CPU cores at 100 degrees (Celcius) - Significant drop in performance with PC (everything is laggy, from chrome, microsoft office etc)

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 04:37 AM PDT

Hi, I have an intel i5 4670k. Today my PC has been unbearably slow, even using chrome feels like its struggling. I ran a userbenchmark test and the CPU performed terribly: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/34012703

Using HWMonitor, I found that the CPU cores were all hovering around 100 degrees (C), whats the best possible course of action to fix this?

New build to replace 8-year-old PC! RTX 3080 and i7-10700k

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 03:38 PM PDT

Just wanted to share pics of my first PC build in about 8 years. Also included are pics of my old PC (i5-3570k, GTX 970 that replaced the original GTX 550 Ti).

    The new build:

    • CPU: i7-10700KA (same as the K, included as a bundle with mobo)
    • Mobo: Gigabyte z490 Aorus Elite Pro AC
    • RAM: Crucial Ballistix DDR4 3000 MHz CL 15 2x16GB
    • GPU: Asus TUF RTX 3080
    • SSD: Samsung pm981 256 GB (bought renewed on amazon for $25+tax with just 1 TB written to it!)
    • Case: Lian Li Lancool II Pro Performance (I also bought the ant-sag GPU bracket and the USB-C front panel port)
    • Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S chromax.Black
    • PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 750W
    • Monitor: Lenovo Legion Y27q-20 27" IPS 1440p 165 Hz monitor (same panel as Dell S2716DGR)

Also moved over from my old build:

    • 6 TB HDD
    • 2 TB SSD for games
    • Wifi 6/Bluetooth 5 card
    • 1 Corsair fan for intake below GPU

All in all the new components, including the monitor, were about $2200. I feel like I got good deals and am very happy to finally have a top-end system. Currently enjoying Baldurs Gate 3 and Fall Guys but excited for cyberpunk. Also was very sad to find out Dark Souls 3 and Dark Souls Remastered are locked at 60 fps :(

Next upgrades will be a 2TB NVME drive for games, and then I want to get 3 more 2 TB SATA III SSDs to run in raid 5 with the SSD currently being used for my games, to replace my 6 TB storage drive. May also replace the renewed samsung m.2 drive for my boot drive but honestly it already feels so good I don't think it's necessary.

Troubleshooting: CPU fan keeps going to full RPM until I hit my case with my fist.

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 10:42 AM PDT

My Noctua fan is connected to my Corsair AIO cooler, and through the iCue software I can see that fan 2 is at 1644 RPM even though my temps are really low and the other fan is at a normal speed: https://i.imgur.com/1YxCCKb.png

Then, if I give the top of my case a good whack, the CPU calms down: https://i.imgur.com/OjLWgxj.png

Eventually it will ramp back up again. What could cause this? A short in the fan header? A faulty fan controller? Is the fan itself bad? Any ideas?

    G.Skill Trident RGB Question

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 08:47 AM PDT

I just purchased some G.Skill Trident RGB Ram to replace an older Corsair set that I had. So far it seems the only way to control the RGB is by actively running the G.Skill software or ASUS Aura Sync. When I boot up, the RAM is in a default rainbow pattern until the software is opened and the profile is applied.

Is there a way to set the default color (static white for example), without having to actively run bloatware?

For example, with Corsair using iCue I can set my Ram to be static white and it applies the setting to the Ram itself. So I never have to open icue again. I literally uninstalled it and my Ram is still white.

Is there any way to do this with the G.Skill ram?

UPDATE: Built my first PC, had a lovely few hours and now it won't boot

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 06:22 AM PDT

This is an update to my post from yesterday here: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/j8w2pg/built_my_first_pc_had_a_lovely_few_hours_and_now/

My computer was working great yesterday before my first post but now things have gone from bad to worse. Screenshots

I was completely unable to boot to Windows or even the Windows boot USB, so I created a Ubuntu boot USB which got a lot further than I got with Windows but did not boot in the end either. Oddly, the symptoms were similar to the Windows boot where I got a different error message every time I booted, kernel panics, other odd errors and finally a super bizarre error where there are odd lines on screen and colored line on top - it just looks beyond f***ed. The last error with the weird lines (Ubuntu boot error #4) in screenshots happened when I read that it might be a faulty processor core, so I switched the CPU to "Two cores per processor" in the BIOS since that seemed like the only option to test that out. Obviously didn't work.

I am attaching some photos/screenshots I took of the BIZARRE progression of errors, both on windows AND on Ubuntu and how similar they seem - ending in weird screen artifacts. I uploaded 4 errors for both, but plenty of times for both the boot process just restarted, froze, or crashed with no error shown.

I AM AT A LOSS! I have no idea where to even begin. I don't know if it's the processor, memory, MB, SSD, or some kind of other problem that is similarly out of my depth....

If someone could point me in the right direction it would make my day.

    Parts list: ROG STRIX B550-F GAMING(WI-FI) --- AMD Ryzen 7 3700X processor --- Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 2x16GB 3600 MHz C18 --- Corsair MP600 Force 1TB Gen 4 PCIe x4, NVMe M. 2 SSD --- ASUS GeForce GTX 1650 Super TUF 4GB GDDR6 --- Seasonic FOCUS GX-650

I need to restart my PC every time when i turn it on to get my ethernet to work. Any ideas how to fix?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 11:33 AM PDT

I upgraded my CPU and MoBo recently and everything works except for this one weird quirk. Windows10.

When I turn on the PC it thinks its connected to the internet but it wont actually connect.

When I restart it, it works perfectly fine from then on until I turn the PC off.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Setup Bios Problem for my newly built PC

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 11:28 AM PDT

Hello, I just built my new pc yesterday and everything worked well until I powered it on and the usual "setup or recover bios settings" screen came on and when trying to push F1, F12 or spamming delete to continue, nothing would happen. I already took out my cmos battery and even replaced it hoping it was that but it still gave me the same things. I even used two separate working keyboards and still it wasn't working. Can someone on here help or know what's up.

Since I have not build a pc in that priceclass before I wanted to check if there is anything obvious that I missed.

Also I got the Motherboard already, originally for another build for 74 Euro.

The display was a fun try how it would be to implement something. He's not really useful, due to 3.5inch and 480x320 resolution, but still funny experience.

At least I "could" troubleshoot the PC anywhere.

I built my pc about a year ago, now it won’t turn on

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 10:45 AM PDT

Hey guys, I built my pc around a year ago and today it just died, Does anyone have a link to a good diagnostics video/website? I have done the paperclip test and the power supply is fine. I have tried shorting the powers button and nothing happens. I have checked the motherboard for any obvious signs of damage.

I'm getting no response at all from the system, when connected to the motherboard the power supply fan doesn't even spin.

    I have a:

msi MPG Z390 GAMING EDGE AC

    I7- 9700K

EVGA SUPERNOVA 650 G2 POWER SUPPLY

    RTX 2080

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Is RTX 2060 worth it over 1660 Super?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 02:05 PM PDT

Guys, here's the thing. I'm gonna build a pc (obviously) but I cannot decide. I live in a third world country, so the price difference is quite high. I will be using Ryzen 5 3600, 2x8 3200Mhz RAM, B450M motherboard, 1080p 75Hz monitor.

I won't only play games on it, I will be using Blender a tiny bit. Here's the thing I wonder is DLSS really worth it because I won't be buying a 1440p or 4k monitor.

Quick note: I don't want an AMD GPU, I'm done with AMD gpus lol

Fan and AIO setup in Corsair 570X case.

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 07:21 AM PDT

Hello, I'm about to build my first PC and I would appreciate some help on fan and AIO setup and connection.

The case comes with 3 front 120mm fans and I bought an additional 120mm fan for the rear. From Google searches and watching some JayzTwoCents videos, I think the best approach is to mount the radiator on the upper two front fans with the tubes facing up (radiator | fans | case). As for setup of the fans, I'm thinking the front 3 as intake and the top 2 and rear as exhaust. Is this the best way?

On another hand, this is my first RGB build and I'm not sure how to connect the 6 fans. From what I've gathered, I can connect the six fans to the controllers that come with the case, but my motherboard (Asus Prime X570-Pro) has only 2 fan headers and, therfore, I can only power 2 fans. My question is: should I get the Corsair Commander Pro to easily power and control all the fans or simply Y splitters (the Noctua ones seem quite nice)? In the future I'll get 3x pack of Corsair LL120 RGB fans which come with a Corsair Lighting Node Pro, and I'm not sure if it will require the Commander in order to function. Sorry for the long post but I didn't want to create another post about the RGB.

    Any help is much appreciated.

EDIT: The AIO is Corsair Hydro Series 100i RGB Platinum SE 240mm.

    2060 KO ultra viable/cheaper alternative

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 06:15 AM PDT

Hey everyone, I am currently in the middle of building my pc and the last piece I need is a GPU, I have the 2060 in mind but I want to find a cheaper alternative with the same potential that the 2060 offers. I dont mind spending the 330 (includes shipping) on it but I want to find a different GPU that packs the same punch. Any help can go a long way in helping me out. I have all other parts but I am going to be ordering the GPU within the next few days

Edit: would the GTX 1660 be a good GPU?

Should I add/replace fans or buy a CPU cooler?

    Posted: 11 Oct 2020 10:58 AM PDT

I have a 3300x, Palit GTX 1660 super which is oc. Gskill ripjaws v cl18 3600mhz at 1.3volts, b450m steel legend and a corsair cv650. new 860 evo and an old 500gb seagate. My case is this South East asian case which is cheap so may have been skimping out on some things which I believe on one of them which would be the Chassis fans which somepeople have said so this the high airflow case(https://www.tecware.co/alpham) . My gpu and cpu temps playing overwatch at ultra reaches 70c+ in a airconditioned room set around 18c-20c, I dont know what should I do to help with cooling, If I were to buy new fans, it would be pwm and be intake while my 3 current fans which is believed to be 33CFM be exhaust. If I were to add fans, I would buy maybe 3 and add them as intake and my current intake as exhaust maybe? they are slow fans though. and If I were to buy a cpu cooler would a gammaxx 400 suffice? what should I do to decrease temps? what fans should I buy under 30-40usd? I can only do 1 of them, so what should help decrease my high-average temps? Playing warzone has temps reaching 77c this is my current setup: https://imgur.com/a/3uaRTzV
