M1 vs AMD and Intel processors on non 2020 Mac - OS optimized software Posted: 04 Dec 2020 09:45 PM PST SHORT VERSION: How does the M1 fare against other CPUs of this generation seen in similarly priced system on software not optimized for its unique architecture? LONG VERSION: I've read that even though the performance of the M1 chip is amazingly good on software made for it, seeing as it has a different architecture than regular AMD and Interl processors, this does not always translate directly to better performance on a lot of programs. Most reports I have seen comparing the M1 with other chips (like the 4700U, 4800U, i7 1165G7, i71185G7) does so using benchmarking tests that have versions optimized for this chip. In these comparisons, the M1 often destroys the competition. However, I'm interested in how the M1 chip compares on non - optimized software with its competition. Most specifically, how it would compare with the 4700U (a popular multi - core beast) in tasks not optimized for it, and real day every day tasks like having a million chrome tabs open at once, music production using software not downloaded from the Apple store, playing games on Steam...etc...on real world tasks, not just benchmarks which have been fine tuned to work well with the chip.
