After 14 months of gaming, suddenly the PC stopped working.

    Posted: 12 Jul 2020 05:17 AM PDT

Ohh boy so here's the story. Over the past few months I barely had problems while gaming with my PC. However, recently the PC has been shutting down randomly.

To be more precise, the PC did not shut down but the monitor received no signal suddenly while I was browsing/gaming and the fans would start to spin very rapidly. While the mouse and the keyboard still lit up.

The only way to fix this was to turn the power off and back on again. Then it would take me to a screen where I could press ALT +L to run the last known good configuration before I would be directed to the BIOS. Closing the bios without changing anything would lead it to go back to normal. I Think this happened at least 10 times over the past 2 months.

5 days ago, the PC suddenly would not display anything at all on my monitor. The rgb lights. Case fans and gpu light turns on but the CPU fan and GPU fans do not spin. In addition I noticed that the white led EZ debug light on my MSI motherboard is on. One more weird thing is that the power button (circle) that used to light up once it was pressed now is not lighting up anymore. I have tried different displayport /hdmi cables (with and without gpu) , putting the cpu fan in a normal fan socket and clearing the CMOS. However the exact same problem persists.

Any suggestions what I can try next? Since this is my very first build I am thinking to just not mess around with it anymore and hire a guy that has more knowledge on this to come take a look.

Edit: forgot to mention something important maybe: This complete shutdown occured like 1.5 weeks after I enabled ultra low latency / low latency mode in the nvidia control panel.

    Here is what I have:

    Upgrading CPU and RAM

    Posted: 12 Jul 2020 03:06 AM PDT

Is it worth it to upgrade my intel i5 2500k to an AMD ryzen 9 3950X? Also, for RAM is it worth going from 12 GB of RAM to 32? I do game quite a bit and am looking to get dual NVIDIA 1650s, but if the CPU I have now can handle that then I don't want to waste money.

    HDD or SSD?

    Posted: 12 Jul 2020 11:29 AM PDT

Hello! Is 1 TB of SSD or 2 TB of HHD and 256 GB of SSD better for a gaming build? I mainly play Overwatch, Minecraft, and Fortnite.

My budget is $800 (not including peripherals).

    CSGO E-Sports PC Advice

    Posted: 12 Jul 2020 04:43 AM PDT

I'm planning to upgrade my PC and wanted to go for something like this, would appreciate it if you would rate it:

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700xGPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER Gaming OCMotherboard: ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4RAM: 2x ADATA XPG Gammix D10 DIMM 8 GBPower Supply: be Quiet! Pure Power 11 ATX 500 WCase: Corsair Carbide Series 100RSSD: Crucial MX 500 512 GBHeat Sink: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

I will mainly use it for CSGO but might play stuff like Assassins Creed in the future, the main focus is to get stable high FPS in CSGO, atleast 250+, not less than 200 in hectic situations. Don't start the "You don't need more than 144 FPS when you have a 144Hz monitor debate pls, it does make a difference to have 200+ FPS.

    I appreciate every input :)

Edit: This is the build I think about getting after all the comments: https://geizhals.de/?cat=WL3

    AiO or Air cooler

    Posted: 12 Jul 2020 12:41 PM PDT

So I bought an i7 9700k and I only want to boost it to 5ghz without over clocking it. And I need to buy a new cooler. Are the AIOs cooler worth it? Are they safe.? I was wondering if a leak happens my whole rig would be destroyed. I was thinking of buying an 120mm radiator AIO because that's just enough for what I need. What's your opinions? Should I go for the AIO or the normal air aftermarket cooler (I was thinking to buy the deepcool L120 rgb V2 or any air-cooler in the 60€ price range)

Roommate needs to upgrade CPU/MoBo on a budget. Ryzen 5 1600 / tomohawk or something else?

    Posted: 12 Jul 2020 01:21 PM PDT

My roommate has an old gaming pc that he uses for illustrator, youtube, and light gaming. He is complaining about speed and wants a low budget upgrade. I think he wants an AMD chip with a B450 mobo and I have some ram to give him.

    *Budget: <$300*

    Current Build:

    CPU Core 2 Extreme X9650 4 core

    MoBo Asus PSK-E

    Memory 8 gb DDR(2?) ram

    GPU 1050ti

    PSU 500w psu

Storage 1tb noname HDD 7200 rpm

    Case random antec ATX case

    My suggestion:

    CPU | [AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (12nm) 3.2 GHz 6-Core Processor](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/8HqBD3/amd-ryzen-5-1600-12nm-32-ghz-6-core-processor-yd1600bbafbox) | Wait for <$120

    Motherboard | [MSI B450 TOMAHAWK ATX AM4 Motherboard](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Hy97YJ/msi-b450-tomahawk-atx-am4-motherboard-b450-tomahawk) |Wait for <$120

    Memory | [G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Cf98TW/gskill-memory-f43200c16d16gvkb) |$0 - I'll give

    Storage | [Western Digital Blue SN550 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/zFK2FT/western-digital-blue-sn550-500-gb-m2-2280-nvme-solid-state-drive-wds500g2b0c) | $59.99 @ Amazon

    Total: $300

Haven't built a PC in almost a decade...could use some feedback!

    Posted: 12 Jul 2020 10:58 AM PDT

So I'm finally ready to retire my old PC (still rocking a Phenom II X4 265BE and a Radeon 7770) and I want to splurge on something that'll hopefully last me another 8 years. I want to be able to overclock and upgrade if needed. The current setup is actually totally fine for light gaming but it chokes hard when it comes to video editing and streaming, and I want to be able to play/stream future games flawlessly in 1080p. I haven't looked at PC components in years so I'm still trying to get a handle on everything that's changed in the PC world. I could use some feedback!

Here's my parts list so far.

    • Mobo: MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk (maybe overkill, but I wanted a little bit of future-proofing)
    • CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x + Scythe Fuma 2 CPU cooler
    • GPU: Gigabye Geforce RTX 2060 6GB
    • RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4-3600 MHz
    • Storage: 2 x Adata XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB (NVMe)
    • PSU: Corsair HX850 (overkill but I got one for free so might as well use it!)
    • Case: Phanteks P400A Digital

    Thanks!

Hello! Please help with my new pc not turning on.

    Posted: 12 Jul 2020 07:39 AM PDT

    Hello everyone. Please help.

I am having issues with my recently-built PC.

It's a little over two weeks old. I made sure to connect everything well and I have been using it every day for hours with no issue. But now it will not turn on at all.

I turned it off normally last night and turned off the power regulator, so it was basically unplugged during the night. However, when I went to turn it on this morning, nothing happened.

I double checked the connections of the power button, the motherboard, CPU, and GPU. I also tried with an old PSU, the screwdriver trick to jump the board and I got nothing. No fans, no lights, no movement whatsoever. The only thing that happens is that when I turn on the power supply (both) with the switch in the back, the mobo's audio led turns on and immediately powers down.

I had no warning. It was working fine just 10 hours ago. Temps were fine, voltage too, I do not do OC, nothing was spilled, everything is clean and the only old components are the GPU and the case itself.

I think is the motherboard but I am very concerned about other components being damaged too. What do you guys think?

Now, if it is in fact the motherboard, I can still return it and maybe go with a B550 Steel Legend.

My pc specs are: Ryzen 3600x, AORUS B450M ELITE, 8gbs of RAM Patriot Viper at 3200mhz (I did have XMP on), 650w Corsair brand new PSU and I am even using an old amd GPU X9 280, so the power draw is not that much?

Anyway, I would really appreciate your assistance with this. It seems I cannot catch a break as I first had issues with my old PSU, which I replaced for the 650w one and now this.

I know you guys know how frustrating these pc issues can be, so I appreciate your time and input.

Have a great day and thank you.

    Posted: 12 Jul 2020 03:53 AM PDT

I have a headset g430 and a mouse g300. Immediatly after buying g430 headset i noticed huge problem with sound low quality low sound, the plastic broke after 1-2 months, mic died, pads fell off. Mouse also causes problems with clicking on the right side button, also after couple of months side button broke and fell off. So i was wondering should i invest in another logitech gear or they are just cheap low quality company?

PC Won't Start (RAM Lights up) Please Help

    Posted: 12 Jul 2020 01:58 PM PDT

    Specs:

    Ryzen 7 3700

    Nvidia 2070 Super

16 GB Corsair vengeance pro RAM

    Aorus X570 Pro Wifi Mobo

    Corsair 650w PSU

    Corsair iCue 465x Case

So my computer was working fine Friday during the day, put it on sleep mode and left it, nothing has changed. Wake up today and wiggle the mouse to wake it up, nothing. Only thing was the RGB ram was lit up. Tried powering off the whole PC and plugged everything back in to boot it up. Once I flip the power switch on the PSU the RGB lights up on the RAM sticks, but when I push the power button on the case to start the computer nothing happens. I pulled out the PSU and did the paperclip test and it powered on my system with the paperclip in the psu. IDK what is going on.

Game I play are Valorant, R6, Minecraft, GTA, Warzone. Nothing too heavy.

Looking for CPU to pair with my 2070 Super

    Posted: 12 Jul 2020 08:57 AM PDT

I recently got a 2070 Super but it's obvious I need to upgrade my Ryzen 5 2600 because I am not getting the performance I was expecting. I don't keep up with hardware that much so I was looking for advice on which CPU to upgrade to.

I'd like to upgrade as soon as possible but I don't know if it would be worth it to wait for the new generation because I haven't seen a release date.

first build in 10 years - Ready to order. Could someone check my build? (3800x/5700xt)

    Posted: 12 Jul 2020 05:40 AM PDT

    Build Help/Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)

    yes, I sure have.

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

30% music library management, Flac/WAV/Alac conversions. (Have over 6 Tb) with plans for Seperate DAC/ headphone Amp when build is completed.

25% Lightroom with plenty of RAW/jpeg converting.

    25% general internet use.

20% I don't game but would like the ability to.

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

1440p with 60 FPS with the Dell monitors I'll be purchasing as well.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

Around $2000 maybe a bit more.

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

    United States

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

Provide any additional details you wish below.

So this build is to replace my overclocked I5-760 Lynnfield workhorse i built in late 2010 who's main drive started dying last month. I have already purchased the Samsung 860 evo to clone the old drive when I decided that all this work into a 10 year old pc may not be worth it and will be putting the sdd toward the new build.

This will be an all air build with no RGB's. The case is in my living room so I was looking for something low key in the room but built up inside. I have always wanted to do an all Noctua fan build hence the fan choices and cooler. The Fan setup will be 2 140mm for case intake and the 120 and 140 at the top back of the case for exhaust. Im planning this for long term use with minimal cpu upgrades as you can see from old build. I decided to go to AMD from Intel because Lightroom can take better advantage of the Ryzen multi core. I debated recycling my old Asus sonar soundcard but now am going with a separate DAC / headphone amp to reduce interference. I'll be bringing over two other 3tb HDD drives from my old build that has all my music and pictures on it. Another reason I picked this case. I really wanted a cube case but cannot find one that isn't huge or outdated.

I think my main questions involve the motherboard and video card as to whether they are good choices. I was considering the ASRock x570 but had concerns due to negative comments about the chipset fan being loud. I then found the MSI Mortar MB however it has no real user reviews yet. The GPU I picked mainly because it had no RGB on it but looks beefy. Is it to large for a m-atx build? I originally choose the 3700 but upped it to a 3800 when I realized it was only $40 more.

Any help or comments would be appreciated.

I need help building my first Custom PC. I have little to no knowledge so any feedback is appreciated.

I am intending to use my build for multiple hours of gaming a day. Would like a lot of FPS for games like GTA and other FPS games like Rainbow Six Siege and Warzone, but I don't want anything out of this world.

I would like good framerate and resolution, preferably at least 100fps

My budget is around £1,200 but would go up to £1,500 if there is a big improvement in performance with an extra £300.

I am purchasing from England (UK)

I really don't know much but this is what I can build and I'm sure there's lots to improve and I'm not even entirely sure this'll work even though it says it is compatible. I would like to leave room for upgrades in the future but for now I just want an upgrade on my crappy 60fps Gaming laptop.

    Advice for new GPU

    Posted: 12 Jul 2020 01:48 PM PDT

Good afternoon/evening everyone. I've been thinking about upgrading my GPU by the end of the year. I currently own a 1060 OC, which is now showing it's age considering it's from 2016. I have a CPU capable of handling up to a 2080 standard, so it's not a problem. Given the high price in my country on the RTX cards, I've been thinking about buying a 5600XT/5700XT, which are a bit cheaper. Would you guys say I will have a significant performance increase buying one of those? (considering my 1060 is highly overclocked, so it's basically a 980 in comparison.) Or do you guys think I should wait until the newest RTX releases and the 'older' ones become more budget-friendly?

Any help is appreciated, since I'm honestly a bit lost about new generation GPUs.

    My HDD/SSD just started "beep-ing"

    Posted: 12 Jul 2020 01:43 PM PDT

I left my PC on for a few hours on and when i come back i heard beeping. Beeping is coming from my HDDs or SSD. I have 2x 3.5 inch HDDs 1x SSD 1x 2.5 HDD My 2 big HDDs are hot to touch, and my system takes 10-15 minutes to load (it's usually less than a minute). What could this be? How can i fix it?

Possibly the strangest dualshock 4 bug I’ve experienced

    Posted: 12 Jul 2020 07:29 AM PDT

The down button on my D-Pad sometimes does not work. I always thought it was bad contact within the controller so I have gotten used to taking it apart and giving it a clean. It works fine after this.

But for the past few months I have not had an issue with the button at all. It's worked completely fine. But then I downloaded fortnite on my PC and played it for a bit and then the button stopped working again. I, again, disassembled it and cleaned it and it worked again. I loaded up fortnite and it stopped working again!

This time I didn't disassemble but simply reset the controller using a pin on the small button on the back. This fixed the button but whenever I load up fortnite the button stops working again. And not just in fortnite, the button straight up stops registering input until I reset or disassemble and clean.

I have never heard of a game causing issues like this before, is there any clear fix for this?

This used to happen when I used play fortnite on ps4 as well but I just didn't realise that the game was the culprit.
