Why are regular platforms stuck at dual channel? Posted: 17 Apr 2021 08:05 PM PDT This has always puzzled me... why are the regular consumer platforms stuck at dual channel? At first, I thought that it was so that the regular platforms wouldn't compete with the HEDT platforms, but these days it seems that Intel has dropped HEDT, while the AMD HEDT (which starts at 24 cores) doesn't really compete at all with their regular platform. I understand that quad channel would increase motherboard cost and complexity, but perhaps something like tri-channel would be a good middle ground? LGA-1366, which isn't really too far off from LGA-1200, was tri-channel. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Apr 2021 11:22 AM PDT Suppose Intel decided to recreate the 8086 (or a similarly old chip) on 14nm++++++. Would the relatively small number of transistors mean it could run at extremely high frequencies, and extremely low power? [link] [comments] |
