Mainstream Graphics Meta Review: GTX 1650 SUPER vs. RX 5500 XT 4GB vs. RX 5500 XT 8GB Posted: 21 Dec 2019 08:26 PM PST - based on the launch reviews for the AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT (which includes as well benchmarks for the GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER)
- only Full HD (1080p) performance, appr. 1550 benchmarks from 15 sources compiled
- many factory overclocked models were used, though their performance effect is usually small (mostly just 1-3% difference vs. reference clocks)
- all benchmarks with factory overclocked cards were normalized for the performance index
- the performance index ("average FullHD Performance") is weighted in favor of reviews with higher number of benchmarks and use of cards on reference clocks
- the power consumption values are related to the pure graphics cards, 7-10 values from different sources for each card
- U.S. retail prices from Newegg on December 21 for immediately available models
- Germany retail prices from Geizhals on December 21 for immediately available models

- the Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB is on par with the Radeon RX 590 (marginal difference of -0.4%), but the newer card cost $20 more
- the Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB is slightly slower than the GeForce GTX 1660, who is +7.5% faster for the same retail price
- so the two new Radeon RX 5500 XT cards mainly have a problem with their pricing: $20 less - then they become competitive
- it's a surprisingly big performance difference between the two Radeon RX 5500 XT cards (-7.6% or +8,2%), which is a result of too less memory on the Radeon RX 5500 XT 4GB in some case detailed here
- it's more surprisingly, if you see the GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER and as well AMD's own Radeon RX 570 4GB not have the same problems under the same games & benchmarks
- so, the GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER beats the Radeon RX 5500 XT (4GB), but as well the Radeon RX 5500 XT (8GB) beats the GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER
- the case of the Radeon RX 5500 XT 4GB should be more investigated, because it's possible just a memory management bug inside the Navi drivers

What are the things that prevent SMT/HT from being toggleable without a reboot? Posted: 21 Dec 2019 05:25 PM PST Some workloads (primarily games) run slower with SMT enabled. To toggle SMT/HT on or off you have to reboot your PC. What are the reasons that prevent us from making it switchable on runtime to optimize the performance? submitted by /u/AdmiralMyxtaR [link] [comments] |
