• Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
• I'm thinking of getting a GTX 1070. Which one should I get?
• I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case < $50

3. PC #1 is included in the prize pool initially, with PCs #2, #3 and #4 being added to the prize pool for every $1000 the GoFundMe raises. #2 will be added at $1000, #3 will be added at $2000, and #4 will be added at $3000.

4. Done and done. Wait for us to announce the winners!

Take some time to visit our sponsor's subreddit, Facebook or Twitter while you're anxiously waiting for the contest to run down. This is not required for you to participate or win, but we really appreciate the contributions of ZOTAC and their partners towards this giveaway and we think they deserve the plug here.

Cpu usage still high even after changing cpu

Posted: 26 Feb 2020 03:36 AM PST

My old cpu(i7 6700k)recently started rising to 100% usage while streaming and playing games and even sometimes while playing games especially in modern warfare and even games like fortnite. So i decided to finally upgrade to a 9700k but I'm still getting the same problem even with a completely fresh install of windows and a new motherboard but now I just get more FPS. My voltage and temps seem fine for everything I can post logs if that helps. I have a new power supply coming in with 2x16gb 3200 lpx ram today I just want to make sure this problem doesn't stay with even more parts and I'd like to use the old ones for a streaming pc so fixing them would be great.

Is an upgrade from an i7 7700 to a Ryzen 5 3600x a good decision?

Posted: 26 Feb 2020 08:02 AM PST

So I've had this build for a little over 3 years now I think. My main use is for gaming, coding and (mostly) VR and it has been working great for the most part.

However, I'm starting to notice that my CPU is a bottleneck in some VR games which causes heavy slowdowns. Ex. Some sections in Boneworks run at 40fps.

Checking the graphs inside SteamVR I can see my CPU is just not cutting it somehow. I need to upgrade ASAP because this is giving me some serious motion sickness in VR.

Is the Ryzen 5 3600x a good upgrade for my current i7 7700?

3970x build with very specific usecase. 10k budget

Posted: 26 Feb 2020 05:47 AM PST

Hey guys,

I am working with a software called PioSolver. It is a poker software which needs a shit tone of CPU. Therefore I want to get as much Power for my money as I can possible get!

The Server will run 24/7 and I want to overclock it.

I have 2 GPUs left (660ti) which should be more than enough. (I essentially only need it to start the pc and than only CPU will be used anyway)

PioSolver can only handle 64 threads (therefore 3990x probably is not that good even tho I could disable hyperthreading and only loose about 10-15% of speed according to them)

Budget: around 10000 Euro.

Requirements: 64gb ram. Overclockable so good cooler I guess. Best CPU for money avaible. GPU does not matter.

I have a friend with more knowledge than me which suggested the following: (I would be buying 3 of each)

CPU: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970x - Is there anything esle with better price / power ratio? I was thinking about the Ryzen 3950x and buy more pcs than :D But I still thing with everything else needed its probably cheaper to stick to the ryzen 3970x.

Cooler: Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML360R RGB AIO CPU-Kühler - what AIO cooler can you recommand? Is there a better one that this one?

Ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3000MHz - is there better ram? should I go with 3200 MHz? Is it worth additional 30 Euro per 32 GB? (6 in total so 64gb for each pc)

Powersuply: be quiet! 500w with CM. - I am not sure if 500w is enough tbh. I have heared the 3970x can consume like 450 itself when OC. So maybe go with 600 or 700w?

Case: Thermaltake Level 20 MT ARGB Mid Tower/Tempered Glass/Mini ITX/Micro ATX/ATX - Idc about the case tbh. It should be big enough, cheap and have a nice air flow. Do you have anything better than that one?

Mainboard: ASUS Prime TRX40-Pro Gaming Mainboard Sockel AMD sTRX4 (ATX, DDR4-Speicher, PCIe 4.0, M.2, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Typ-C, Aura Sync) - TBH I have no clue about mainboards. That is just what I got recommand by him. Is it ok? Should I get something else? From my research it looks like a lowbudget one but formyself I neverunderstood why spend more than whats minimum on mainboards ;D

GPU: I only need 1 because I have 2 left. Which one can you recommand? As I said it should bassicly just as cheap as possible so I can get the pc started. I was thinking about maybe buying one used to save money...

I am very thankfull for any advice!

I am looking now already for a few days and since it is such a large sum I just want to make sure everything is right! :D

Best regards,

loliufg

Edit: Ok I will not take an AIO cooler.

What do you guys think about the older version of the 2990wx? It is a lot cheaper and also has 32 cores. https://gadgetversus.com/processor/amd-ryzen-threadripper-3970x-vs-amd-ryzen-threadripper-2990wx/

On this site the difference in performance varies hughly tho betweend benchmarks.

Which one do you think is accurate? Is the olderone better price / value?

What do you do while you wait for your parts?

So I just this morning bought all my components from amazon/newegg, and everything should be here by Friday for my first build in 10 years. Can you even sleep? How do you pass the time waiting for your components to get here? Pray to the computer gods that all your stuff arrives on time and working order?

GTX 1660ti with Ryzen 7 3700x

Posted: 26 Feb 2020 12:19 PM PST

Hello all,

I recently upgraded my processor, motherboard, and RAM.

I currently have a GTX 1660ti and the processor is now a Ryzen 7 3700x.

I've been told by a few of my friends that I'm going to experience a bottleneck since the graphics card would not be as powerful as the CPU.

Well turns out I have no idea if that is the case. They wouldn't let me in on the secret of how to discover this on my own. So I'm looking to you guys for help.

Will my 1660ti bottleneck my Ryzen 7 3700x?

(My ram is Corsair Vengeance 2x8 3200)

Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive.

There are a lot of small, weird problems that are adding up. The biggest issue is that my 1080 Ti will only run at PCIe x8 3.0 max. I am using a SATA M.2, but as far as I can tell from the mobo's documentation, populating the M.2 shouldn't bump down the x16 slot to an x8, so I'm not sure what's going on there.

This started because I was noticing some weird behavior with the graphics card. The first time I put any graphical load on the system during a given session, the monitor goes black for a few seconds. This seems to be related to when the system bumps up the PCIe from x8 1.1 to x8 3.0.

The other thing I noticed was that I can't see the mobo logo or BIOS when I'm running through DisplayPort. I can only see them when I swap it for an HDMI. And yes, I'm always plugging into the card, not the motherboard. My monitor is 1440p 144hz.

List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem.

I've tweaked some settings in the BIOS - stuff like forcing UEFI and disabling a few legacy support options. Other than that, I really don't have any idea what my next steps should be.

Provide any additional details you wish below.

Can someone recommend me some cases under $115 that have good/okay air flow

Posted: 26 Feb 2020 11:50 AM PST

I'm trying to find a case that comes with 3 pre-installed rgb fans and has an alright airflow. The current case I'm looking at is the Phantelks 400a. I heard this case has pretty okay airflow but I didn't really like the looks of the front cover where the fans are (the really tiny whole thingys). I was thinking about the Coolmaster Matrexx 70 with the 3 rgb fans since I like the looks of it but I heard it had pretty bad airflow.

How do I really properly fully shut down my PC & Windows 10 help?

Posted: 26 Feb 2020 06:47 AM PST

I have Windows 10.

I noticed when I shut down my PC then on again or even restart, windows remembers my desktop and re-opens windows/folders/browser tabs like it was before i press the restart/shutdown button.

This suggests that my PC is not really shutting down when i click on shut down!

This also suggests that windows is somehow is storing the desktop remembrance to my RAM or to my SSD in some kind of Hibernation or whatever that I dont want.

Is hibernation enabled by default in Win 10 after a fresh build/install?

I understand Windows 10 native supports SSD's however does it support NVME SSD's and what settings can I change in Win 10 to optimise my NVME SSD if default Win 10 settings are causing problems like im experiencing above.

Lastly any settings in BIOS/UEFI relating to this?

Is there any other known annoying quirks that I need to be aware of with Windows 10 after using Windows 7 problem free for 10 years!

Is the I7 2600 still a decent option?

Posted: 26 Feb 2020 11:43 AM PST

Im looking to upgrade my I3 3220 and the I7 2600 seems like a great option for cca $50. Does it still hold its own in recent games? How does it compare to modern mid-range CPUs?

The other option is the I5 3470 for cca $30.Is it atleast as good for gaming?

Im looking to use my current PC(with the upgraded CPU) for the next 3-4 years and Im mostly gaming,so which one is the better choice?

HDD/SSD... OS or storage?

Posted: 26 Feb 2020 11:36 AM PST

Hi everyone - hopefully a simple question someone can fire an answer at!

I'm looking at buying an SSD to improve performance on my PC. I've read that moving the entire OS and reconfiguring storage to make the SSD the boot drive massively helps, but I feel like I may be better off leaving the HDD as the boot drive/OS and using an SSD as storage for games etc (such as that 170GB Modern Warfare...)

So my question is, would installing an SSD and only using it for storage increase performance of the software saved to the SSD, or would I only notice an increase in performace by changing the SSD to the boot drive?

Hope that makes sense, trying to get my head around it all. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi - as the title states I am looking for an entry level gaming (Some of the older Halos/MW2/Assassins Creed) and personal media (Video,Music & Photo storage plus Final Cut level editing) build for around $1000 USD ($1300 CDN - will be purchasing the parts in Canada).

I have compiled a list that sits at the top end of my budget through my research and hope to get recommendations/feedback to fine-tune performance while reducing/holding the price point. Additional component recommendations would be appreciated too (i.e do i need a video card?).

EDIT: Forgot to remove the Corsair ram sticks - I plan on going with only the G.Skill Ripjaws. I have updated the list to reflect.

Anyone in the San Diego area want to help me build my first PC? Obviously I’ll pay.

Posted: 26 Feb 2020 01:03 PM PST

Looking at building my first PC and I have no idea what I'm doing nor do I trust myself to do it correctly. I was wondering if someone in the San Diego area would be interested in helping me build it. Obviously I'll pay and we can meet at a coffee shop or something so you can see that I'm not a crazy lol. I don't want to just drop it off I want to help so I can learn how to do it if that's ok. A little bit about myself, I was in the military for 7 years and just got out. I always had a gaming laptop cause I needed to be mobile but finally I can get a PC cause I'm staying here in SD. Thanks for your time!

Attempting to build a PC

Posted: 26 Feb 2020 01:03 PM PST

So I had the day off today and ended up buying Final Fantasy XIV membership. The game is definitely taking a beating on my current family PC so I wanted to build one of my own. I also play some other games like LoL and some other AAA titles on steam. I know the game(s) may not be super requirement heavy but I still wanted a computer that would run extremely well and would last me a while before I had to swap out any parts.

So I did a little bit of research and this is what I came up with. As for the storage I'm a bit lost there when it comes to SSD and HDD. It's not a perfect list, but I tried to stay within my $2000 limit so I would really appreciate any and all feedback. A bit above the limit is fine as well. I just want to start buying the parts as soon as I can.

Any keyboard recommendations for: mechanical + full size + wireless + AA or AAA battery powered?

Posted: 26 Feb 2020 12:21 PM PST

I can't seem to find one that fits all 4 criteria. The main problem is finding something that isn't rechargable. The only ones that are powered by regular batteries are the basic office keyboards.

Building a very high budget PC for a high quality VR driving simulation station, please help!

Posted: 26 Feb 2020 12:21 PM PST

Build Help:

The PC will be used for a VR driving simulator using the latest PiMax VR headset. Good for at least a couple of years without having to change parts.

Having the option to switch to an ultrawide 4K screen would be great too, but I presume it would be less demanding than VR.

The headset used will be the Pimax 8K X

Some of the games played would be Project Cars 2 and Asseto Corsa, + whatever comes out over the years.

Budget: 5000 $CAD

Purchasing the parts in Canada

Here's a draft I started with, looking for advice on what can be improved, not necessarily to make it cheaper, as this is a company computer and we were given 5000 for it, use it or lose it.

PS: The Power Supply does seem like overkill, but that's because we already have one sitting here.

New CPU or mobo?

Posted: 26 Feb 2020 01:32 PM PST

So I'm looking for a new CPU (had my eye on the Ryzen 5 3600) however should I upgrade my mobo first? It's a B350 one and since it's limited in many ways like just one m.2 SSD slot etc I was wondering if I shoukd upgrade my mobo first. If I upgrade my mobo first, what are things I need to know before I do that? Like making a backup, having to buy a new Windows key etc.

Is a gaming desk worth it?

Posted: 26 Feb 2020 01:28 PM PST

I'm planning on moving soon and selling my old desk to upgrade that I was gaming on. Is buying a gaming desk worth it or is it no different then going to buy a regular computer desk? If anyone has recommendations I would greatly appreciate it!
