    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a GTX 1070. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case < $50

    i’m proud of myself

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 12:59 AM PDT

after nearly 2 years of collecting pc parts (2018's black friday) i built my first PC and it's a SUCCESS! i'm so proud i started working on it at like 10:30am and finished it at 8pm (10 damn hours) the worst part was the cable management which is awful but i managed to close the back cover of the case so it's good. it's like a dream come true, hours and hours of researches about PCs really paid off. and let me tell you this, PC building is EASY you just need to know what to do and you will manage to do it (nearly) everything is mentioned in the manuals of the case and motherboard.

my specs: case: nzxt h510 elite/
    cpu: i7 9700K/
    ram: 16GB corsair vengeance RGB/
GPU: evga 2070 super black (cuz i was too broke to buy a 3 fan GPU)/
    storage: 250GB samsung 970evo plus m.2 ssd + WD 4TB Black/
    AIO: nzxt kraken x62.

if you guys have any question let me know!

Two misterious cables are disconnected on my 2080 super

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 03:12 AM PDT

So recently i bought an used dual evo 2080 super and this morning it finally arrived. Then i noticed that two little cables were disconnected.

I found nothing online apart from some vague informations about LEDs and i'm terribly scared to boot up my rig now. Do you guys now what those are for?

EDIT: contacted the seller and apparently he knows nothing about it. On closer inspection the two cables seem to fit into each other perfectly and are related to the fans.

The white one is labeled on the PCB as J10 and probably related to one of the fans. The other one disappears inside the gpu instead.

    The plot thickens.

EDIT v2.0 : After watching this video at mark 9:15 you can see that those cable are supposed to be connected. Thanks guys for your help. I hope one day in the future this thread will be helpful to someone

    Finished My First PC Build

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 08:26 AM PDT

After months of planning and debating on whether or not I should even build a PC. I committed to doing so, some research on parts (and some splurging on other parts) and eventually everything was at my house, ready to put together.

At first I was worried about anything going wrong, but just had to keep going forward. Mistakes left and right from being so nervous that my hands were shaking (may have tapped the mobo with my screwdriver), but in the end it booted up correctly, picked up every component, and Windows installed easily.

This surely was a learning experience (M.2 screws are so tiny holy) but the end result pays off so much.

Newly built PC shocks me whenever I touch it and I'm scared now

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 07:39 AM PDT

Every time I touch any metal part of the case it gave me a vibrational like shock and I don't feel safe. Looked up some solutions online suggests that my PSU might not be grounded properly. I'm hoping that with leaving my PC and PSU off but connected to the wall socket can discharge any excess charge. Is that how it works? Or are there any other methods?

Upgrade from GTX 1080 to 5700XT Sapphire Pulse or wait?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 12:17 PM PDT

Hello! I was wondering if it'd be worth it to upgrade my current GPU (GTX 1080) to a 5700XT Sapphire Pulse (as I read these are the best 5700XT). I just recently upgrade some components of my PC and the only thing I feel is starting to show its age is the GPU. It's getting up there in temps/slight coil whine while the rest of my build sounds smooth. I could probably sell it for $200-250 used and then grab the 5700xt for $400. Should I just wait for the next AMD GPUs? I'm becoming impatient waiting for things to be announced.

Is it worth it to upgrade mobo?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 12:53 PM PDT

    Hi,

I have a PC with these specs:

    • i5 6600K
    • 16GB DDR4 2133MHz
    • H270-PLUS
    • GTX 1060 GB

Is it worth to upgrade motherboard to this setup to achieve some overclocking and faster RAM or is it just a total waste of money?

    My digital journey

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 12:31 PM PDT

Hello all, I've been into computers since I first touched my grandma's old laptop as a three year old. Since then I've taken great joy in learning as much as I can about technology. Over the years I've had a bunch of laptops (some were business HP ones), slow desktops (a few Dell Dimension towers and an Optiplex) but just recently, I finally put together a build with about 60% second hand or reused parts. I'm 20 years old now, and here are the specs of my current rig.

AMD FX 8350 overclocked to 4.5 ghz

    EVGA GTX 1050 ti SC

    Asus m5a78l-m/usb3 mobo

16 GB HyperX RAM 1600 mhz dual channel

Some old NZXT case. I forgot the model.

Thermaltake spd-0600p 600w PSU (got a great deal on this on Amazon)

PNY CS900 240 GB SSD (boot and GTA V benefits from an SSD)

A mix of Western Digital, Seagate, and Toshiba hard drives with 3 TB worth of storage between four drives. I also have a dedicated virtual machine storage drive.

    Some rando LG cd drive

    EDUP wifi bluetooth pcie card

    UpHere cooling tower

6 UpHere 120mm rgb fans and an old blue fan for the top front intake

Windows 10 pro and a spew of other operating systems

I know that this build isn't particularly fast by today's standards, but I'm proud of it. I'm always upgrading it and using it. Anyways, I'd appreciate thoughts on my rig, and advice for a new GPU that won't bottleneck my CPU. Here's an imgur link to my rig photos.

Two more sticks of 4gb, or brand new 2x8gb?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 10:48 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

So as of now I have two sticks of 4gb. Dual channel. Processor is Ryzen 2600.

I decided I need to increase the ram but not sure what to do exactly.

Is it better to buy two more sticks of 4gbs and keep the current ones, or wipe those completely and buy brand new 2x8gb and also make use of the dual channel? The first choice will cost me less.

Air or AIO for Intel i9 10900k

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 10:16 AM PDT

    Hello, guys.

My first post here. So, I'm building my first PC and wondering whether shall I go with Air or AIO for i9 10900k processor.

My picks so far are NOCTUA NH-U14S FAN CPU COOLER or CELSIUS+ S36. Which one should I go for? I won't be playing any games however, I will be doing more virtualization with Routers, Firewalls etc which requires quite a bit of CPU power.

    Edit - I won't overclock the CPU

    Thanks

How should I mount my fans for a waterloop?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 11:31 AM PDT

    Hey r/buildapc,

I've cleaned up my PC a bit, got a new GPU among a few other things. Next up is a waterloop. I've read up on it and have pretty much everything in order. But there is one question I don't have an answer to: How much does the airflow in my case matter for cooling?

My 3 front fans are intake and I have 1 fan in the back thats exhaust and they will stay that way for sure. Both front and top fans will have a radiator mounted to them. My question concerns the 2 top mounted fans. Should they also be intakes or exhausts?

    Imgur for reference /a/VWKpjLK.

All fans run at full speed and light up, but the GPU lights will not turn on, and the monitor is unable to get a signal from the display.

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 01:43 PM PDT

    Hey y'all,

I just completed my first PC build. I finished last night and everything was functioning properly. I installed windows, fixed up disk management, and updated all of the windows updates.

This morning, the computer was still working fine, but I had to finish up a few things, so I unplugged the power supply before continuing to work - I finished cable management in the back of the tower and around the desk. I closed the case and then I plugged in my monitor, a webcam, and an aux cable for the subwoofer.

When I turned the computer back on, however, the monitor display did not turn on and could not be read. All of the fans run at full speed and light up. The GPU fans run full speed as well, but the GEFORCE lights remain off. Also, I cannot turn off the computer from the power button (I've pressed it and held it to no avail) I have to turn it off from the power supply, otherwise, it just keeps running.

I've tried unplugging and replugging the display/power supply/PCL cable, RAM, Sata to the ssd on the motherboard, the m.2, the GPU.

I moved my GPU from the top PCL slot to my second under it, and nothing works. I have no idea what to do next... Please advise!

Help with PSU cables for GPU

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 11:18 AM PDT

Im currently building my first PC but have hit a road block. Im using a 750w EVGA GA power supply with an MSI Gaming X 2070 Super which uses a 8+6 for the power. Do I use two separate 6+2 pin cables to power the GPU or the single 6+2 pin that branches off into another 6+2? Or does it not make a difference which cable(s) I use? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I need help choosing a monitor!

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 01:21 PM PDT

    I want a monitor with these specs 1. 1440p

    1. 144hz+

    2. 5 MS response time or less

    3. VA or IPS or whatever panel as long as it's NOT a TN (I just can't decide between the two! I'm gonna be using this for general use - gaming, homework, and watching anime, YouTube, and other stuff. VA has those good blacks but IPS has the good colors 😓)

    4. 27 - 32 inches @ 16:9

    5. Maybe HDR but IDK if I'll use it

    6. Freesync, Gsync or both

    7. Vesa mountable

    8. Budget is $750 max (USD)

    GeForce RTX 2060 Compatibility?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 11:05 AM PDT

So my brother's birthday is coming up and he really wants the RTX 2060 for Minecraft. The problem is, he has a Dell Optiplex 980, which I've read can reject GPU's. I have a 790, which I would be willing to give him if it came down to that. My question is, can I make it work? I don't think either of the motherboards works with the 2060 but is there anything out there that's cheaper that may work? To convince my parents to do it, we'd probably be looking at less than $450 total, the 2060 is ~$320. Any help would be much appreciated.

    P. S. The prebuilt PCs have the same motherboard, CPU, and RAM, as the original build, mine just has a gtx 1060 in it. Thank you so much in advance.

    Which drive to keep

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 10:54 AM PDT

I just got myself a 1tb nvme ssd to use as my main drive. Right now im using a 500gb samsung sata ssd with windows and few games, a 1tb wd black hdd empty (had an issue i resolved, thats why it is empty and a 2tb wd blue ssd with other games. The 500ssd is going into a laptop, but i want to remove an hdd. The idea i have is to keep the games i use most on the nvme and then keep the other games on an hdd until i get another nvme in the future. I dont know which drive i should keep. The wd blue is slower but bigger, the wd is faster but smaller. What would you do?

What is your opinion on building a pc right now vs waiting for next gen amd and nvidia parts?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 09:19 AM PDT

I only play games recreationally and do not "need" a pc built right now as I can still play games on my low end system to get me by, but is the wait something that most people here would suggest or should I just go buy the parts I want?
