    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a GTX 1070. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case < $50

Is it even worth to buy a "Gaming Chair"?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 01:08 PM PDT

I bought a Noblechair "Epic Series" 3 years ago.
But even then i noticed how the armrests are just the worst thing ever.
For a "Premium" Chair this is really something i questioning.
Not to speak that i actually also got back pain from it.
Now i really want to buy another one and the other i give my brother, maybe he has a better use for it.
But i´m really back and forth between buying a "Gaming" Chair and a normal Office Chair which they have for example from IKEA.
I watched countless Reviews on Youtube, but i just can´t trust any of these people.
That is mostly they are satisfied with the purchase because they thrown so much money at it, or the Youtuber got paid to do a good Review. Another possibility would be that you don´t notice the inconvenience at first. Mostly you have to test it a whole week to actually know if it fits your body.
All of these Top Tier Gaming Chairs feels like a complete joke, racing colors and vinyls on the chair included.
The next problem is that every human sits different. And i mean not the position, i mean how comfortable it is for him/her to sit on the chair.
There are some great out there to be honest. I read countless good Reviews about the "Herman Miller". Based on the Reviews it must be on THE best ones out there. The price is also from another star. But i already gave my opinion about Reviews.
So at this point i´m really not sure anymore.
Anyone still has some "honest" recomendations?
    Thank you very much.

    PC Randomly Restarts....

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 11:22 AM PDT

So built a PC recently but I've noticed that the PC suddenly restarts as if someone pushed the restart button. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas?
I've looked into the Event viewer and I have a list of critical / warning / errors.

    Critical:
    Kernel-Power [Event ID: 41]

    Warning:
    e1rexpress [Event ID:27]
    ESENT [Event ID:642]
    DistributedCOM [Event ID: 10016]

    Error:
    Kernel-EventTracing [Event ID: 28]
    WHEA-Logger [Event ID: 18]

I've looked into the WHEA-Logger but nothing has helped so far (power management stuff, i.e. turning everything up from power save mode to performance for HDD / PCIE / Graphics Card)

Any Ideas or help would be much appreciated.

    Parts List:
    MOBO: Asus ROG X570-F
    CPU: Ryzen R9 3900X
Memory: Trident Z Neo 2x16GB 3600Mhz (AMD Certified)

My first build is finally finished! (Sub $1k gaming build)

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 09:13 AM PDT

This was my first time building a PC after playing on a decent (decent for 5 years ago) HP Omen laptop. I got the laptop initially for a really cheap price and desperately needed a new computer at the time, so I took what I could but as time went on it began to fail and after consulting with some friends decided it was time to take the leap and build my own computer. One of my close friends who frequents this sub way more often than I do put together my initial list of parts in a way that fit inside my budget, and with his help we narrowed down some ideas and settled on the components for my build. I opted for a black, white, and red themed build based on my favorite mech in anime. If there's anything I could do better or potential upgrades down the line (I know, I need to swap the HDD for an SSD eventually) please let me know! (Collin thanks so much for the help and support, you're the best friend a dude could have.)

$1000 Prebuild or $1000 PC build

    Posted: 15 Jun 2020 11:45 PM PDT

I wanted to build my own PC but my dad insisted me to buy a prebuilt which is the ROG Strix GL10DH Gaming Desktop PC, AMD Ryzen 5 3400G, GeForce GTX 1650, 8 GB DDR4 RAM, 512 GB PCIe SSD, Wi-Fi 5, Windows 10 Home, GL10DH-PH552. I know that prebuilts usually sucks so i just need ur opinion on this

This is the Build that i wanted to do. MY budget is $1000 or below(not including peripherals). Feel free to fix my build and add stuff or peripherals https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mkLCQq

Update: since im only will be using the pc for some games (valorant, warzone, etc) but mainly game dev im decreasing my budget and came up with this. Will probably upgrade in the holiday seasons where parts are cheaper. Any thoughts? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/VbsYGc

    Are Fans All The Same?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 04:37 AM PDT

So I've recently just built a new rig, I'll put the specs at the bottom if anyone's interested, and on this rig I've gone for an AIO water cooler for the CPU (I'm aware they offer no real benefit to air but it was the cheaper but still quality choice at the time). I'd like to replace the rad fan with something a little more fancy so it matches the theme I'm going for.

My question is can I buy any old 120mm fan that is the colours/lights I'm looking for? or are there fans specifically for providing airflow through a case (i.e. low pressure) where as the radiator fans need to deal with more pressure as they're pushing air through a restriction?

    Thanks!

Specs for anyone who cares: Case: Corsair 220T white Mobo: Asus Prime B450m-k CPU: Ryzen 5 3600x CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster MasterLiquid Lite 120 RAM: 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance 3200Mhz GPU: AMD RX5700XT Anniversary PSU: Corsair RM750X Storage: 240Gb Sata SSD + 2TB HDD

Any recommended GPU for a ~$400 GPU x CPU combo?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 10:41 AM PDT

Hi guys, newbie here. I am planning to build a pc on the $~750 budget. What's the best budget (CPU and GPU amount combined) components for ~$450? I'm a newbie btw. I will mainly use it for work and just some games on the side. I just don't want spending too much on the components and not getting the most out of it, also not getting bottleneck. Help a newbie out!

    I have a 75hz 5ms monitor if that helps

    Trouble finding a good mobo for 700$ build(Ryzen 5 3600)

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 12:49 PM PDT

I can't find a motherboard that is compatible with the Ryzen 5 3600. I need some help finding a good quality and reliable motherboard for my budget build of $700. Is the Ryzen 5 3600 still a good CPU to use for my budget build. I keep getting compatibility errors on pcpartpicker when I use any motherboard.

    Will this motherboard work well?

Worth to upgrade while we wait?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 02:20 PM PDT

    Hey Fellas,

Been rocking a Gtx 770 with an I7 4770k For about 6-7 years now and in desperate need of an upgrade for gaming. I am certainly planning to build a new rig soon but I think I should hold off and wait for the new 3000 series Nvidia cards. Along with the price inflation from COVID, I don't think it's worth building a rig at this time. In the meantime, do you guys think it's worth it to do a cheap graphics card upgrade for the time being? I was looking at used cards under ~ $200 CAD in my area and can find 970s and 1060s. Do you think its worth to grab something like that in the meantime?

    16gb with 3 sticks vs 12gb with 2 sticks

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 02:16 PM PDT

So I currently have 2 sticks of 4gb of ram in my computer. I'm going to buy a single stick of 8gb of ram but then I'm not sure if I should replace the 8gb with one of the 4 sticks to get 12 gb of ram with 2 sticks or if I should just add on the 8gb stick so that I have 16gb of ram but 3 sticks.

    New to Pc Building

Looking to upgrade to one of the new B550 boards, and pick up a Ryzen 7 3800x. Should I upgrade now, or wait for AMD to release their new CPU lineup this fall?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 09:27 AM PDT

Basically the title - would it be wise to wait and see if there are any significant drops in price, or should I just bite the bullet now? I'm currently on a X370 board with a Ryzen 7 1700x, so definitely due for an upgrade.

    Thanks!

    B550 Taichi/ROG Strix-E or Equivalent price X570?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 10:42 AM PDT

I want to get the B550 Taichi a day or two after it releases this friday, but is it a better option to get over an equivalent priced (~$300) X570 board? If so, then what X570 boards would be the best buy for best performance around that price? If not, then is the Taichi board overall better than the ROG Strix-E?

Can't get my new built PC to boot

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 01:28 PM PDT

So I just finished building my new PC today with the following parts:
    CPU: Ryzen 5 1600
    MB: ASUS prime B350M-K
    GPU: Gigabyte gtx 1060 3gb g1 gaming
    RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200 Mhz CL16 (2x8gb)
    PSU: EVGA B3 550w
    Storage: Corsair Force Mp510 480gb

When I first booted the pc it started into bios as it should. The only thing I did was to enable D.C.O.P (Maybe I'm just stupid to do this without installing windows first and caused a problem?), then the computer restarted and gave me a message that said it couldn't overclock the memory so I got into bios again and set it to default settings. Now when the PC restarted again the fans starts spinning and leds are lighting up as usual but it just gives me a black screen, and I already tried clearing cmos, remove gpu, remove RAM, start with only 1 RAM stick. Anyone who knows how I could fix this?

I so far have received the B450, case, keyboard and hard drive. This will be my first complete build! Help on a monitor!

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 01:22 PM PDT

    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rZYyNq

So I will be ordering next the graphics card, power supply, ssd, and a desk for my room. I'm wondering what screen would be best for this setup. I'm not really sure what I'll be doing on the computer yet but I know for sure I'll be playing games and doing work on it. I want a screen that works well with my setup and is also suitable for future upgrades on the pc. My budget for the whole pc together is really indistinguishable because I'm just getting what I need/want and am budgeting along the way. I'm just not trying to spend $500 on one part. So maybe I'd say my budget for a monitor is around $200 USD.

The Temptations of a Repurposed Dell Desktop

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 12:29 PM PDT

I have seen many posts and comments on this sub that fall around the subject of taking an old Dell PC and repurposing/retrofitting it with new components. I am not here to dissuade anyone, I am not here to knock against Dell, I am just here to help inform.

A few years back I was in the market to get a new PC for gaming, but was considering ways to save money. Previous to these days I had zero experience building my own PC, but had done some component swapping, so I felt comfortable with some outside the box ideas involving used PCs. I had researched and found myself in a position to obtain a Dell OptiPlex9020 Mini Tower through the company I work for. They were offering a buyback on the PC for $150, and I knew who had used the computer for the previous 5 years. The highlight of the specs were:

    • i7 4790 w/ HD Graphics 4600
    • 32GB of DDR3-1600 RAM
    • 500GB SSD
    • 290W 80+ Gold PSU

Knowing what was inside and the light use it had before, $150 seemed like a great deal so I purchased it without second thought. The plan was that I could reuse all of the components, and just add a GPU and HDD, and if really needed maybe a new PSU. I went online bought a GTX 1060 and 2TB HDD, and realized when they had arrived that something was not right.

The PSU was from a Chinese company who built these units specifically for Dell. The connectors from the PSU to the MOBO and CPU were proprietary connectors, but I didn't catch it because they look normal at first glance. The connectors are your normal pin and sleeve connectors but for the MOBO, rather than a 20+4 pin connector it was a 22 pin connector, and the CPU rather than being a 4+4 pin connector was a 6 pin connector.

Ok, so maybe not a big deal, I could still attach the GPU, right? Wrong, I was planning on using the 6 pin connector for the 1060, and there was only a spare 4 pin connector. I tried to mess around with it for a few more days to make it work (and recover my pride).

No matter how I went through it the short of it was I needed a new PSU with the right connectors, which meant a new MOBO with a 20 or 24 pin sleeve, and that meant all of the other components were no longer feasible and had to be upgraded as well.

In the end I built a new PC from scratch and donated the Optiplex. Today I am extremely happy with my build, but when I started I did not expect to spend $800, just $430 [the $150 (Optiplex) + $230 (1060) + $50 (HDD)]. I don't believe I could have saved myself the frustration of it not working like I thought it would, there was no info on the different pin configurations when I did the research so I assumed it would be like every other PC.

My advice to anyone looking to retrofit a PC is to get inside the guts first and look around, note any oddities, and then make decisions based on your findings. There is nothing wrong with retrofitting, it just requires a little more homework.
