 2020 02:32 PM PDT I am curious when it comes to the temperatures in my first custom built PC. All the temperatures read around 45-55 degrees for the most part. Except one that reads around 62-66 degrees under load. Is this normal for just one temperature to be much higher than the others? Or is there an internal issue somewhere I should find? PC has a ryzen 3600 and a Corsair H100 all in one cooler. Thank you. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 24 Jul 2020 12:09 PM PDT This is my first pc and picking the parts was definitely difficult. It took a lot of research and time, but after many suggestions this is what I came up with. Is this build good? P.S. My budget is ~$1000 but I went slightly over which is fine [link] [comments] |
Posted: 24 Jul 2020 12:25 AM PDT Hi all. Firstly - I apologize whilst I have built PCs in the past, I am getting old and not up to date with the current PCs and what's possible or not. Please forgive my ignorance. Both myself and my wife are gamers and work from home on our PCs. Whilst my PC is fairly modern and in no need of an upgrade any time soon my poor wife's PC not so much (it's a bit of a Frankenstein's monster made up of old parts from my PC.) The wifes PC is going to be in need of an upgrade soon - probably in the next year or two. My question - rather than buying and upgrading two PCs constantly. Is it possible to build a single 'super' PC and have two profiles so that two people can use the one PC simultaneously? I guess the PC in question would act more like a server than a traditional PC. If it is possible - can anyone provide some suggestions on what I need to look at as most PC's I have ever built in the past have been for individual use (as in, one user per PC). I understand that this is hypothetical at this stage which may make answers difficult. I saw a youtube video of a rather large tech tuber looking at the insides of a 'gaming' cloud-based server which got me even more interested. What's your thoughts, is it possible? Or would the cost be so astronomical that it wouldn't be worth it. [link] [comments] |
Built a pc, no problems, then this morning Posted: 24 Jul 2020 02:15 PM PDT Hey guys, last night I finished my first build and was shocked to find I did it all ok the first time. Outside some issues getting windows 10 on my nvme, all was good. This morning I booted up to a "winresume.efi" error. I went ahead and disabled my other drives physically and then plugged in my bootable usb to try to repair or investigate. Here's where it gets wierd: when the usb is plugged in, my nvme disappears from my bio list and is not visible in the windows usb installer. When i unplug the usb and check bios, it shows up fine. Another random detail that might be significant is it appears windows tried to do some repair on this random drive related to my ryujin aio (which i didn't disconnect). It now says something about uefi when its visible in bios. What do you guys think, user error, hardware failure, software issue? Reallt wierd territory for me. Pretty comfortable in general with installing oses, but nvme is giving me headache after headache. Nvme is a sabrent rocket 4.0, aorus master x570 mobo. Can provide any other information, really appreciate a nudge in the right direction. Here I thought I was gonna spend my rona' bday playing games at least [link] [comments] |
