There's a rumor about WD cheaping out SN550 secretly

The rumor says that Western Digital essentially 'downgraded' SN550 by replacing flash memories with cheaper ones.

What this means is, after SLC cache space is exhausted, the write speed gets considerably slower on 'newer' SN550 products - almost on par with SN350. Customers wouldn't notice the difference until they actually check out write speed.

But I'm not so certain to take this info at face value yet, as this article is from a random chinese website. Also I haven't found a single article mentioning about this scam in other places.

Does anyone know whether this rumor is true?
