Examples of questions suitable for here:

    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a ≤$300 graphics card. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case ≤$50

Does anyone sit in utter fear after pushing the CPU into the socket with the metal bracket? It was dead quiet in here and I *heard* it go "ssshhhccrrrssshh". I know it's normal but...UGH.

    Posted: 27 Jul 2021 09:45 PM PDT

UUGH. The sound of $800 smashing into each other. I can't take it.

I just realized my desktop PC has only one cable between the GPU (3070) and the PSU, is this safe?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2021 07:06 AM PDT

    Hi,

I bought a pre-built PC. I just realized at home (the case has glass window) that the GPU which is a RTX 3070 has only one cable connected from the PSU using daisy chain. That means one cable coming out from the PSU which has 2 ends, and both ends goes inside the GPU.

3070's TDP is 220 W as far as I know. Is this enough this way?

    Thanks in advance.

Edit: My card is not "FE" whatever is that means.

This may sound stupid, but are gaming PC's illegal in CA or something?

    Posted: 27 Jul 2021 06:29 PM PDT

Buddy sent me a screenshot of this tweet saying that CA as well as some other states won't allow you to buy the gaming PC's listed. Going to Alienwares website shows that this is not edited text or photoshopped.

My concern is my PC is specced much higher than the ones listed, yet as a CA resident I was able to buy all the parts I needed no problem. Or so I think? Anyone know anything about this that may be able to explain wtf this is about? Going to CyberPowerPC there is no mention of any of this, neither on BestBuy or any other website I checked that sells more power hungry builds.

PC crashes shortly after launching games

    Posted: 28 Jul 2021 12:04 PM PDT

Hey guys can anyone help me troubleshoot this problem I'm having on my PC? The screen goes black a few minutes after I start into any resource intensive task and crashes my whole PC to a black screen. It's occasionally done this in the past no more frequent than every few weeks, however, I can't play games anymore for longer than a few minutes before the problem occurs. At this point I'm contemplating taking it to someone to get it fixed if i can't find a solution.

    Things I've tried:

    -Reinstalled windows

-monitor temps during stress tests and during gaming (destiny/warzone)

    -cleared bios multiple times

    -reinstalled all my games

    -tried different HDMI cables

-used DDU to uninstall drivers then redownloaded multiple versions.

    SPECS:

    -CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600

    -Motherboard: AB350 PRO 4

    -RAM: 16GB DDR4

    -GPU: RX580 8GB

    -MONITOR: LG MP59G 75hz

    -PSU: 650w sseasonic gx

Need a present for a teenage nephew getting into PCs

    Posted: 28 Jul 2021 11:51 AM PDT

My 13-year old nephew just put together his first gaming rig. I know nothing about them, but he seems pretty stoked. He's got a birthday coming up in a couple of months, and I'd like to get him something that would either help him maintain his equipment (it's the most money he's ever spent), or will help him get more out of it. Any recommendations?

EDIT: Thanks for all the feedback. I should have said that he's sorted out his monitor and peripherals. Cleaning kits is where my brain was headed. You can never have enough canned air.

    Need Build Advice

    Posted: 28 Jul 2021 01:32 PM PDT

Hey everyone. It's been a dream of mine to have an actual gaming setup, and I'll finally be making it a reality. This is the latest build that I've come up with:

    GPU: RTX TUF 3070

    CPU: Intel i5 11600k

    COOLING: NZXT KRAKEN x63

RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 4x8GB

    MOBO: ASUS TUF z490-PLUS

SSD: SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS 1TB

    HDD: SEAGATE BARRACUDA 2TB

    PSU: CORSAIR CX 550M 550W

CASE: Lian-Li O11 Dynamic Mini Black

I'm still having doubts about the PSU, AIO and the amount of RAM. I do a lot of things like programming and 2D and 3D design, and I just believe 16GB to be a little less than I need. I'd love to hear some suggestions about the build.

    Build advice r5 5600x/ rtx 3060ti

    Posted: 28 Jul 2021 06:17 AM PDT

Hey guys so I'm planning this build out for my gf and was wondering if this is a solid build? She's mainly gonna use it for gaming and school work. She's on a budget of around ~$1200 for the pc and monitor. The mobo doesn't have wifi 6 but it has wifi 802.11 (what is the difference between these two?) also I would prefer to get her a 1080p 144hz ips monitor for now but am interested in upgrading to a 1440p monitor in the future for a dual monitor setup. Thanks in advance!

PC will not boot with both sticks of ram

    Posted: 28 Jul 2021 10:59 AM PDT

My pc build is as follows:

    • Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX B450-f gaming ii
    • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600
    • GPU: ASUS tuf GeForce rtx 3060
    • RAM: Corsair Vengeance rgb pro 16gb (8GB x2) DDR4 3000 MHz
    • PSU: Corsair TX850M (850W 80+ gold)

    *Some background: *

Recently I upgraded from a gtx 1070 to a 3060 on my previous Gigabyte B450M DS3H motherboard. The computer worked fine with the 3060 but since the card was so big and blocking some sata ports for my HDD and SSD, I decided to upgrade to the ROG STRIX B450-f gaming II motherboard.

    The problem is as follows:

When I turn on my pc the Q-LED on the motherboard turns on and stays white indicating a VGA problem according to the motherboard manual. I've taken out the graphics card and put it back in multiple times but nothing works. I even thought the graphics card had a sag issue but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Both rams sticks are in the A2 and B2 slots running in dual channel. The computer will only work when I take out one ram stick and boot the computer. But then I'm stuck with 8GB of ram. If I want 16GB, I have to take one stick out, boot, turn it off, plug the other stick back in and boot it again, Then and only then it will work with both ram sticks. But I have to do this every single morning when I wake up as it seems to reset overnight. I've updated my motherboard bios, enabled D.O.C.P (XMP) but nothing seems to solve this issue. Could this be a faulty motherboard? Maybe a compatibility issue with my ram or cpu?

    Origin PC build

    Posted: 28 Jul 2021 10:43 AM PDT

I apologize in advance if these posts are not allowed or frowned upon. I been putting off buying/building a new PC. I feel like I've done a fair amount of research and could build my own but I've decided to bite the bullet and overpay on for a prebuilt.

I've read good and a lot of bad about using these services…I know I'd be getting bent over with the price. I know anything could happen when mailing a complex and fragile machine. I know if something did happen, customer service could be a nightmare to deal with.

Right now I'm leaning towards using OriginPC.

I already have two 1440p 144hz monitors. I will primarily be using this PC for current and upcoming AAA games including FPS,MMOs,BRs, and MS flight simulator. I don't have any plans to stream but would like the capability. I want to be able to have YouTube ,twitch, Netflix on my second monitor while gaming.

I keep going back and forth between amd and intel, 6vs8+cores, air cooled vs AIO. I've read the 10850k can be a good bang for your buck if something like the 5600x core count might not be as future proof for multitasking.

This is a origin pc build I was thinking about pulling the trigger on. The price is $3168 before shipping. Unfortunately upgrading RAM to 32gb @3600mhz is ridiculously expensive or not even an option with some of these companies. I would upgrade the RAM myself. I chose the cooler because of the cpu and because they don't offer the popular air coolers.

That's why I'm considering upgrading the graphics card to a RTX 3060. However, as a PC newbie, I'm not sure if all the parts are compatible and/or if there will be any bottlenecks. I would really like some honest advice on my first ever gaming PC (Pre Built from PCSpecialist)

    Posted: 28 Jul 2021 02:10 PM PDT

I would love some honest opinions on a build I'm considering buying from PCSpecialist. It's a fully configured build where I get to choose the parts but the parts are limited to what I'm given. I was initially going to build a pc myself but I can't wait any longer since my 10 year old laptop is on its last ends and It's also near impossible to near a gpu in stock right now without having to pay a fortune for it so my next best option is a pre built. I was also goig to go with Cyberpower but the mixed reviews has really turned me off the company so I heard PCSpecialist is the next best option. I'm going to list the full specs below and I would love for some advice on it. Also this will be my very first gaming PC and very first desktop PC so I have very little knowledge of PC's apart from some help from a friend. Thank you in advance!

Whats a good quality controller for PC ?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2021 02:05 PM PDT

Preferably one that lasts me a while without suffering stick drift.

I know every controller eventually gets drift eventually but my old PS2 and 360 controller survived years of gaming without showing much signs of it.

Also any opinions on the thrustmaster eswap x pro ?

Ive tried xbox one, series x/s and elite (S2) controller already all suffer drift quickly and or sticky buttons.

my fav controllers in the past have been PS2 and Xbox 360.

    Better upgrade: RAM vs CPU

    Posted: 28 Jul 2021 02:03 PM PDT

I'm running a RTX 3070 FE, ryzen 2600, and ram that is 2400 mhz with 16-16-16 timing. I have an MSI x470 mobo that I could flash to accept a ryzen 5600x. The issue I'm having is serious stuttering at 4K (mainly in SotTR) regardless of the graphics settings. The benchmarks show CPU frame time spikes. I know Ryzen likes fast RAM, so I'm wondering if it would be better to upgrade the RAM to some 3200 or 3600 Mhz or leave the RAM and jump up to the 5600x. Thanks!

    Problem booting

    Posted: 28 Jul 2021 11:51 AM PDT

Built my pc a couple years ago,

    rog strix b450-f gaming mobo

    Ryzen 2700x cpu

    Asus Rtx 3070 gpu

    2 sticks of 8gb 3733mhz hyperx ram

Had 3070 for over 6 months, working fine etc etc Today I went into bios and on the top there was something that said "performance boost" or something like that. I went through options on it "casual computing or gaming/media editing" i selected gaming/media, "default fan, air cooled, water cooled" or something like this, I selected water cooler (have nzxt AIO cooler). Next it said estimated boost "CPU: 12% RAM: 3%" (RAM was set to 2400mhz despite it being 3733mhz, which is why I did this) and confirmation. After confirming and pc restarting as usual after bios, it opened windows home screen for about 3 seconds and then both monitors went black. When trying to boot again it goes orange light (RAM) for a split second, red light (CPU) for a second, orange, red, then white and gets stuck on white. (Apparently VGA)

I've tried old ram sticks, 1 stick only in each slot (with old and current ram), tried unplugging gpu and running, and then plugging back in. No matter what I do it still does the same thing. I'm lost here. Anyone know what I can do to fix?
