Is Ryzen 3 2200g with GeForce GTX 1650 super a good combo?

    Posted: 24 May 2021 04:30 AM PDT

Im trying to upgrade my pc since it had some troubles with bottlenecking and some frame drops, I bought this pre-made pc 4 months ago that has this AMD Athlon 200GE with Raedon vega 8 graphics card which was suppose to be a athlon 3000G (got scammed there abit). The other components were actually the real things excluding the cpu and gpu itself. I mostly wanna play Escape from Tarkov and Warzone which the rig cant run with a pretty bad cpu and gpu.

My friend agreed on helping me upgrading it and deciding on what cpu and gpu combo to choose from and he suggested the 1650 super and the ryzen 3 2200g, the motherboard was actually compatible for this combo (Asrock A320m), with a 700W PSU and two sticks of 8gb DDR4 RAM.

I live in the Philippines and parts are kinda relatively cheap here in USD standard money. Our budget is maybe like 300+ dollars-ish (17k-18k pesos here) , we are still not sure if this is a good setup since I have no idea of some good cpu and gpu combinations. Would appreciate any tips and opinions.

PC has serious ram issue? need help

    Posted: 24 May 2021 07:45 AM PDT

I built a pc around half a year ago, see: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JPpxL2

Everything was going well until a few months in when I started to get blue screens, at first I thought the issue was drivers, I got many blue screen codes including page_fault_in_nonpaged_area and driver_irql_not_less_or_equal I reinstalled drivers for days until I researched ram corruption, I did an in depth test of my ram and found that the program detected two of my ram sticks (4x8gb sticks in pc) were "corrupted". I removed those two running on 16gb and the pc was running fine for months.

Only a week ago, I got another blue screen and it spooked me enough to just replace all the ram in my pc, I replaced my existing ram for 2x16gb sticks of "Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 3600MHz 16gbx2" what I found is that i was getting yellow and red lights when placing it in specific slots, but when I placed them next to each other in the middle two slots, I got a green light and the pc turned on, so me and my friend decided that the issue was the other slots, and so I decided to live with the 32gb in the two middle slots.

Now today, the computer is glitching, running very slow, and getting blue screens all the time. I can barely work with it anymore. Are all my ram slots broken? anyone knows what's going on?

Yes, your ryzen 5000 temps are normal. They are designed to boost to 80+ degrees, this is intended and nothing is wrong.

    Posted: 24 May 2021 01:10 PM PDT

This article explains it well. Maybe also look at the reddit post linked in the article

They are designed to boost hot to squeeze out every last drop of performance. Unless you're at 100+ and throttling, its fine. 80's and 90's are fine

The user asked Hallock if "we have to change our understanding of what is 'good' and 'desirable' when it comes to CPU temps for Zen 3." In short, the answer is yes, sort of. But Hallock provided a longer answer, explaining that 90C is normal a Ryzen 9 5950X (16C/32T, up to 4.9GHz), Ryzen 9 5900X (12C/24T, up to 4.8GHz), and Ryzen 7 5800X (8C/16T, up to 4.7GHz) at full load, and 95C is normal for the Ryzen 5 5600X (6C/12T, up to 4.6GHz) when spinning its wheels as fast as they will go.

"Yes. I want to be clear with everyone that AMD views temps up to 90C (5800X/5900X/5950X) and 95C (5600X) as typical and by design for full load conditions. Having a higher maximum temperature supported by the silicon and firmware allows the CPU to pursue higher and longer boost performance before the algorithm pulls back for thermal reasons," Hallock said.

Is the Ryzen 5 3600 and GTX 1070 a good combo?

    Posted: 24 May 2021 07:32 AM PDT

I was originally planning on buying a 5600x but they're too expensive and graphics cards are hard to come by right now. I found a GTX 1070 that I'll probably be ordering in a few days to use as a substitute gpu and want to know if they will work well together. I was going to get a 3060 but they're $400 right now.

Year long build woes, games crashing after 20 mins, any ideas?

    Posted: 24 May 2021 03:42 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I built my desktop around a year ago with all new parts, and I've struggled to get it working for me since.

I'll get maybe up to 30 mins of game time before the game crashes to the desktop without any errors messages or warning. This is without any overclocking at all. I've tried installing on my different drives, the same game in different launchers.

In the year I've been trying I've acquired a new set of ram and a new motherboard, and yet the problem has carried across. With Covid, my time has been limited, so after the first 6 months of disappointing troubleshooting I benched the gaming aspect and have been using it for work, where it hasn't so much as sneezed

    Heres my parts:

    BSOD during Bios update

    Posted: 24 May 2021 06:51 AM PDT

Gigabyte x470 aorus ultra gaming – no flashback capability

Took a chance updating the bio in windows. Did it many times before with no issues, not lucky this time.

No post now. Tired the many things I found online to trigger the dual bios to kick in.

Holding power button so it turns off immediately – tried more than once, nothing.

Tried to hold rest and power for at least 10 seconds – tried more than once, nothing.

Tried to short pins on main bios chip (pins 1 and 6 from what I found searching) while power off (still plugged into wall, turning it on while pins where connected, did not try with power off and unplugged from the wall) – nothing

**I tried with needle nose tweezers first and then also with one paper clip (tried one then tried the other, not both at the same time), both ends/tip touching pins 1 and 6 at the same time, as carefully as I could. I did however hold the tweezers and paper clip with bare hands…is this why it didn't work?

Reset CMOS with taking out battery and by shorting out clear CMOS pins (with screw driver)-manual says with power off and unplugged from wall, nothing

I heard of others desoldering the backup bios and putting it on the main bios chip…but that may prove difficult for the average person like me.

Is the motherboard a goner? Any other ideas?

Computer only boots with 1 stick of RAM

    Posted: 24 May 2021 05:28 AM PDT

    [SOLVED]

Problem: PC boot cycles when more than 2 sticks of ram are installed. Also I have a long post beep signifying that it's a memory issue.

    Parts:

    • CPU - Ryzen 5 3600
    • Mobo - Gigabyte b550 Gaming X v2
    • GPU - MSI GTX 1660 ti
    • RAM - G.SKILL trident z RGB
    • PSU - EVGA GQ 650W

    Solutions that didn't work:

    1. New RAM sticks (installed in dual channel mode)
    2. New motherboard
    3. Reseating the CPU
    4. Loosening and tightening heatsink
    5. Installing one RAM, setting XMP profile, shutting down, installing second RAM
    6. Increasing voltage to RAM
    7. Updating BIOS

    Solutions that do work:

    1. Booting PC with one stick of RAM

Could it really be my CPU? I reseated it multiple times and checked the pins. I don't see any bent pins or any thermal paste on the pins. I was very thorough with the check.

edit: Idle temps are 40 C for CPU and GPU

edit2: currently running ram in slots 1&2 and no issues yet.. will update if i encounter any

edit3: computer can only run using either channel a or channel b. will replace cpu to see if it will fix the problem

edit4: new cpu solved the problem. thanks for the help everyone

    Is Minecraft really that intensive?

    Posted: 24 May 2021 07:36 AM PDT

I'm currently running a non-OC 3070 FE, a Ryzen 5600x, and 32gb of 3200/16 RAM. For some reason when playing Minecraft Bedrock with my daughter using the Full of Life texture pack, I'm still getting lag (albeit infrequently). I have a 12 chunk render distance which I think is the max in Bedrock, but I know friends who play in Java and set their render distance much further. Do I need to tweak something to get better performance, or is Minecraft Bedrock truly enough to cause my pc to struggle occasionally?

ROG STRIX Z590-F MOBO argb problem

    Posted: 24 May 2021 06:31 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

i need help with the Z590. Basically this mobo has 3 differents argb ports.

The problem is that i have the 2 front fans connected on the first argb port (ADD_GEN2_1) and i have a led strip and an rgb gpu stand connected on another argb port (ADD_GEN3_3) for convenience, but when i try to manage the colour scheme on the Armory Crate software or the Aura Creator, i can see only one argb header almost like all the devices where daisy-chained all togheter.

There is something can i do for manage at least the fans and the other devices separately?

    Why i5 isn't "bad" for a high-end gaming rig

    Posted: 24 May 2021 01:56 PM PDT

A couple of days ago I posted some pics of my new 3080 build with the parts list, which featured an 11600K. The most popular comment by far was "heh 11600K is what he paid for the build" but in close second place was something to the effect of "what a retard, why the heck did you use an i5 with a 3080?"

Let me start by saying that I know (or at least hope) that most of you on this sub are well aware of the distinctions between different CPU classes, and don't need an explanation on this. But to the few who(m)? it may concern, I figured I'd make a post addressing this since it seems to come up a good bit.

As a side note, I'm using Intel CPUs for example, but the same differences apply more or less to Ryzen 5 and whatnot, since Ryzen and Intel CPUs mirror each other (for example, the 11600K could be considered the 5600X's Intel counterpart).

Let's start by comparing an i5 to an i7. Only same-generation comparisons will really be meaningful, so for the sake of example let's compare an i5-11600K and an i7-11700K.

    The 11600K's important specs are:

    Cores/threads: 6/12

    Base/boost clock: 3.9/4.9 GHz

    Whereas the 11700K's specs are:

    Cores/threads: 8/16

    Base/boost clock: 3.6/5 GHz

These metrics have, by far, the most influence on a CPU's performance.

As you can see, the 11700K has a higher core count (8 to the 11600K's 6), which allows for greater processing power. However, this is only relevant in tasks that utilize all cores.

So say I'm running a program that uses only two cores. Whether it's the 11600K or 11700K, the performance will be virtually identical, since the only major difference is clock speed (and assuming turbo boost is engaged that's a roughly 2% difference between 4.9 and 5 GHz, which is pretty negligible).

If this was the only program I ever ran, it would cost me $131 more to buy an 11700K versus an 11600K, for a 2% boost in performance. To say the least, that's pretty bad economics.

Now let's look at the 11900K, the pinnacle of 11th-gen Intel performance.

    Cores/threads: 8/16

    Base/boost clock: 3.5/5.3 GHz

So the 11900K actually has the same core and thread count as 11700K, but it compensates with slightly higher clock speeds, giving it a higher effective computing power than the 11700K (albeit not all that much higher).

With its turbo boost clock of 5.3 GHz, the 11900K is roughly 8% faster than the 11600K with its respective boost of 4.9 GHz. That's almost 10%. Pretty decent, right?

Wait, no. The 11900K costs $550 on Amazon to the 11600K's $259. So an 112% increase in cost for an 8% increase in performance in this hypothetical program using 2 cores.

So for tasks that utilize 6 or less cores, the 11600K should perform within 10% of the 11900K, at a far cheaper price.

One of the most common tasks people require of their CPU is running games. The vast, vast majority of games depend very heavily on single-core performance and don't utilize all cores. Because of this most games see no benefit from extra cores, so an 11700K or 11900K over an 11600K would only offer the marginal benefit seen due to slightly higher turbo clocks.

One other consideration: At higher settings or resolutions the GPU is almost always the bottleneck. And even for those people who run low/competitive settings and 1080p to get the highest frames possible, an 11400 or 11600K can easily push 240FPS in most titles. Heck, even an i3-10100 is good for 240 frames in a good bit of titles and 144FPS in almost all.

All that to say, i5 has very little to do with gaming performance. Less cores means it's a lot less competent for video editing and the like, but a lot of folks don't care a thing about that.

If you're going to be running a lot of multicore programs like that, go for an R7/i7 or R9/i9, by all means. But understand that there's a reason people say the 5600X and 11600K are the best gaming processors. They offer performance to within a tiny fraction of their more expensive counterparts, and they cost a heck of a lot less.

So please, next time before you knock somebody for "wasting a 3080" on an i5, remember that the 11600K (or 3600X or 5600X) is stellar and cranks nearly as high frames as any for a great cost. If you're still here, thanks for listening to my spiel. I'd love to hear yall's thoughts.

Building Entry PC for GF (UK)

    Posted: 24 May 2021 02:31 PM PDT

    Hey!

I'm just looking for some advice on building a PC, a few things have changed in regards to AMD/Intel and what's best for budget, so here's some reference.

Looking to get it on finance for around £50 a month, for a maximum of 24 months. 1080p 144hz gaming if possible, some light editing etc. A PC Part picker list would be appreciated, and parts maybe supplied by a company such as PC Specialist. I have experience putting together a PC, so we'll be fine in that sense.

    Dead GPU?

    Posted: 23 May 2021 04:59 PM PDT

So I went to watch some Netflix on my PC (Only built less than a month ago) I stuck my 1060 in as a stop gap until prices dropped on the newer cards. Went to load Netflix, screen went blank and came up with "we are adjusting the picture quality so that you can experience a better UHD screen" then screen went green and now struggles. Keyboard now won't light up, PC fans remain white rather than going to their usual rainbows, my screen shows no signal at all from GPU. This is my first build and idk how to fix this. UPDATE So I had an idea last night. I set my old monitor up and tried connecting to that. Works flawless. I then realised the error message was actually the TV rather than the PC itself. The PC tries to adjust the settings and causes the GPU to crash out.

Front panel connector problems (First Build)

    Posted: 24 May 2021 01:40 PM PDT

This is my first build and I have reached the front panel connector part.

I am using the H510 case by NZXT and it uses a "breakout cable" https://imgur.com/HBvtIKk for the front panel connectors (its the illustration to the right). The problem is that the two cables will not connect all the way when I try to push them together. Is it necessary for them to go all the way in? Is it fine if there is a bit of space? I do not want to apply greater force on the cables before knowing how far they should roughly go, since they seem quite delicate.

I would appreciate it if anyone could clarify this for me, since I am unable to find any information regarding this problem. I have supplied pictures from the manual and of the two connectors https://imgur.com/eRsPs2P (of course they are not connected in the picture, and also in the manual it doesn't say how far they need to go in).

RGB on after shutting off my PC

    Posted: 24 May 2021 12:45 PM PDT

Hello! This is my first post ever on Reddit. I built a PC earlier this year using an MSI B550 MPG GAMING CARBON WIFI AM4 motherboard, 5600x, a Masterliquid Ml240l Argb and a handful of argb fans. Yesterday I upgraded my case and moved everything to the new case. Everything is working fine, I can modify the rgb patterns and colors by software. However, when I turn off my PC, the pump and radiator fans remain faintly lit red, green or blue, flickering. If I switch off the PSU and press the power button, the lights eventually go off and remain off after switching the PSU back on.

The rest of my argb components are connected to a hub and do not remain lit.

These three components are daisy-chained to one argb connector in the MB.

Before moving my pc into the new case, everything was turning off at the same time.

I fear this might be a MB issue since the factors are the MB and the daisy-chain cable, I think. And I'm not sure what troubleshooting steps I should follow.

    Thanks for your help!

Prepare for trouble and make it double

    Posted: 24 May 2021 11:07 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

Long time lurker, finally got my build(s) completed! I've been waiting so long. To add a bit of history.

My last fully desktop was back in 2011 that was slowly upgraded over time. The finally product rocked a 1090T, 32gig DDR3 ram, and a Sapphire Vapor-X R9 280X Tri-X OC. Aside from that both me and my GF have dell laptops that had low end dedicated graphics card that we would game on.

Well since Covid hit it, we started gaming more and both our laptops could not handle intensive games. We loved playing Apex and she is interested in streaming. So I decided to piece together our builds. I stuck with being an AMD fan boy while she liked intel. We even got matching cases but in opposite color.

Also I cannot thank my friend enough for sourcing 2 3080s to complete our build.

    Her PCpartpicker + PIC

    My PCpartpicker + PIC

I learned quite a bit building her system as it was my first time with intel and an AIO. The Lian Li case is wonderful with so much space for cable management. Things changed so much compared with a decade ago.
