    Reason for Selling

    Although I loved gaming, I couldn't afford any powerful consoles or PCs until recently; I spent my childhood on a broken N64 and a fake Wii that I saved up for.

    This past year, I got a job with enough pay to save up for building my dream PC. During this saving period, some company put flyers in my neighborhood announcing that they will be coming around to pick up broken electronics for free recycling. Since people were just throwing away their broken electronics, I went by some curbs to see what I can scavenge.

    Through cleaning scavenged parts with 90% isopropyl alcohol and compressed air and replacing broken cables and dead/poor quality parts, I ended up with the build that this post is about. The build turned out to be a pretty decent starter gaming PC.

    However, now that I have built my dream PC (AKA finally got a CPU and GPU after months without stock), I no longer need nor have the space for this starter PC. Therefore, I think that this starter PC could bring that joy I missed during childhood to someone else without breaking the bank. Additionally, since the cybersecurity industry can be difficult to get into, I wanted to contribute to lowering some barriers to entry, hence the goal of donating the proceeds to WiCys.

    Happy Monday. My VFIO build went slightly awry so I've decided to clean house and start fresh on X299.

    1. Asus X99-WS/IPMI

    This motherboard is somewhat of a hot commodity right now because it has five full-length PCIe 3.0 slots and therefore can run up to five of a certain GPU model at x8 each—bypassing mining limits—when paired with a 40-lane CPU (such as an i7-5930K or compatible Xeon).

    PLEASE READ:

    • The DIMM slots for the "C" and "D" channels will not take ECC RDIMMs, but they take non-ECC UDIMMs just fine. I did not test ECC UDIMMs. (Probably not an issue if you're mining.)
    • I attached a fan to the VRM heatsink at one point and some of the fins are blemished.
    • I never got the iKVM/IPMI features to work properly; I think the BMC firmware is bricked. The VGA output still works fine.

    I don't have most of the original accessories, but I'll include a serial/VGA bracket, the VRM heatsink fan, the original I/O shield, a printed copy of the manual, and a cheap 256GB M.2 NVMe SSD from Microcenter. Oh, and I replaced the coin battery with a fresh one. $300 shipped to CONUS via USPS Priority Mail.

    1. Intel Core i7-6950X (SR2PA)

    I had this running at 4.4GHz all-core (1.38Vcore) on the aforementioned board, but uncore/ring was stuck at around 3.4GHz, hampering code compilation performance. If care less about that than I do, it's a great 10-core chip, and it might do even better on a board that supports Turbo Boost Max or whatever it's called. $280 shipped to CONUS via USPS Priority Mail.

    I don't necessarily recommend using this processor and motherboard together, but if you take both I'll knock $50 off the total.

    I got tired of waiting for prices to come down so I bought this from another swapper a couple weeks ago. I had planned to mine on it for a few months to bring down my net out-of-pocket, but it turns out that I dislike mining even more than I thought I would.     Hello hardwareswap,

    For sale is my powerful 15" Lenovo Legion Y740 (Legion Y740-15IRHg) gaming laptop, 144hz/1080p with Gsync, purchased directly from Lenovo.

    I upgraded it with a Samsung 970 EVO NVMe M.2 SSD 1TB (+- 180 USD). Also the memory was upgraded to 16 GB with 2x8 GB Kingston HyperX Impact 16GB 2666MHz DDR4 CL15 (+- 85 USD).

    Laptop works perfectly, It can run any current AAA game at high graphic settings with no problem whatsoever. I even played Cyberpunk 2077 on this beast. All ports are functional and the battery has only 83 cycles.

    The laptop does show some minor wear: light fading where hands rest, scratches on the charger, minor scuff on the hinge for the screen, some dark discoloration on the right side of the screen (can only be seen with screen off). Please see the included pictures. Nothing affects the performance and/or usage of the laptop.

    Reason for selling is that since COVID-19 I barely travel and the laptop is unused.

    For your convenience I also included the laptop sleeve that was used for the laptop.

    So this may be a bit of a stretch for this subreddit, but I work for a domestic violence nonprofit in Utah and we're looking to upgrade the laptop of one of our advocates. Seeing as how we're a non-profit funds are somewhat limited. I've been given a budget of $700 total to try to find the best laptop I can.

    There's some pretty decent deals out there for new laptops, but nothing that's quite checked all of the boxes. I've had some good experiences with personal purchases on this subreddit and am wondering if this might be a good venue for our organization as well.

    I'm ideally looking for a pretty modern laptop that meets the following specs at minimum:

    • i-5/ryzen 5 cpu

    • 8 gb ram

    • 512 gb ssd

    • 13" - 15.6" screen (ideally with a brightness of 300+ nits - we work in a desert environment so a bright screen is pretty important to help deal with the sun)

    • Touchscreen - it goes a long way in terms of working on documentation with a lot of clients

    • USB-C with display port and power delivery capabilities

    • Pretty decent battery life

    Like I said, I'm aware this may be a bit of a stretch for this subreddit, but figured it's worth a shot. I'd be willing to provide proof of my employment up on request, but don't want to publicly post it due to privacy concerns.     I used the 4790k combo for 5 years and upgraded to an x570/3900xt in august of this year. I used the 3900XT until November when I replaced it with a Ryzen 5000 processor.

    I'm flexible on the prices for the 4790k system since I'm really not sure what a fair price for it is. It looks like a 4790K/Asus Z97/16GB combo sold for around $350 a few days ago so that's where I got my starting prices. If I get roasted on the starting prices I'll bring them down.

    Since I'm currently running my TrueNas server on this hardware I would like to sell the 4790K/Z97/16GB Ram as a combo but if there isn't any interest after a week or so I'll part it out.

    Full disclosure if you are looking for a cheap gaming system you should probably buy a lower SKU of something more modern. That being said if you want the top SKU in the 1150 socket this is it.

    Today I have a new batch of CPU Keychains! These were all non-functional but in cosmetically good condition CPUs that have been drilled and sanded by yours truly. They have a 1/4in hole for a keyring, which I can provide on request. All sharp edges have been sanded away. Some of them even still have thermal paste, which I will clean off before I ship them.

    These are various Intel CPUs. They have been grouped by physical appearance (even I don't understand Intel's Xeon naming scheme...). Column 1 is newer Intel Xeons, column 2 is Core 2 Duos, Pentiums, and older Xeons.

    I am asking $12 shipped for one. It will be shipped USPS First Class in a bubble mailer.
