High-end Nvidia gaming GPU upgrade possibilities with a 650w PSU Posted: 29 Jun 2020 04:13 AM PDT I currently have an EVGA 1080 Ti and a 9700k overclocked to 4.9Ghz with a Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Pro. I'm looking to better understand what my GPU upgrade possibilities are over the coming months, perhaps unsurprisingly, in preparation for playing Cyberpunk 2077 in the highest fidelity possible using my current rig. Since it's not yet released, system requirements are unknown so my 1080 Ti might still be able to squeeze out 100+ frames on maximum settings, but I won't be holding my breath. That being said... My current monitor is 1080p ultrawide 144hz G-Sync. So the pixel count is effectively between 16:9 1080p and 16:9 1440p. I will be upgrading to a 1440p 144hz ultrawide in the next 18 months however. So the new GPU must be capable of high frame rate performance at 1440p. My PSU is an EVGA 650W G3, which is 80 Plus Gold rated. Pertinant to my question is that it is capable of delivering 650w to a single 12v rail, which in my understanding is where the two most power-hungry components - the GPU and CPU - draw their power from. I did a power consumption test using OCCT and my OC'd 9700k drew, at peak, 215W. So, theoretically I could comfortably hook up even a 2080 Ti, which, according to this Tom's Hardware article, consumes 279W under a gaming load. Looking at the numbers: 650-279-215 = 156W of "headroom". The OuterVision power supply requirements calculator supports my numbers too. Am I missing anything to suggest that I should be wary of using a 2080 Ti (with stock BIOS) in my system? I am more interested in the 3xxx series of cards, which are predicted to be more power efficient, which can only be a good thing in my situation. But since they are not released yet, it is still all pure speculation. [link] [comments]
Problems with RAM detection - Any help greatly appreciated Posted: 29 Jun 2020 04:27 AM PDT For the past two weeks, I have been troubleshooting my 3-month-old PC in response to a problem that started occurring with my RAM. I had reinstalled Windows 10 and everything worked fine for two days, until one morning I booted up my PC and it didn't start. The DRAM debug LED was turned on and there was no post. I tried every stick individually and the PC posted with each one. When I combined two sticks in dual channel, the PC posted but only detected 8GB of the 16GB that were installed. If I tried to use all four, the PC would once again not post and the DRAM LED turns on. Since I had tried all four individually, I assumed the problem to be elsewhere. I returned my mobo, swapping it out for the same one, but the problem persisted. Next, I thought it could be the memory controller on the CPU, so I returned that too, and still, the problem continued. Neither CPU had any bent pins. I still had an old PSU laying around, so I tested that too to see if my PSU was the problem, but alas. After none of the hardware changes fixed the problem, I moved on to software. I was on the most recent BIOS, so I flashed the oldest possible version. This was a step in the right direction as the PC now posted with all four sticks installed and detected 16GB in the BIOS, but still not the full 32GB. Another strange issue here was that the XMP Profile had some very strange values. I cleared the CMOS multiple times during the above tests. I also made sure that all cables were plugged in properly and reseated the CPU. Specs: CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X Mobo: MSI X470 Gaming Pro Max RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 32GB (4x8) 3600 CL18 GPU: Zotac GTX 1070 Amp! Edition PSU: Corsair RM750X CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i I originally thought it couldn't be the RAM because all sticks work individually but now I am not so sure. I am starting to lose my mind and would greatly appreciate any help that anyone can provide. [link] [comments]
Sanity post for people thinking about building Posted: 29 Jun 2020 07:23 AM PDT So I just finished my first ground-up build and I wanted to make a post just to help out people like me. Obviously it's a good idea to spend a fair amount of time doing research and learning what's what before you start building, especially if you've never done it before; that's where this sub can be a lifesaver. I've been working on getting parts and planning things out for a few months now, and this sub has been very helpful in getting me ready for the build, which I finished yesterday. Having said that, it's important to remember that the majority of posts on this sub are people asking for help. This is great, since this is what the sub is for, but it can make it seem like problems are more common than they are. Not many people come here to post about how "just did my average-ass build, worked great, no issues," but rather come here to post about how they couldn't post or their GPU isn't working or their ram timings are wrong, etc. Hence this post. I bought all my parts of the last month and a half or so, finally got the last components yesterday, and spent the afternoon assembling. Start to finish was about 3 hours from opening the first box to having the desktop. It posted on the first try, BIOS setup made sense, drivers downloaded with no issues, and everything since then has been running like a dream. tl;dr - Don't let this sub freak you out. People come here with questions and problems, but that doesn't mean your rig won't just work. Make sure you do your research and take your time building and odds are you'll be just fine. Also in case anyone cares here are specs. [link] [comments]
In order to upgrade to an i5 10600, what parts of my pc need to be upgraded? Posted: 29 Jun 2020 05:03 AM PDT My current specs CPU: i3-3220 Motherboard: Gigabyte H61M-S2PV (rev. 3.0) Memory: 8gb ddr3 Storage: WD 1tb Graphics Card: GTX 1050ti Power Supply: Corsair 450W [link] [comments]
FIRST BUILD- Nothing happens when switched on apart from MOBO LEDs Posted: 29 Jun 2020 04:21 AM PDT Hello, EDIT!! PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED (read below for details) I have just built my first ITX PC. However when I plug everything in and switch on the computer from the case nothing happens apart from the LEDs on the motherboard turning on. No fans, no case LEDs, nothing.
This is my build: CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX B450 i RAM: T- Force 2x16gb 3200hz PSU: Corsair SF600 (Platinum) GPU: Nvidia RTX 2060 Super SSD: M.2 Samsung 970 Evo 1tb I am using the QB One Sharkoon case and AMD stock cooler for now (I am waiting for my Dan A4 case and Black Ridge cpu cooler) At first I thought it may be a problem with the RAM however I contacted T-Force and they said it's ok. I then think it could be something to do with the case cables not plugged correctly. I was a bit confused by the LED connectors. If anyone could give me some guidance on how to get my PC working that would be great! I can add pictures if that helps. EDIT!!! Thank you for all the help! I noticed on my front panel of the case, one of the wires connecting the power button came loose. I also used the ASUS adapter for the HDD/RESET/POWER cables. As my RAM was in the way at the time I didn't push the adapter far enough into the socket. Once I removed 1 RAM I could see the issue. I plugged the adapter in full and then used a screwdriver to turn on the power. Fans, GPU the whole lot now turns on. I am now going to try and plug into my monitor. Hopefully the rest goes to plan. Thanks. [link] [comments]
I've never built a computer before, any advice on what I've got so far? Posted: 29 Jun 2020 01:49 PM PDT Hi all! New to reddit and new to building PCs, but I realized that my old gaming laptop isn't going to cut it anymore and I might as well invest in something that I can upgrade more easily in the future. I've been using Newegg and a bunch of top-10 lists to help me narrow down parts, but I definitely want to get some second opinions before committing to anything.
I'm still figuring out storage - I read somewhere that I should get a hard drive and an SSD, is there a certain amount of TB and GB I should be looking for, respectively? I think everything else should be compatible. Any advice you can offer would be really appreciated! - Emily Edited to add: PCPartPicker Part List

Posted: 29 Jun 2020 03:00 PM PDT Hey ya'll. I'm looking to replace my office chair of 20+ years (it was a hand-me-down from my father) and I have no idea where to look. 'Best Chair" articles are overwhelming. I've been looking on and off for one for about 2 years now. Everything is so expensive and my budget is $100-150. I'd prefer a chair that is either all black or black w/ white accents so it matches my space. It also must be a high back, wide chair (for maximum comfort!). I could really use some recommendations. I'm sure I'm not the only one who had this problem. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Should I enable XMP on my ryzen 5 1600? Posted: 29 Jun 2020 02:47 AM PDT I've heard people say that xmp doesn't always work and that it crashed their computer. I currently have 3200MHz ram running at 2133MHz I know absolutely nothing about OC'ing so any advice helps! [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Jun 2020 06:17 AM PDT Hey all, I plan on upgrading my EVGA 650W G3 Supernova PSU to an 850W G5, are the cables from the G3 compatible with the G5? I've referred to the EVGA compatibility page and I reckon they are but I'm turning to this community to double check. [link] [comments]
Low GPU usages in all games, without any bottlenecks. Posted: 29 Jun 2020 04:36 AM PDT Spec: GPU:RTX 2060 CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 Ram:16GB(8x2) 3600mhz Mobo:B450 Gaming Pro Carbon ac I have a very low gpu usage in all games(checked using msi afterburner). In fortnite I have about 15% usage, all settings on low. I get about 160 to 200 fps which definitely good but way far from what it should be. When i pump my settings to ultra. I get about 30 percent usage. GTA V, I Get 30% on max settings, same thing with League of legends. From what I know my CPU isn't a problem. I cant really find any solution except a windows reinstall but I want to keep that if i really become hopeless(As that might not work as well) [link] [comments]
Need help with a compatibility issue from pcpartpicker Posted: 29 Jun 2020 12:19 PM PDT "NZXT H710i ATX Mid Tower Case has a front panel USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C port that can connect to the Asus PRIME Z490-P ATX LGA1200 Motherboard USB 3.2 Gen 1 header. A separate USB 3.2 Gen 1 to USB 3.2 Gen 2 header adapter will be required." I know this is pretty straightforward, but to fix this issue all I really need to do is buy a Gen 1 to Gen 2 adapter, correct? If so, any recommendations on a product? I googled but there doesn't seem to be anything too decisive. Thanks. [link] [comments]

Completed my second build over the weekend. The only thing I kept from my original build is GPU (upgrading next flagship models), HDDs and AIO. Going to add the LIAN-LI 24 pin and PCIe RGB cables in the future and probably a fan hub to eliminate cables. [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Jun 2020 11:54 AM PDT I have the opportunity to upgrade to a 2060 from a 1660 Super at basically no cost, is it worth doing so? It's paired with a Ryzen 3600 on a B450 Tomahawk Max, 16gb 3200hz ram if relevant. [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Jun 2020 06:15 AM PDT My motherboards manual says the maximum amount of PCIe cards at once is 1 PCIe 3.0 or 2.0 x16 slot My question is, does my graphics card count towards this PCIe limit, even though I see more than 1 PCIe slot on my motherboard (see below) [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Jun 2020 03:29 PM PDT So this is my first build ever, and although i have made some research I´m still having doubts if this build I'm making fits together. Knowing what connects or plugs into what on the motherboard Posted: 29 Jun 2020 01:00 PM PDT Hey everyone, first time PC builder here. Is there any resource that can help me learn what pins correspond to all my different components to on the motherboard? I've been watching a good number of PC builds on YouTube, trying to follow them and it just seems completely intuitive to the builders but I have a hard time figuring out what is supposed to go where, what the relevant abbreviations are. Or like what I should connect to if I add additional fans or more than just the core 7 components, stuff like that. [link] [comments]
How do you know if a power supply will have the right connection for a motherboard? Posted: 29 Jun 2020 12:51 PM PDT I have bought a Corsair TXM Gold 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply as well as a MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard , but when i go to put the 8 pin into the motherboard it does not fit. are these not compatible or am i being really dumb? i checked on pc part picker and it says they will work together [link] [comments] |
