how often do i deep clean my PC?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 07:48 AM PST

I built my PC on christmas of 2020. I've cleaned the dust filters twice periodically, and I can only see a very small bit of dust build up on the floor of the case. Is it time to take the glass off and clean it out? if so, I don't have any specialized vacuum for this, is there any suggestions on how I could do the best job without damaging parts?

To all my canadians that backordered an EVGA XC3 gaming black edition rtx 3070 at CC

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 08:33 AM PST

Please go to your local CC and change your backorder since evga stopped producing the non-ultra models.

I backordered that card and after seeing it was taken down from the site i called CC and they still told me it was okay and not to worry.

I went to my local CC and after verification i was right, evga stopped producing the non-ultra cards. The clerk offered me to switch to a MSI ventus 3x on the spot and i was lucky enough to get my hands on a 3070.

So please my fellow canadians, go switch your backorders if you paid for the xc3 non-ultra card

Why is my TV so good vs my PC monitor? How can I get the same experience on PC?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 07:18 AM PST

    Hello folks,

I recently changed my TV for a better one: https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/tcl-5-series-75-4k-uhd-hdr-qled-roku-os-smart-tv-75s535-ca/14671249

Seeing this much quality made me see that my monitor sucks hard. It's a basic IPS 24 inch 1080P 75hz.

I decided to try and find a monitor that would help me get the "color popping" effect that I get on my new TV and decided to go with a wide-gamut 1080P 24 inch 75Hz to see the difference. I am going to return it, far from what I was hoping for.

My question for you: What makes the color pop so much on the TV vs the monitors? I don't really mind having a monitor / TV that doesn't go to 144Hz, I'm a casual gamer, playing mainly Heroes of the Storm or single player games. Nothing close to E-Sports titles. I would like to have a monitor / TV with the colors as good as my QLED TV. Budget: 400$CAD. Is there a way I can get such a monitor / TV at that price? If not, what kind of monitor would do it and what would be the price?

PS: I would not want to have something too big. 43Inch is pretty much the max I'd go.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Rtx 3070 for Vr or Rtx 3080?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 06:23 AM PST

I'm planning on playing 1440p 144hz on my PC but I recently got a quest 2 and Ive been enjoying it. I feel like its something I'm going to continue to use and would like to enjoy it without much issue in the future. There's isn't much info online about this sort of thing so I'm hoping maybe someone with either card here can tell me their experience with vr using these cards.

CPU never reaches 60°C, even under full load

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 01:58 AM PST

First of all, if this is posted in the wrong place please let me know.

Now, I recently started playing FH4 and often get the message saying "Low CPU bandwidth". Upon further inspection I noticed some things: 1) The temperature never exceeds 59°C. (It's a prebuilt pc but I can't find a cap anywhere) 2) When checking with HWMonitor, Package power is only 25 watts. 3) Clock speed is at 3.3Ghz and 100% use.

After playing FH4 for some time my fps starts to drop to maybe 30-50, when restarting the PC it's back up to 70-90 which is normal for me.

My specs are: i5-7400 (Stock intel cooler), GTX960 2GB, 8GB Ram

Does anyone know what this could be and how to fix this?

PC sometimes does not boot up. What can I do?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 05:42 AM PST

I built my PC around a year ago and sometimes, especially recently, whenever I go to turn it on, it will get power, all the fans and everything turn on but there will be no output to the monitor neither any power to the periferals.

When this happens, the CPU light on my MB lights up. I just restart it a couple of times and then it works fine but it still worries me.

Any ideas of what it could be?

    SPECS: - Ryzen 1600AF - B450 Tomahawk Max - 16 GB GSkill Ram - XFX RX 590 graphics card

    Any ideas would be appreciated!

    How dated is my PC

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 11:33 AM PST

I've been thinking about updating my pc, but I feel I may have to update everything in order to be more with where the tech is going. Currently I have a Radeon rx470 8gb GPU, AMD FX(tm)-6300 CPU, and a motherboard and ram I bought around the same time that I no longer know the info on. How dated is my setup?

Best way to gift a PC yet to be built?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 09:37 AM PST

A friend of mine has been wanting to build a computer, but doesn't have the funds.

I want to give them a PC as an early graduation gift, but am not sure the best way to do it.

I could just pick out each part myself and build it, giving it to them completed system, but then they wouldn't get to build it.

I could just buy all the parts, and then help them assemble it.

I could give them a gift certificate, and let them go to Microcenter and pick it out.

or I could buy some parts, then let them pick out the case they want.

Anyone have any ideas on the best way to handle it? I really don't know if they would prefer Intel or AMD, and to be fair I don't know if it would even matter to them. The hardest part will be finding a graphics card, but I can pull the 1050TI from my UnRaid server unless I can find one elsewhere that isn't outrageously overpriced.

    GT 1030 vs RX 580

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 07:24 AM PST

I built a PC around October (https://imgur.com/a/z4oHqSc), but haven't quite been able to get a graphics card since.

I do have an option to buy a GT 1030 or an RX 580. I'm wondering which one would be good for me? I play Tabletop Simulator mainly, but want to play games like Valheim.

    Computer specs:

    • Intel i7-10700K

    • MSI Z490-A PRO

Questions about switching HDD to SSD

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 01:56 PM PST

I built my first PC two years ago and I currently only have a 2TB HDD which is starting to fail. I want to use all the same parts in my current PC and just switch out the 2TB HDD with one or two SSD's. I already ordered a 1TB SSD (SK Hynix Gold S31) and I was thinking about buying a smaller one to put Windows on.

Would one 1TB SSD be enough for Windows and a few games and other stuff or would it be better to get another smaller SSD for windows? Also since I'm using the same motherboard, will there be anything I have to do once I switch out the HDD for the SSD? Instead of moving everything over I want to install a fresh Windows 10 using a flash drive

    Ryzen 4650g Worth it?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 06:08 AM PST

With the GPU market being as terrible as it is, buying overpriced 1050ti s just isn't a good option. I was planning on a video editing workstation build. With the Ryzen 4650g APU available at the same price as the Ryzen 3600, is it worth it? Or am I better of with a Ryzen 2600 and GT 710 which will cost about the same as the 4650g. I can also save a bit by getting a b450 board in place of b550 for the 2600 rig.

When I stared my PC us before I got my new CPU I used to see my motherboard logo (MSI) however now I don't, it just instantly starts up.

*My Bios is up to date and 5000 series compatible*

Additionally, I can no longer access my bios by pressing the "del" button.

    Does anyone know why ?

First PC build turns on but no display.

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 01:28 PM PST

I managed to build my first PC build by watching a 60 minute long hero video by the god Linus himself and after doing so, my PC would turn on as i can hear the fans running but there is no display on my monitor. Everything is plugged in and I have no idea why im not getting no display. I hope and pray that its not fucked up as I worked my ass off to earn enough money to buy the necessary parts since everything is overpriced asf rn. If anyone is wondering what my build is, its a i5-6500k, 1 240GB SSD, 1 TB HDD, BE QUIET cpu cooler, and 1 single channel 8gb ram stick(I have another one delivering soon) a GTX 1650 SUPER and a 600 bronze watt evga power supply. If anyone could tell me why this doesn't work, i would gladly appreciate it as im desperate for any possible solution right now.

edit: IT WAS THE FUCKING RAM BRUH, shit was not fully placed in. I swear to god man, i thought i legit broke something. God bless you all, IM BOUGHT TO GAME ON!

Upgrading from an Intel i5 7400 to Ryzen 5 3600, is it worth it?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 06:21 AM PST

Hi, I appreciate any help as I've never upgraded my PC before. I currently have an i5 7400, it's struggling and hitting 100% CPU when playing some games. I also stream games, so I usually have my game and OBS running. I was wondering if the Ryzen 5 3600 will be a good upgrade? I don't have a lot of money to splash out on parts (as much as I'd love to) and this seems the best value for money while being a decent upgrade.

Thank you for any help, I appreciate it a lot!

    Budget Build Graphics Card

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 01:20 PM PST

As the title says, this is a budget build and I don't have absurdly high expectations for it. My "gaming" is Old School Runescape, and outside of that I watch Netflix, and do work on Word/Excel. Fairly light stuff but I want the capacity to move up if I ever get around to it. Warzone, or something like that. I'm no competitive gamer, just want to enjoy if/when I do play.

Here's what I've been able to come up with but I'm stumped on a graphics card. Like, absolutely no knowledge of what's good or needed.

I also have this Newegg link for a build with some sort of graphics card but I don't know if it's any good, although the price is attractive.

Laptop won't boot unless it's open. Seems kinda obvious after the fact.

    Posted: 13 Mar 2021 02:51 PM PST

Hey all, I was just installing an ssd in my mom's about 7 year old toshiba satellite. I went to turn it on and nothing. No fan, no lights. I immediately thought I had either damaged the button or the ribbon cable for it... Or worst case scenario a static fry. So half an hour or so later I pretty much had given up and decided to tell my mom I had fucked up and didn't even know what i had done. One last ditch effort I screwed everything back up, flipped the lid open and hit the power button on the side. Boom. Splash screen. So sure enough I test it and the thing won't turn on unless the screen is open. I'm sure it's so it doesn't turn on if it's in your bag or something but holy moly did I waste a lot of time and get pretty stressed! PSA everyone!
