    Is 200$ for a 2 year old gtx 1080ti a good deal?

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 10:21 PM PDT

My friend is going to buy an rtx card and i asked him if i could buy his old one, he said yes for 200$ it was in his system for 2 years now but he only games on it

Edit: I did not expect this to blow up like it did, i will definetely buy it and build my first pc with it because i was saving up for it anyway

    Getting 60 fps with a 2070 super

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 12:30 AM PDT

Im getting pretty much only 60fps in league uncapped which is somehow less than my 1660super. How can i fix this? I reinstalled the drivers and it didnt seem to work.

edit: the problem was that the "power saver" option was selected haha.

Why exactly was AMD considered bad until Ryzen? (Or, what is AMD doing now to produce a better product?)

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 11:53 PM PDT

So I didn't get into PC gaming until 2015, and everyone at the time told me to go with Intel. They said it was a better investment to go with Intel, as AMD products were "unstable" and while generally cheaper, it was such a drop off in performance compared to lower end Intel CPUs that it wasn't worth it. I generally took this at face value because I didn't know a lot about it and just wanted something that would make games run well within my budget.

A couple of years later, AMD released Ryzen, and that opinion has done a 180. Their Ryzen CPUs consistently offer a good value for their performance on both budget and consumer ends. Intel still edges them out on single core performance, but many argue it isn't enough to justify the higher price point. Either way, no one can dispute that they've really improved since then.

I read that AMD was actually offering 6 and 8 core CPUs years ago, which I found rather surprising.

So that leaves two questions for me. What exactly was AMD doing wrong before Ryzen? And what are they doing right with Ryzen?

    Potential Buyer's Remorse?

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 10:33 PM PDT

My mom and I had chosen out the ryzen 7 2700x as a gift for my birthday, the moment it arrived at my house I immediately felt like I made the wrong decision because, I don't do any video editing nor do I stream. I let myself get too excited about building a pc that I didn't do enough research. Do you think asking my mom if we can return it for a refund and buying the ryzen 5 3600 is a better idea?

1660 Super until the 3000 series come

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 09:19 AM PDT

So, I have all my parts except my gpu and my birthday just passed and I have some extra money. I was thinking if I should get a 1660 super since I wouldn't be using the parts until the 3000 series come.

    RAM Compatibility Question

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 07:39 AM PDT

I know mixing ram sticks is generally a big no no, but that's most of the extent of my knowledge on the matter.

I'm in a weird situation where the memory I used in my build has been discontinued and is ridiculously priced at the moment. Specifically I have the Corsair CMK16GX4M2C3000C16 Vengence LPX ( 2 sticks of 8GB DDR4 3000). Corsair seems to have an upgraded model CMK16GX4M2D3000C16. The timing looks to be different between the 2 from what I can tell, and that's the only difference I saw with a quick search.

The expected big question: can I mix 2 sticks of the newer model with the 2 sticks of the old model I already have in my rig? I would like to bump up to 32 gigs but wanted to make sure before I ordered.

    Thanks!

    Ryzen 5 3600 Stock Cooler

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 01:24 PM PDT

I am going to be building my pc pretty and was wondering if the Ryzen 5 3600 stock cooler is good enough to keep temps at a good level? I also don't plan to overclock anytime soon, if that changes anything.

Also, do I need to get a antistatic wristband when building my rig? I feel like its not needed unless you have a carpet floor, but I could be wrong.

    Scored a 5700XT locally for 200$!

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 09:15 AM PDT

Got my hands on an XFX RX 5700 XT Thicc II Pro for 200 bucks. Currently running a GTX 1070 and was planning on waiting for next gen but couldn't really pass up the deal.

Now I have heard of issues both with the Thicc II and drivers for these cards. Not sure if the "Pro" version fixed the heat issues like the THIC III seemed to have done? Anyways going to be testing it out tonight and looking for advice on the best way transition to the AMD card. Uninstall all NVIDIA drivers and software, run DDU and then install latest AMD drivers I assume?

I ordered a 2600 but I received a 2600x. Should I worry about it? I see some people saying not to buy the 2600x. Should I return it?

    Trouble with Windows Installation

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 12:02 PM PDT

TL;DR: Should my drives be showing up here yet?

Hey, my dudes, I've slowly been making progress on getting my rig built, and I've got it assembled and it boots to the BIOS screen, but I'm having trouble installing Windows.

In the Boot Priority section, I'm only seeing my Windows Boot drive, but when I attempt to install Windows, it gives me an error saying that files are missing. I'm working on making a new boot drive now, but in the meantime, I was wondering if y'all had any suggestions I ought to try first.

I can provide additional information if it'd help, and thanks for your time!

My gpu seems to be defective after less than 2 months of using it

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 11:51 AM PDT

I built my first pc and I soon found a lot of my games crashed repeatedly (Valorant the most but i also play Rust and csgo and they also crash). Ive gotten bsods related to overheated gpu (even altered fan curve to make it sit always below 60 and still got it). I bought it off of amazon (MSI gaming x 1650 super) and its too late to return now because I don't have prime and without prime return time only lasts a month. So i want to utilize the warranty to get another one of this card but this is my first build and I have no idea how to use the warranty or who to talk to and what to submit (im a kid ive never really bought anything with a needed warranty)

    Storage issue

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 01:41 PM PDT

Hey guys, not necessarily a building issue as my build is complete. I recently added a 1tb ssd which my OS is installed on and a few games. I have uninstalled a few big games and installed a few smaller games and I seem to be almost at capacity yet it my head I should have way more.

I'll get to the point of my question, is there an easy way to see big, storage heavy files? I'm sure I should have more storage left than I do and I'd like to go through and see what is clogging up my SSD. I've been through installed apps and nothing there seems to be the cause. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help

With nvidia stopping the production of 20 series, and from the rumours i was able to know that i couldn't get my hands on 30 till next year probably. What are my options as of now? I've a ryzen 7 3700x and no gpu!

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 06:02 AM PDT

I'm ready to wait but I want to know if it's worth waiting for, or else I'll have to go for overpriced 2070 (it's almost sold out too). I'm from India, and is it true that the 30 will take 3 or 4 months to hit the market? Any Indians here who happens to know the market and availability?

Is this memory compatible with the ASUS X570 Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 01:31 PM PDT

I was looking to get this memory:

    CORSAIR Dominator Platinum RGB 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Intel XMP 2.0 Desktop Memory Model CMT64GX4M2C3200C16

for this motherboard: ASUS AMD AM4 ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Hero (Wi-Fi)

However, I can't find any information on whether or not said memory will be compatible with that motherboard. If it helps, the processor is 3950x.

I think the memory was released only a month or two ago, and isn't listed on the motherboard's memory QVL PDF. I also can't find the ram on PCPartPicker (maybe because it's so new?).

This is my first build in many years, and while I would think the ram and motherboard would be compatible, I'm not sure how picky this motherboard/processor is.

    Thanks for any help!
