    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a GTX 1070. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case < $50

Working on my first PC build and made a parts ticket. Could someone glance over it, and give me some advice on how it looks?

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 12:22 AM PDT

    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rrtvYH

Budget is around 1200. See any incompatibilities or things I should change?

Is AMD my best option at that budget?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2020 10:56 PM PDT

Hi Reddit! I am a fan of PC building and I finally have enough savings to afford to build one. Even with the extensive research and YouTube videos that I have consumed, I still have some concerns about the build. I prefer that it retains the RGB.

CPU Cooler: upHere AC12RGB CPU Cooler ($49.99)

New PC Build Help $1200 Budget

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 10:02 AM PDT

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

Playing AAA games at consistent 144 FPS @ 1080p, most specifically COD Warzone

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

I want to be able to play all games at 144 fps @ 1080p with medium to high settings, and if possible at 1440p with medium settings (not sure if this is possible).

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

$1200 USD. I also have some existing parts, not sure what can be reused. See below. Hoping to reuse case, cooler (it's old, so please advise), psu (it's old but 650-750 W, so please advise), and disk storage (with the exception of a new 1 TB PCIE M.2 Drive).

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

    USA.

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

I want to upgrade/completely get a new computer. I'm using DDR3 and an older processor so I'd like to get something newer. Thinking of going with this, don't have much knowledge. Let me know what you think or if I can do better. I also want to add a pcie m.2 drive like this:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/hGyjhg - There are some errors so please help me understand them. Mainly the "The motherboard M.2 slot #1 shares bandwidth with a SATA 6.0 Gb/s port. When the M.2 slot is populated, one SATA 6.0 Gb/s port is disabled." Also I know nothing about motherboards so I picked a random one.

Provide any additional details you wish below.

I have an old computer and I want to upgrade. Please let me know if any parts are salvageable from here or if I should just get new things.

    Current build:

Processor: i7 3770k (had it for at least 6 years old at this point)

Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G45 (at least 6 years old at this point)

GPU: GTX 1080 - considering keeping this, let me know what you think, not sure if I can get a better GPU and keep the total cost under 1200

Cooler: Noctua NH-D14 (at least 6 years old at this point)

    RAM: DDR3 16GB Corsair (I think 2100 MHz)

Case: S340 Elite: considering keeping this, let me know what you think**

PSU: I think its 650 W, can't remember but it should be good enough to keep. It's at least 6-7 years old though

    SSD: I have 1 512GB SSD, 2 128 GB SSDS, 1 4 TB External HD - **Looking to get maybe a pcie m.2 ssd 512/1TB drive

Building a PC for friends coming from console gaming - want to offer 1080p 144hz gaming experience on a budget of $1200 including monitor and accessories. I think I've nailed it. Do you agree?

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 10:41 AM PDT

See below list - tried my best to stay at or near the $1200 mark. From my research the video card should get them close or at 144hz for most titles at medium settings.

    Let me know your thoughts!

    EDIT:

Tweaked the set up a little bit to take advantage of the savings from a smaller Power Supply and the fact that I can get a Windows 10 key on ebay which will save me money. Upgraded the CPU to a 3600x and GPU to a RTX 2060.

Trying to future proof as much as possible so shooting for around $2000 budget, but still looking to save money where I can without compromising too much and keep it simple. I've had lots of great experience with Intel CPUs and NVIDIA cards so definitely sticking with that. Does dual channel ram matter for a non gaming pc?

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 05:31 AM PDT

So i know higher frequency dual channel ram is important for gaming, but i am not sure if it makes any difference for just normal usage, my mom is going to use this pc just for browsing and watching movies, so i want to build this pc for as cheap as possible, but i would be willing to spend a bit more on ram if it would even make a difference.

Games on newly build pc laggy

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 07:09 AM PDT

Hey everyone, I finished building my pc yesterday and run into a few problems today. Specs are as follows:

    Cpu: AMD Ryzen 7 3800x

    Gpu: RTX 2070 Super

    Motheboard: ASUS Prime X570-PRO

    Ram: 2 x 16 gb Corsair 3200 MHz

Storage: 2 SSDs, 250 gb each and one HDD with 8 TB

    Power Supply: 650w

    Display: Viewsonic XG2402 (144 hz, 1920 x 1080)

The drivers are - as far as i know - all up to date. However, i tried to play some games with a few friends today and the pc couldnt handle them as in they were very laggy. I tried to change setting in both the NVIDIA Control Panel and the games themselves but couldnt solve the issue. At the same time, some games were running smoothly although i am not sure whether this was due to them generally having lower requirements. Games run as follows:

Unplayable: Monster Hunter World, Hitman 2, Remnant from the Ashes, Dark Souls 3

Okay-ish: Battlefleet Gothic Armada 2, Final Fantasy XIV

    Perfect: Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot

I've noticed that the resouce monitor is showing the GPU sometimes at 100% in the "category" 3D and am not sure whether this has something to do with the issue. Any recommendations would be great!

EDIT: Just did a UserBenchmark, Gaming is sitting at 26% while Desktop and Workstation are at 81% and 78% respectively. https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/26872665

EDIT2: Solved or at least i think so. I tried an older GPU which is working just fine, so i my assumption would be that the GPU is somehow defective or damaged in some way. I will try putting it into another system in the upcoming days and try it there.

2 GTX 1080 in SLI - if I can get used for a decent price ($400) - is it worth it?

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 12:02 PM PDT

I hear everyone saying SLI isnt supported anymore and that a 1080Ti is better for the money ... but lets say I was able to get 2 GTX 1080 in SLI for the price of one used 1080Ti,

Would it be worth going this option? (Is SLI really dead, or just expensive?)

If not, maybe I can sell one of the GTX 1080s on here for like $275 local and run with one?

    Thanks

Where did you get your desk from?

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 10:49 AM PDT

Hello all, I am in desperate need to upgrade my computer desk. The one I have had worked well for me for quite some time but it is just too small now. I am wanting something that's big enough for my 3 monitors, (19" 20" and 24") I use them all separately to multitask not as one big display, as well as some small project space for working on my raspberry pi or stuff. I was originally thinking of getting an L shaped desk but I don't think it will work well where I have my desk now. Anyways I've been looking around and was just wondering where everyone else got theirs in case im missing somewhere good. Thanks.

I’m losing my mind trying to fix my newly built pc

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 09:21 AM PDT

Hello all. I'm in need of some help. I built my pc about a month or 2 ago. I've been having some issues I've tried to troubleshoot on my own but I've hit the wall. Issue: certain games(in this example: cod modern ware fare and rainbow six siege) black screen while playing. Cod black screens at first loading screen. Siege black screens into first round. (Games that run fine at ultra (the witcher 3, rocket league, Skyrim) I've tried updated drivers. (Using DDU) Seemed to make it worse. Cod HAS worked before and has now just stopped. Other issues. After black screening. Some games will be removed. Lose save data. Or log me out of steam battle net, etc. when my pc does crash everything is still left running. Cooling fans. Ram seems to still be on. And I have this yellowish light blinking just above my ram. I'm not sure what to do to fix this and it is my first pc so I figured I'd try asking people who know a bit more than me thank you!

One thing to add. My dog pulled my pc off of my desk about 2 weeks ago. No damage seemed to be done. And it's run well up until a couple days ago. Not sure if this is part of the issue but I know it needs to be added

Components: And Ryzen 7 2700 Asus ROG Strix b450 F motherboard 16 GB g skill trident RAM DDR4 3200 Gigabyte Radeon RX 5700 XT samsung 860 evo SSD Corsair RMx 650W gold certified PSU

Need help picking new build route

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 10:11 AM PDT

    Hello,

Recently the GPU I've been using since 2015 has died (R9 280X), and I've been itching to make a new build, so now I'm toying with this idea and have been doing a bit of research.
I've gathered some options and I'd like some opinions.

For context, the main use of this build is iRacing, and some ocasionally some other games such as League of Legends, or the occasional Hitman 2 or something along those lines.
I'd like to keep this build for the next few years (this build is from 2013, with the last big upgrade being said R9 280X in 2015). I'm also currently using a 1080p 60fps monitor, but would like to upgrade next year to a 1440p high refresh rate monitor (maybe a CRG9 because of iRacing).

    1 - ITX or m/ATX?

I know part of this is personal preference, and on the surface I really like the ITX form factor, but I'm worried about thermals (obviously will depend on the components)

    2 - Intel or AMD

This is the major point I'm undecided.
I know iRacing mainly benefits from high single core performance, and i5-9600K should bring a bit more power in this regard, but I'm not really an Intel lover and would love to support AMD, and have also been considering the R5 3600, which should be more bang for buck.

    2.1 - Mid Range or High-ish Range?

Related to the point above, is the jump to the i7-9700K/R7 3700X worth it?

    3 - 2060 Super vs 2070 Super?

I'm under the impression the 2070 Super is the current mid-high range king, how much of an improvement is it over the 2060 Super or 2070?

4 - Keep my current PSU?

Been pondering about keeping my current PSU to save a few euros. I currently have a Seasonic G-650, been using it since early 2016.

Thanks in advance for any comments

    950MHz undervolt RX 570!!!

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 12:48 PM PDT

I purchased a 400W power supply for my pc and it wasn't enough. My pc was blackscreening and bluescreening and I came to the conclusion there wasn't enough power for my rx 570. I decided to undervolt it and I wanted to see the limits I could push it to. Currently I'm at 950 MHz while keeping the base clock of 1250MHz. I'm getting about 74W usage at 100% load and 60 degree Celsius. I've tested the stability using heaven benchmark and it appears to be stable.

Ryzen - suggestions before I purchase tonight?

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 12:06 PM PDT

Hi guys. I made a thread some days ago and asked for tips, and I've adjusted accordingly. I've almost pressed purchase a few times now but I really want your help to get the right build. :)

    • Ryzen 5 3600
    • MSI Tomahawk MAX (B450)
    • G.Skill RipjawsV DDR4-3600 C16
    • Kingston A2000 M.2 NVMe SSD - 1TB

I'll buy a Fractal Design Meshify C and I already have a sufficient Crucial PSU and a MSI 1060 6GB.

Does this look fine in your eyes? Thanks for your input. :)

    Ryzen 9 3900X/2080 Super Build - Been a while

    Posted: 19 Apr 2020 01:43 PM PDT

It's been a few years (2015) since I build a PC and I haven't been keeping up with the latest hardware to be honest. My PSU finally gave out this week on my current build (frankenstein i5/GTX980 I bought from a friend) so I figured it's time to upgrade. If someone in the loop could give this a quick look-over and let me know if it's solid that would be great!
