Posted: 09 Apr 2020 07:17 AM PDT Hello folks, I have a doubt, I was in the process of building a PC but for the CPU I have some doubts. Right now I got a i5-9400F and a Z390 A-Pro, and tomorrow the case will arrive from Amazon, so I will build everything. After a lot of research, expecially here, I got a doubt about the CPU, and my choice obviously went on 3600 - but on Amazon I can find 2700x (so way better) to lower price than 3600; the comparing page is here. My question is, it's worth to make a refund and wait to get an AMD cpu? If yes, which one? [link] [comments]
[Build Help] I switched to PC and now my friend is sad. Posted: 09 Apr 2020 10:43 AM PDT I recently switched over to PC gaming because I am noticing my 5-year-old Xbox is noticeably slow. The fans are on constant full blast now. An effect of this was that my good friend still plays on console and he is upset that I wont be able to play with him anymore. He doesnt have the money to pay for a decent gaming PC, so here I am to get him one. I have the parts list compiled, and i was just wanting to know if there is anything that can be changed in order to get him the most "bang for the buck" experience. My budget is around $800. He already has a keyboard and mouse, so that is why those are not in the list.

Would this build last me 8 years + ? Posted: 09 Apr 2020 08:26 AM PDT Plan on using for gaming, engineering with computation work, and dual monitors.
Edit: I changed out a few parts based on y'alls responses. What do y'all think?

First time upgrading parts. What should I know when going from a slow HDD to new SSD? Posted: 09 Apr 2020 09:39 AM PDT I've upgraded my CPU and GPU with ease but I know upgrading from HDD to SSD will be much more difficult. Can I keep both? If I do what should I use each for? Posted: 09 Apr 2020 08:38 AM PDT So I'm looking into switching from console to PC gaming, and was wondering if you guys could help me out. I have a budget of around $1,500. If there's anything I could spend less on to get more from another part I'm all for it. I'd like to be able to game in 1440p but I wouldn't be opposed to 1080p. I play the more basic games like COD and for tire, but I also like to play RPGs as well. Also, I'd want to use the computer to do very light photo editing, and possibly video editing. Thank you in advance and I appreciate all the help. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FHm3jp Edit: switched a few things from recommendations https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Gy4B7T Edit: a few more things switched, a bigger SSD and no HD. I would stick to this till I needed more storage and then buy another SSD when that time comes. As u/lookatmelucid mentioned, the newer cards are coming out so I'm thinking I may get a cheaper GPU and beef up the CPU, and then when the new GPUs come out I could upgrade. Posted: 09 Apr 2020 08:55 AM PDT Bidirectional boxes exist to quickly switch between two usb, utp, or audio cable. Just wanted to share this to give ideas for home rigs. Seeking to build a computer for the first time, need halp! Posted: 09 Apr 2020 02:43 PM PDT Hello everyone. Several years ago I bought a prebuilt gaming pc from Amazon and now thinking it's time that I dive into building one for myself although I've never attempted to do anything like this so hoping I don't damage any expensive parts in the process. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jJJgK4 Was planning on using the same monitors and other stuff that I currently have already. I mainly want this pc to be my everything pc from watching streams and playing games like hearthstone and some mmo's to having one of the outputs go to my t.v. to play my triple A games on and have them be beautiful and lag free. Thanks in advance for any advice. [link] [comments]
Need your opinions/suggestions on this build please Posted: 09 Apr 2020 08:44 AM PDT I'm finally getting my first pc and just wondering if this would be perfect for strictly gaming for the price? Could go a little bit more in price if it's worth it. [link] [comments]
Building a PC for the first time with my brother. Posted: 09 Apr 2020 02:37 PM PDT First time builder here looking for some guidance/recommendations for parts. Have done a decent amount of research and this is what I have landed on, but any help or insight would be appreciated! Looking for 1440p gaming at 144hz, will be playing a mix of heavy single player games as well as competitive titles such as Overwatch, RocketLeague, CS. Also is there any little things I have to buy separately in order to completely build this pc once the parts come in? Any extra cables or components? Any help would be appreciated and sorry for the noob questions! Posted: 09 Apr 2020 02:31 PM PDT I just finished building my computer with a 3700x, msi b450 tomahawk max, 2070 super, and g. skill (2x8). I went to boot it and nothing, not even the fans started spinning. I double checked everything. Re seated the ram in different places (made sure it was in the correct spots), double checked my cpu, made sure everything was plugged into my psu and on my motherboard, but still nothing. However, when I held my flash bios button for 10 seconds, a red light beeped on my motherboard, so I know power is getting to my motherboard. I read online that you have to flash you bios via thumb drive for the motherboard being able to properly use 3rd gen ryzens. I was wondering is it just inserting the thumb drive into a usb and then holding the flash bios button since I can't even access the bios.? I greatly appreciate the advice! 1440p capable machine for $800? Posted: 09 Apr 2020 12:45 PM PDT Hey all, I should be getting the components for my first build shortly. My goal for the build was just to have something I could game with at 1440p at decent settings. The parts I ordered consist of: Ryzen 5 1600AF RTX 2060 KO B450 MB 1tb NVME SSD 16Gb DDR4 3200 RAM I want to be able to play games like cs, overwatch, rocket league, and other easy to run games @ 144fps 1440p. I also want to run harder games like COD MW, Sekiro, GTA V, etc. at 1440p, and I'll probably be aiming for above 60/70fps in those harder titles. With this hardware, am I capable to running these sorts of frame rates, or should I taper my expectations? Again, this is my first build, so any advice is appreciated as well! Thanks! Posted: 09 Apr 2020 12:32 PM PDT So I'm thinking about ordering the 5700 XT Nitro+ or the MSI gaming x from Newegg I could get one of them for 60$ less than the Strix 2060 Super. I never had a amd card and heard a pretty bad things about the drivers. Still worth getting? I'm not sure if the recent update have helped the black screen and crashes. TL;DR: is the recent AMD drivers for the 5700XT fixed the crashes and black screens? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 09 Apr 2020 10:10 AM PDT I've been recruited to build a full system (tower, OS, keyboard, mouse, monitor) for a friend who wants join the PCMR. He'll be using it to get into PC gaming with the possibility of streaming. I was aiming for at least a 1080p system for now, but I'd like to have a good baseline incase he wants to upgrade to 1440p/144Hz one day. Other than gaming, he'll be using it for making music, photo editing, and some light CAD. He already has the music/photo peripherals, as he's upgrading from a laptop, but needs everything else. I'm trying to stay under $1500 for the package, but could stretch a bit for a noticeable performance increase. I'm a bit rusty as far as what's good or overpriced or whatever at the moment, but here's what I've come up so far. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/pLwkRk [link] [comments]
Sold my MSI Gaming X GTX 1080 Online - Buyer claims the card to be defective - Thoughts? Posted: 09 Apr 2020 04:04 PM PDT I sold my MSI Gaming X GTX 1080 online, the buyer received it today and claims the card to be defective, it seems its displaying weird artifacts on the screen. I used this card for like an year of regular usage & gaming and never experienced something like this, the card worked flawless for me. He sent me 2 videos of the card apparently failing: Me running FurMark with no issues like a month prior to selling it: Im not questioning the buyer, he seems like a cool dude overall and apparently the issue is legit, I just want to troubleshoot with him to check wether this might be something related to software and easily fixable or I have no other choice but to refund him, which would suck honestly. I told him to clean uninstall drivers with DDU as well as change the GPU to another PCI slot and see if any of that helps. What else can I tell him to do in order to check wether this is a hardware or software fault? Maybe this happened during shipping? Thanks! How does HDD and SSD together work? Posted: 09 Apr 2020 04:02 PM PDT I understand almost everyone has both in their builds, but why? Are they connected or something? Posted: 09 Apr 2020 01:48 PM PDT This build is based on a pre-built pc i found, however with an AMD CPU (and fitting motherboard) instead to save costs. I still have a HDD and i'll go cheap (secondhand maybe) on a new case and monitor (both are old and used up). In total i think it will cost around €1500. Thoughts and recommendations would be much appreciated! Would I be able to use my parts still if I get an ATX motherboard to replace my ITX? Posted: 09 Apr 2020 03:57 PM PDT I wanted to upgrade my motherboard to an ATX just because it needs the upgrade. Mouse Purchase Advice (my old Rival 310 died) Posted: 09 Apr 2020 01:42 PM PDT Hello guys, I would really appreciate it if you could recommend me a mouse which fits my criteria. My Rival 310 got the double click issue on both mouse buttons unfortunately. The issue got worse and my right mouse button does not react on some clicks. Sadly I did not expect this from a SteelSeries product, especially it happening 1 year after the purchase. Games: Every genre Hand preference: Right Budget: ~50€ Hand Size: Small (length: 17cm width: 9,5cm) Grip: Claw Weight: Not heavy probably similiar to rival 310 weight 88,3 gramm Sensitivity: A mouse with multiple options would be great but not neccessary Connectivity: Wired (light cable would be preferred, because heavy cables are really noticable) I am already in contact with their support and we are in the warranty process. Unfortunately their support system is stressed out at the time so it takes a longer time to respond. Also somethings seems wrong because all my tickets are marked as "closed/solved" even though no one from support answered me/looked at it. As I said my old Rival 310 was flawed with the double click issue which indicates bad switches. Are Steel Series products known to fail in that departement or was my mouse an exception? People in this post seem to agree that steel series mouses do have their problems and need to be exchanged eventually. How to reduce the cost of PC with following specification. Posted: 09 Apr 2020 03:39 AM PDT
These are the required specs for the build and are fixed. Kindly suggest the other components that are not too costly for the PC build. Mother Boards that can support multiple monitor screens, a simple case. Do not require any fancy RGB and stuff. What areas should I focus on in a cheap build to maximise upgrade potential in the future? Posted: 09 Apr 2020 03:51 PM PDT Hi! Sorry, if this is a vague question, I'm not not looking for SPECIFIC part suggestions but rather recommended areas of focus. I'm looking to build a PC, unfortunately due to the 'rona and due to being in Australia, buying parts for a decent mid to high range PC at the moment is insane (for example, a Ryzen 5 3600 is about AUD$391 (USD$247)) to be honest, it doesn't look like prices will be getting better any time soon. However, I am impatient and don't want to save for three years to buy a PC (using a 7 year old MacBook at the moment, haha) So what I'm looking for is suggestions on where I should focus my money in terms of upgradability. I can probably build a cheap pc fairly soon, but my plan is to slowly save money and upgrade parts one at a time over the next year or two. I'm very much an amateur, this will be my first ever build. I want it to EVENTUALLY be a really good gaming pc, I do play a lot of games on console but want to make the switch. I also do a lot of graphic design (photoshop, dozens of layers, etc) and some amateur music production, recording, etc. So while I guess the main focus will be gaming, therefore the GPU I think I will also need the flexibility of a decent CPU/RAM setup so I can use it as a home workstation as well. (Sorry if my lack of accurate terminology or understanding is painful, haha I'm still learning.) So I guess based on my limited understanding it might be best if I focus my funds on getting a really good motherboard and an 'okay' GPU at the moment and upgrade everything else as time goes on? Would that be a reasonable course of action? Or is it perhaps better if I put my funds into a good processor to start so I'll get a bit more flexibility? I'm aware that there are apparently supposed to be some major releases this year so I can take that into account as well (I think Nvidia has a new GPU range coming or something?) Also to give a price range just to get a bearing on my intentions, I'll probably start with a AUD$1000 (USD$633) or less build (with a focus on gaming) and then eventually, through gradual upgrades, turn it into a AUD$3000 ($1900) gaming/workstation. My price ranges are fairly flexible as I am still in the planning/budgeting stage. Any suggestions or advice would be so, so amazing. Even if it's not specifically for the questions I asked. As I said, I am an amateur and couldn't really find this specific info anywhere. Also it is just so much more productive to interact with a community where I can go back and forth in comments to refine/clear up stuff. Thankyou all in advance! Posted: 09 Apr 2020 03:41 PM PDT I have most of this build in-hand and going to start putting it together soon. The only thing I need assistance with at this point is the PSU. I have a CX 430 I got for free from a friend that is about 3 years old, green/white label. I also have a brand new CX 450 on hand that I got for about 60 bucks. However, the CX450 is under return policy still so I can send it back and get my 60$ back. As you can see this is a budget build, for an older family member who will mainly be web browsing and ms office stuff. From a power consumption perspective I know the CX430 is more than enough given the CPU/APU setup. But what about longevity? This family member won't be able to fix things if the PSU goes out in a year, etc. Given the low power needs of this build, would the CX430 last, say, another 5 years? Or should I play it safe and bite the 60$ with the new one? Thanks! PCPartPicker Part List
