How do I know which monitor is better? They are both 1440p at 144hz but two are IPS which I heard is good other than that I’m not sure which one to pick. Please help I don’t understand monitors why can’t there be a monitor benchmark.

    Posted: 27 Jan 2020 02:51 AM PST

Can someone please explain to me which monitor is better, this, this or this?

It's primarily for gaming but I wouldn't mind some good looking graphics for watching tv too. My GPU is an RTX 2070 super

Edit 1: A lot of people have been telling me to compare on "rtings.com" however none of the three monitors are listed on there.

Edit 2: It's awesome that everyone is being so willing to help :)

Recommending a 5600XT right now is irresponsible

    Posted: 27 Jan 2020 04:53 AM PST

Stop the fan boi recommendations! The 5600XT might be a great card some day but right now unless you are buying the exact Sapphire model that reviewers were given, are comfortable doing a BIOS flash and know how to troubleshoot driver issues, its completely irresponsible to recommend one, especially not to a new builder.

1 - Not every card will be capable of taking the new vBIOS. Watch this MSI live stream about the issues. MSI has already said that some of their cards will not get the new vBIOS because they were never intended to run at the higher clocks and wont pass validation. If you dont have two hours, watch the Gamers Nexus rollup that puts it all in very explicit terms. LOTS of cards will not be able to take the new vBIOS. Som for power, some for cooling and some for memory. This is not a simple problem.

2 - Flashing BIOS is not for the beginner. Even an experienced users only recommend it if you have a dual BIOS card (like the Sapphire). Even then, the recommended way is to do it on a computer attached to a UPS to ensure that you dont have an outage mid flash. Unless you know someone has the skill and setup to safely flash a BIOS, recommending a card based on price/performance that REQUIRES that BIOS is irresponsible.

3 - Because of these issues, the price/performance of a 5600XT is completely unknown. This isnt like buying a card with overclocking headroom. AMD is advertising a boosted performance for a card that may or may not be able to deal with that. $280 sounds great but it isnt great when you have no idea if you got the $240 card, the $280 card or the $320 card. Because thats where its at. Some cards will be equivlant to a 1660super. Some will be a 1660ti. Some will be a 2060. But you wont know when you buy it.

EDIT: As /u/Slyons89 correctly pointed out, we know the base level of price performance and we know that one Sapphire card can do so we do have some known price/performance metrics. What we dont know is where other cards will shake out.

4 - New builders are unlikely to have spare video cards laying around to trouble shoot with. If they get a "bad" 5600 and lose the silicone lottery, they might be stuck with no computer for an extended time period as they RMA a card. Or they might not be able to figure out what went wrong and give up in frustration. If you are an experienced builder with lots of spares laying around, good on you, grap a 5600 and report back to the community. But telling a new builder to wander out inot flashing BIOS and unstable driver land is how people get frustrated and quit.

This is not an anti AMD rant. I have both AMD and Nvidia cards in my machines. Both my daily driver (RX580) and gaming (RX570) are AMD. Nvidia has had card issues before and it would have been just as irresponsible to recommend one of their unstable products. But right now, today, its an AMD problem.

1660 Super vs 1660 ti vs 5600xt vs other models

    Posted: 27 Jan 2020 02:45 AM PST

Hi, Please excuse my non-fluent english: I'm planning on building a PC for the first time and my budget is about €750 (preferably less). I'm trying to eliminate the need for any necessary upgrades in the near future and would like to be able to last multiple years with this build.

This is the plan so far: AMD R5 2600 ASUS B450 Corsair Vengeance 16GB 3200MHz Samsung NVMe 256G Seagate Barracuda 1TB Corsair 550W

    I still haven't settled on the GPU and have about €300 to spend. I can't decide between a 1660ti, 1660 super, 5600xt, 5500xt or other comparable GPU'S.

    Thanks in advance.

I literally cannot find a way to fix this problem.

    Posted: 27 Jan 2020 12:19 PM PST

I guarantee I've tried every fix. I cannot for the life of me fix this annoying hiccup. I updated literally every driver I have, I have did a clean install on a SSD. I even replaced my RAM and GPU (same GPU but different apparently QVL ram). Did malware scans, did all the commands to fix windows on CMD. I underclocked my RAM. I calculated timings for RAM. I ran memtests. Disk checks. I just keep getting occasional freezes, they're very brief, like half a second, it tears the screen, distorts the audio, and all returns to normal right after.

    Specs:

RTX 2070 Super (Upgraded from GTX 1050)

    Ryzen 5 3600 (Upgraded from FX 4300)

Seasonic S12II 620 Watts (Hasnt been upgraded)

Msi Tomahawk Max B450 (Upgraded from a Asus Crosshair V)

    G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB (2x8) 3600MHz C18 (Upgraded from 8GB (2x4) Crucial 1333MHz DDR3)

It makes literally no sense to me, I have no clue. Im starting to really give up on PCs man.

Im having a dilemma wether to get a pc now with the existing rtx cards or wait for the 3000 series to come out, because they are going to have improved performance over the 2000 series. What are your opinions on this guys, any of you waiting for the new rtx cards?

NVIDIA RTX 2060 Founders Edition Idle Noise

    Posted: 27 Jan 2020 01:53 PM PST

    Troubleshooting Help:

VIDEO (turn up your volume): https://streamable.com/0xnof

My 2060 at idle is noisy and I'm wondering for those of you that own one if you're having the same issue (I know many bought it after the price drop to $300).

The thing is this isn't even a smooth type of noise but has a small pulsating rattle to it. Almost sounds like crickets.

Should I return the card? I'm trying to differentiate whether this is a normal sound for this card or something is wrong with mine. Thanks in advance!

    Gigabytes motherboard loop problem!!!

    Posted: 27 Jan 2020 01:39 PM PST

I have a B450M motherboard and just finished my first pc. I am 100% sure i got all of the correct parts for it. However, my problem is every time I boot up my PC the Gigabyte Bios appears and I use the optimized settings and click save & exit. After that, the PC restarts and opens the Bios again no matter what setting I use. How do I fix this?

New Build Review - The Finalé

    Posted: 27 Jan 2020 01:28 PM PST

    Hi all,

I posted a little while back and have finally got round to a build I'm satisfied with. It's about as far as I want to go cost wise. Let me know any tips/thoughts about the build.

    https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/Nzn7p8

I went with 3200mhz ram as I heard that they get the most out of AMD CPUs. I was also thinking about getting a new cooler for the CPU but figured I would upgrade that later when I get round to overclocking (as and when I needed to). Cheers in advance!

Monitor help; second build and don't know what to buy.

    Posted: 27 Jan 2020 01:15 PM PST

Hello there! So I recently completed my second build ever and have been using my old monitor from a previous build; it's a 2013 BenQ GW2255. I understand this is really outdated and it seems I should really be taking advantage of Freesync, however I want to find the right monitor to buy. I'm looking for something under $200, and had my eyes on this AOC.

    Here's my build, for reference:

About to pull the trigger on a 2080 Super... any reason I should wait? Any upcoming releases?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2020 11:01 AM PST

Mostly looking at PassMark benchmarks to determine what card I want.

The 2080 Super seems to be at the edge of my price range. The Ti would be nice (currently have a 980 Ti), but 60% higher price ($400) for 5% gain in performance, I just can't justify it.

My question is... is there any reason I should hold off? Are there any upcoming Nvidia releases that might shake things up? I think mostly I am doing this upgrade to upgrade from 1080p 60 Hz into the 1440p 144 Hz space. I'm hoping the 2080 Super will continue to hold its own when Star Citizen comes out (100+ FPS), but who knows.

Also, for the Radeon series... I love that AMD is getting back into the game, but I have a hard time trusting that their going to shake things up as much as they did in the CPU market. (currently sporting a Ryzen 9 3900X, btw)

UPDATE: I've decided to JUST DO IT and get a 2080 Super. What about monitors though? Looking towards a 32" (or 31.5") curved 144Hz monitor, VA or IPS, G-Sync or G-Sync compatible, and no ghosting or backlight bleed. So far my search results seem to point to a Acer Predator, but this monitor is almost 2 years old. Are there any monitor recommendations in this space?

    Processor or Graphics Card?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2020 01:10 PM PST

So Christmas and my Birthday just passed, so I got a lot of spare money right now. My current setup is as follows:

    • GTX 1050 Ti
    • i5 6500
    • 16 GB RAM
    • 1440p 60Hz Monitor

I assume those are the important bits for this discussion, but if anyone needs to know anything else than I will gladly provide information. Anyways, I want to play Red Dead Redemption Two at 1440p as best as I can, and a handful of other less graphically intense games. What should I upgrade? I assume my RAM is more than sufficient. However, I have heard that higher resolutions may call for a CPU and/or GPU upgrade, an maybe even both. Would any of you have an idea as to what should be upgraded first?

Edit: If you have any suggestions as to what you think should go first, what should I upgrade to?

    Upgrading my old PC

    Posted: 27 Jan 2020 08:09 AM PST

    Build Help/Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)

    Yes!

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

The most demanding use is gaming (Overwatch, CS:GO, Dota). Also uni work, twitch, general browsing, etc.

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

I am aiming for constant 60fps in Overwatch and CS on medium settings. This will probably let me play Dota without stuttering on medium settings. I don't aim to play the newest games, I just want to enjoy Dota, CS and Overwatch more.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

I am a student, hence money is a problem. I would say 200-300€, possibly a bit more.

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

    Germany/Netherlands

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Consider formatting your parts list. Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

I will list my current setup, I know it is old. My question is: Is there any upgrade I can make or should I wait and save money for a completely new PC?

    CPU: Intel Core i7 2600 @ 3.40GHz

Mobo: Dell Inc. 06D7TR (CPU 1)

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 (Barely fits in the case)

    RAM: 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)

Storage: 931GB Western Digital WDC WD10EALX-759BA1 (SATA )

I guess graphics card is the main problem, but would I need a new motherboard as well? I do not know much about building a PC, so I would appreciate some help! Thanks!

256 GB m.2 drive taken from laptop only shows up as 14.4 GB, even in BIOS

    Posted: 27 Jan 2020 10:44 AM PST

I swapped out an m.2 drive in my parents laptop, and wanted to use the original one in my rig. It was brand new, and was able to boot to windows and display as the correct size on the laptop. However, in my rig, it only appears as 14.4 GB. I tried looking in the BIOS for some setting I might've had wrong, but nothing worked. I tried to use my BIOS secure erase on it, but it kept failing. It's an Intel OEM drive, and my motherboard is a b450 Tomahawk. Is this because it was an OEM part? Do I need to use a utility to nuke it? If so, which utility?

Edit: Turns out the removed m.2 drive was a 16GB Intel Optane H10 with 256 GB SSD. Looks like I won't be getting to use it, since I have an AMD board

3950x build with Noctua DH15.. worried it will not fit and have problems with ram/mobo layout/case

    Posted: 27 Jan 2020 12:56 PM PST

I want to get the 3950x and put a Noctua DH15 in there

    Case: Fraktal Define R6

RAM: Gskill F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC (all 4 slots used)

    Mobo: Aorus Pro (no wifi)

Given this combo: Will I have problems? Will the massive heatsink block stuff from the mobo? (PCI lanes, nvme...??)

Will it not fit with the 2 fans due ram being too tall?

I've heard you can move the fan that collides with the ram so you can raise it a bit and make it sit on top. However, doesn't it make it look goofy? I mean i've seen pics and the fan looks like it moved out of place or something. Anyway, im not even going to have a window on the R6 case because I hate lights when im watchin a movie, but still. Wouldn't it even make the refrigeration less efficient since the fan would be out of place?

Just let me know what im looking at here because im confused. I havent built a PC in 10 years.

Need advice: Budget Build Vs Current PC Refresh

    Posted: 27 Jan 2020 12:51 PM PST

Months back I started accumulating parts for a new build. Financial situation has changed but I am still sitting on some parts and I am unsure what to do. I am looking to spend 700$ to either finish my new PC or refresh my current setup. Initially I wanted to do a full on RTX build and I simply do not have the funds to complete it for some time.

    Current PC (2015 Build):

    • AMD FX-9590
    • AsRock 990FX Extreme9
    • 16 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3
    • EVGA GTX 970 SC 4 GB
    • 850 Bronze PSU (Cannot remember brand currently)
    • 500 GB Samsung SSD
    • 1TB WD Data Drive
    • NZXT Phantom Case

    Parts Accumulated for next build:

    • ASUS Prime Z370-A Motherboard
    • Corsair 850W Platinum PSU
    • Thermaltake 360 Water 2.0 Cooler
    • Lian Li PC 011 case.

I also have some other NIB water coolers and enough case fans to be covered on all cooling needs.

What would you recommend I do if I had $700 to finish either the new build or refresh my old PC to hold me over until I can do a higher budget build. I still need a CPU and a GPU which would eat up most of my budget so I am torn. I really only play Dota nowadays so I am not concerned with having a Next Gen capable PC at the moment. I have been running into some stability issues and I think my 970 is on the way out.
